Great informative video and I'm pleased to say I too fish zigs pretty much as you do. A quick question....As an example if you were catching at 18ins below the surface with a black foam zig would a pellet waggler fished at 18ins deep with a black pellet not do the same job? I'm looking forward to the replies on this one.
Hi Ian, I have often joked than zig fishing is a similar presentation to a pellet waggler just up side down 😉 The main differences is that a zig with stay stationary better in windy conditions, plus you can cast much further with a zig. I have seen anglers suspend baits below the surface with Korda interceptor surface floats, but they will drift around on windy days effecting the presentation. Hope this makes sense? Regards Phil
Never fished this method, but very informative Phil, but did something similar years ago, free running lead, lump of bread on the hook & then feed the line out, bread just below the surface. One of our club waters don't allow zig fishing, too many birds being caught. The only thing that concerns me is if the foam comes off, it being digested by the fish.
HI Rich, A suspended lump of bread crust can be very effective 👌 I've never had any problems with the foam coming off. In my opinion carp especially are constantly picking up debris such as twigs, stones etc when feeding on the bottom as soon reject them while feeding. I believe zig fishing with little pieces of foam is completely safe 😊. Regards Phil,
ive tried everything with zig fishing and not had a single fish, ive put all my rods on zigs tried different depths, tried different baits and colour foams and not had a single take, i must be doing somthing wrong but i have no confidence in them, but will still keep trying, I have even tried spodding cloudy bait over the zigs to see if that would attract anything.
You're not alone bud. I'm out at the weekend and I'm already debating trying again. Had 1 session where I got about 6 runs but nothing when I picked the rod up and that is it. Tried lots of hours aswell. Really don't have confidence in them or myself with them but it's obvious it can make a massive difference to your session once you suss it out. We will get there mate 👍
Hi Cameron, Using an adjustable zig will help land more fish as you won't have the long hook link so netting and playing carp will be much easier. I always play carp much more cautiously on zigs and I'm often using smaller hooks (size 10's or 8's) and lighter hook lengths. Regards Phil,

Yes it would and probably hook up more , land more and less tangles.
But it you want fish behind bite alarms and set a bivvi up other rods etc.
I went through all the agg of learning and setting up adjustable zigs. It would have honestly been easier and more fun just to set a shallow float up

Some venues it can be very effective, others not so. It's worth persevering with, as it can be VERY effective! 👌

I lose a lot of fish on zigs any tips for improving land rate I’ve tried bigger hooks.
At what point are you losing the fish?
