You got me by two years but I had the same experience. The only difference is midway through it most of us got rid of the 8-track for the new technology, cassettes in our cars. LOL. I remember distinctly my dad giving me his 68 Barracuda hatchback he painted metallic brown for some odd reason. It had leopard skin interior a completely rebuilt and detailed 340S engine and an 8-track player. Three of the 8-tracks I had then were Foghat live, Kiss Alive 2 and Physical Graffiti. Someone stole the 8-track one night when I went to a rock club to see Twisted Sister before they were famous on Long Island where they are from. LOL. So as soon as I had the money, I replaced the 8-track with a cassette player, power booster EQ and new speakers.

This song is definitely one of their sleeper hits - In 1970, they released LZ III and Atlantic, their record company, wanted them to release the Immigrant Song as a single, LZ didn't like putting out singles and didn't want to use any other songs from LZ III, to use on the single, so they hastily wrote this song as the B-side to the Immigrant Song.

Led Zeppelin was so diverse....love how they incorporated the blues into much of their music. I wish Robert Plant would have stuck to more of his roots in recent years....
One of my favorites!! John Paul Jones on mandolin! Drums, acoustic Jimmy Page, and Robert’s voice! Awesome stuff! They don’t have a bad song! Love it!❤
Only the Mighty Zeppelin could make a track as good as this as a B-side and never release it originally on an album. A throw-away for Zeppelin would be another band's best song.
This single broke the system. Led Zep's manager told the record label no more Led Zep singles. If fans want their music, they must buy the albums. Brilliant move.

One of my favorite Zeppelin songs. Hootie and the Blowfish do an great cover of this song. I had the pleasure of seeing L Z live, five times and Hootie once. On another song you did, that l missed and watched today, 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers'. lt reminds me of something that happened back in the mid to late 1990's, when l was working at The University of Washington Medical Center, in Seattle. In summer months, l usually brought roses to work once a week and put them in the Surgery lounge. One day this attractive Anesthesia resident from Lubbock,Tx. asked who brought in the roses. I told her that l had brought them in.. She said, "You don't bring me flowers!" I told her, "Well, you don't sing me love songs!" Everyone in the lounge chuckled. About a week later, l looked at the schedule and noticed she was going to be working the next day. Before l went to work, l cut a dozen roses from my rose garden, wrapped the cuttings in moist paper towels, so they would stay fresh. Once at work, l put them in a vase and put them in my locker. I kept checking the lounge and when l saw her in there, l retrieved the roses from my locker, came up from behind her, tapped her on the shoulder and when she turned around, l presented her with the roses and said, "There, now you owe me a love song!", to more chuckles. The next day she approached me in the lounge and asked me to stand up. When l did, she put her arms around my shoulders and neck and said "This is so embarrassing!"and started singing me a love song and we started to dance,.Others in the lounge applauded and cheered with approval. I will be darned if l can recall her name, or what song she sang, but l am now 77 and it was too long ago. True story!❤
I highly recommend Led Zep's "Bring It On Home". It's a straight up banger, old school blues vibe but at Zeppelin velocity. Plant's harmonica and bluesy voice in the intro are to die for. Actually the whole song is straight up 🔥 🤘😎🤘 Great reaction, Rob Squad! 🤩
One of my favorite Led Zep songs Lots of their songs have mandolin. Battle of Evermore has mando all the way through. John Paul Jones is a musical genius who can play practically anything.
What I love about the 60/70's sounds is that artists were able to be creative and do what they wanted with their music. A song like this wouldn't make it today because the industry wants contrived, formulaic music simply that sells, but the world misses out on the artists talent and ability and you see this in Zeppelin and many artists/bands from this era. It was great because the talent was there but the limitless sounds they could make with their music. They took liberties, invented new sounds, integrated genre's of music to create ART. Great song!
Back then, We/I had Led Zeppelin on Albums and a Quality Sound System And I liked my Headphones. Turn up the volume and close your eyes and it was like being there with the band.
"...but then he can't help it..." I love that, and despite listening to Zeppelin for over 4 decades, I'd never thought of it that way before, but it's a perfect assessment! Amber's so intuitive! 🤘
It's hard to imagine why Page would leave this song off of Zep III, and not dump 'Hat's off to Roy Harper' instead. Even when Physical Graffiti came out with many previously recorded but unreleased songs - he didn't put it on there either! It didn't even make CODA!
Again, one of the great "Classic Rock Bands" of all time. First time I heard this song was just after realizing a girl I like very much just didn't have the same interests as myself. This is easily my favorite Led Zeppelin song. I saw them in concert July 21, 1973. at Providence Civic Center. I had turned 15 two months prior. John Bonham played solo for about 10 or 15 mins during intermission. It was 2nd loudest concert I had ever been to at that time. The loudest was Jimi Hendrix at Rhode Island Auditorium, May 17, 1969, I just turned 11. How we got the tickets is a long story. My friend got them. We were late. We arrived just as Jimi Hendrix came on stage. It was dark and it was first time we smelled weed. A lot of the old white guys were giving us a hard time but not the African Americans. It was incredibly loud. After two songs we left. We were scared. The Rhode Islan Auditorium was such an old brick build we could hear Jimi just fine outside the building across the street at my friends house. Steely Dan - Peg, Babylon Sisters, Black Cow, Home at Last, Pretzel Logic, Aja.

John Paul Jones was their secret weapon. Not only Bass but pretty much any other instrument and he had a lot to do with Production as well. Thats him on Mandolin.

The bassist, John Paul Jones, played Mandolin, along with keyboards. He is an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist.
He is an orchestra
And Robs forgot to acknowledge him, after acknowledging the other 3.
JPJ played Mandolin on Going to California. I love hearing that beautiful sound played so brilliantly. That is an insufficiently appreciated song
