Emma, you could make the handle of your old spade into a dibber rather than just leaving it to waste. Just shorten it and taper off the end, not too sharp, and you've got a dibber. Love the tulips. Oh, a dibber is what your bulb thingie is called😊.
I will never have an allotment , but I still just love watching your videos . I do have a yard garden but I use raised beds, and I def put cardboard on the bottom !
Emma, I have to say, you are a riot. Your bubbly personality brightens the dreary day. Your tours around your plots make me smile and giggle when you forget names or trample on the sweet peas . But at the end of the day, you've made progress on all the things you wanted to get done and your vegetable garden looks great Well done on all your hard work on getting your 2nd plot growable . And your new spring jumper is very cute ☺️
Emma, It is always so much fun to see you. Never a dull moment! Thank you for this video I love your channel and always look forward to the next video. Peace and blessings
Emma, your rasperrys will get to about waist height, so probably won't cover the top of your arch. Also they'll spread like heck under the ground after a couple of seasons, even into areas you don't want them too. You might have to find a companion plant if you want to cover the top of the arch. Love your robin feeding, its like you have some tame budgies.
Raspberries do not need structures to grow up, but can have support to stop the ends of the canes flopping over. They also send out roots from which new raspberry canes come up.
I love your videos! Keep them coming, it’s really nice to see another gardener who is figuring it out as they go along! 🥰 It’s nice to find someone who is as equally excited about spring as I am too 😂
Emma, you are a bit ahead with your weather in the UK than I am here in the eastern USA. It made my heart sing to see your lovely tulips popping out in color. Thank you for giving me garden ideas. I am planting mini pumpkins this year.
Emma I have been watching you since January and you have inspired me so much to just get up and get out there. You are a complete source of inspiration. Even my 4 year old knows we have to pause for Emma's allotment diaries and sits and watches it with me. She loves Einstein and his girlfriend and knows he is your friend ❤
Well said Emma! The amount of tape I found on our allotment when we took it on was crazy! Appreciate they were trying not to dig, but get the plastic off! Great video as always! Great to see your channel growing! 👏
Great video. The pointy stick is called a dibber. It’s for planting and if you put measurements down its side you can use it to measure between plantings.
The raspberry wasn’t dead it had roots and shoots on it also they are autumn raspberries so it looks like it is dead because autumn raspberries grow from the ground up each year so you prune the dead wood done to the ground and then the new shoots come up
I grow my raspberries and BlackBerries over archways...and they're lovely; both visually and very tasty ...give it a go...I am sorry I don't have a photo, as they've been growing there for years I've never thought of taking a photograph of them. I have different varieties of raspberries, both early and autumn fruiting, and my blackberries are the Loch Ness variety; absolutely huge and thornless ...yum ..oh, I've just found out that turnips and raspberries can be grown together as the turnips deter a particular kind of flu...so I've planted 2 trays of turnip seedlings amongst my raspberries... awesome!
Raspberry canes die off each year then new ones grow from the roots so if you trimmed the 'dead' raspberry to the ground it would most likely come back
I have never seen a raspberry that would grow that tall as for an archway... Blackberries you can train up to your archway because they can grow about human height. But no raspberries - they will stay as a maximum up to your waistline.
Stick it back in the ground, you might get some runners from it, it might still survive because it's so wet, probably only completely die if it dries up.
If your raspberries are summer fruiting you will be able to train them up the arch as they can grow at least 6 foot tall .autumn fruiting raspberries only reach 4 or 5 foot tall .with summer fruiting raspberries you cut out last year's cane leaving the new one to grow on but autumn or ever bearing raspberries you prune the whole plant back to the ground ...yours look like summer ones .also the cane you pulled out and disguarded had begun sprouting new shoots from the roots ..try to find it and whack it back in !..and i think Einstein is about to become a father !!..
Gardeners world said there's no harmful chemicals in cardboard apart from what you said and any ink ?/ labels on the cardboard just take off. Of course, it's different in the US
@@trevorwills3356 Not in the UK it wouldn’t with our weather. Also, it would vary depending on what you grow as the roots grow faster on some plants rather than others
Charles Dowding makes new beds using cardboard and sows or plant into the compost on the same dayso you might like to view his channel to see how he does it. 😊
I love you to bits emma but I wish you'd stop showing all the good bits of your short videos at the start it ruins the vid when you know all that happens.
Oh., Emma you are joy to watch. Your personality makes these episodes so special. I love your jumper.

i love the jumper, pink is definitely your colour
Bike shops can be great for large flat sheets of cardboard 👍🏻
The tulips 🌷 🌷🌷 are really stunning.

Worms love cardboard and they help aerate the soil’
Your point stick is called a dibber
I am not sure how to grow tulips, but I got some in a pot, so after the flower died off, I planted the bulbs out. I'm hoping they will grow next year.
Well said Emma! The amount of tape I found on our allotment when we took it on was crazy! Appreciate they were trying not to dig, but get the plastic off! Great video as always! Great to see your channel growing! 👏
I learned the hard way. Plastic strips all over the place. Sound advice x

I bought one raspberry cane about 4 years ago and it has multiplied until I now have about 10.
Head to Halfords for cardboard mate. The bicycle boxes are great. I've had the same card down since Oct and it's only now just starting to decompose.
Hiya Emma, thank you for sharing spring as it’s currently snowing here in Southern Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
The raspberry wasn’t dead it had roots and shoots on it also they are autumn raspberries so it looks like it is dead because autumn raspberries grow from the ground up each year so you prune the dead wood done to the ground and then the new shoots come up
So true... almost crying when Emma pulled him out..
I'm so glad I found your channel 😊 I'm new to gardening, my back garden, not an allotment x
It’s called a Dibble Emma😊
Love the Tulips😊
Looking good in your garden!😊
Emma, if you have a Morrisons suoermarket near you, you can buy Totes ankle wellies... they are super, i just got some to wear on my allotment

Raspberries dont realy get very tall so you could add something else to your arch to add interest? Loving your sping jumper 😊
I have eight raised beds and I put them on some of my lawn in the garden, I always use cardboard at the base of the beds, sorted!
Fantastisch Good work Emmas you the best te moostuin te compost thans te video Top Good weekend ❤🌱🪻🌷👍🧤🌺🌿🌾🍹🫛🫘🐦

Thank you
Both plots looking fab. 😍😍
Lovely tulips Emma :)
Yay!
Please secure the wire to the sweet pea arch with cable ties.
Raspberry’s will need pruning so not suitable for training over an arch. Try a rose or wisteria?
😂 my raspberries and blacurrants go over an archway...very quirky. ❤
It's called a dibber that pointy thing
Fantastisch Good work the moostiun te Compost thans te video Emma's you the best good weekend 👍🌷🍹😅🌱💦🧤👉 Saturday zon ⛅🌿🐦🌾🌺

mix raspberry and rose? clematis?
That "dead" raspberry had new growth from its roots so it was not so dead ...
Stick it back in the ground, you might get some runners from it, it might still survive because it's so wet, probably only completely die if it dries up.
I saw that 2
yep...you are wright @@maryconnell888
I grow my raspberries up my apple tree, it looks like they're on the tree, a raspberry tree😂

No the raspberry plant wasn’t dead. There was growth on the bottom lol
Won’t the cardboard take 4-6 months to rot down though? How would plant roots work through it?

Thankyou Emma, have a wonderful weekend and keep on doing with the allotment your doing fantastic.
Hi Emma cardboard is better in large and why don’t you say anything about your merch anymore I got the tshirt what else you got whack it in brilliant
It’s a dinner.
WARNING EMMA: The problem with your tulip/spinach idea is that tulips are toxic - all parts!
Argh! Didn’t think of that!
Decades ago Tulips were eaten in parts of the world when food was scarce.
That’s right Trevor. The Dutch ate tulip bulbs at the end of WWII.
@@angelasmith8320 I thought but have never tried that tulip bulbs can be eaten. Have to cook them the right way I think.
