It's truly criminal to leave Michael Anthony and that bass and vocals out of the comments. He's a beast and such an integral part of the band's sound. Please don't forget about him. Another amazing live performance comes from the Van Hagar days, I believe it's "There's Only One Way to Rock" live from Tokyo. Also, since you are interested in studio vs live versions, I would like to direct you to Careless Memories official video by Duran Duran and the live version from the concert film, As the Lights Go Down.

Fair Warning showed Van Halen going back to their heavier rock roots after doing some radio friendly albums. This is where Unchained came from. "Mean Street" "Dirty Movies" and "Hear About it Later" are also bangers. Such and under rated album.

This was a great performance. David isn't always known for delivering great or even good vocals live, but this one was pretty good. Nice reaction. I saw them live with Sammy as the lead singer in high school. They were awesome. My friend and I were on the floor right by the stage. When Van Halen came on stage everyone pushed forward and we were getting squished. My friend said, "Come with me if you want to live." Just kidding, he did say follow me and we made our way to the side of the stage. When Eddie did his solo, he did part of it right in front of us.

Back in the day Van halen rocked the stage. Saw them many times with Roth and Sammy. Loved them both. They were called the Mighty Van Halen for a reason! Roth and Sammy both were great frontmen. Alex was a very underated drummer. Mickey was a great bass player but more impresive was his back-up vocals, he was a huge reason why the vocals were so good. And we don't really have to say anything about Mr. Eddie Van Halen do we! He reinvented the guitar, he made the guitar sound like anything but a guitar. That was the genius of Eddie. There will never be another Eddie Van Halen! You will never be forgot. RIP

Off of my favorite Van Halen album although I didn't catch them on this tour. I was able to see them the following tour. For the Diver Down album. And the amazingly successful 1984 which came afterwards. And then caught them again in 2012 on the reunion with DLR. Never caught them with Sammy. Just didn't work out that way. Not that I was avoiding it but I just wasn't cognizant as much when they were touring with Hagar. And I'm not one of these Hagar haters. Although I do prefer the version of Van Halen with the DLR more. I enjoyed the version with Sammy as well. Take care always.

Awesome live version. I have a huge request - few reactors pick up this one ... But if you want to contrast Dave live to Sammy live ... Watch Live Without A Net - Song: 5150 (same concert as your first reaction with Eruption / Guitar Solo). This is one of the deeper tracks on the 5150 album. If you want to learn the studio version first - no need to do a reaction (like Unchained) ... But save the reaction to the live version of 5150 (again, Live Without A Net). The energy of the entire band is incredible - and the solo he does is what pushes it over the edge. It incorporates several of the key styles he uses. You can go straight to the live version w/o familiarizing yourself with the studio version - but you will likely appreciate more with a few listens to the original first. Keep up the great reactions!

This was years before Jump….which really had nothing to do with Dave’s Jumping…DLR is a multi-martial artist…which is why he does those jump splits, roundhouse and crescent kicks…as well as flourishes with the microphone stand.
They were a great live band…and didn’t hold anything back…which made the crowd do the same….which made them go even harder….and so on….it was reciprocal!
