I still see can see my Uncle Lynn Harrison asking my older Brother and I if we had learned in school about the Monitor and the Merrimack? We hadn't, but he assured us that in another grade or two we would. He then informed us that our Great Great Grandfather Uri Haskins was involved in the production and mounting of the Merrimack's iron plating. He told us that whenever one of his men would break a drill bit, he would have them start a new bit right on top of the old one and just keep on drilling.
The years rolled on and the words, "his men", made me think that Uri must have been in a position of oversight?
Thanks to a kind historian back in Virginia we learned that Uri was the foreman/superintendent of the rolling mill at Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, that produced the Iron plates for the C.S.S. Virginia.
We just happened to catch Tredegar 's historian there when we visited from California for the very first time a few years ago.
Turned out that he was familiar with Uri Haskins. I informed him that supposedly Uri offered the railroads a patent for an invention, but they refused his offer, and Westinghouse came up with a better one, but I could never find it.
The historian informed me that Uri had gotten twelve patents, and that he would send me a copy of each one!
Family legend says that at some point in time, the confederates wanted him to take a gun and go fight the Yankees.
Since he was a Canadian he told them he had nothing against the Northerners and went and hid in the woods, where his Daughter Debbie would secert food out to him.
Supposedly it began to snow one day so he sought shelter in a log only to discover a bear had chosen it to hibernate in.
What interesting stores await us when the dead are resurrected back to life, and even the sea gives up those dead in it.

Very professional video. Thank you for sharing it. Someone said it was a 1$ fee to walk through, how do they afford to do that? Is it federally funded?

I don't remember now what the fee was for entering the museum now that its been a few years. Im sure they get State and Federal money to some degree but I don't know how much.

The admission price is only $1. The hours are also different.

Hours always change, that why I specifically mentioned they were the summer hours. Thanks for watching.
