Hi Matt, I grew up in OK and have driven by McAlester many times on the way to southeastern OK. By the way, good trout fishing below the dam at Broken Bow Reservoir.
The CopperJohn is my go-to fly with fishing with my grandson. Ton's of bluegill, he is young and needs action, and I do use it for trout. I will try this one today and will give it a go this weekend. Matt, thanks for all you do.
Hi Matt. Enjoyed watching you tie this version of the Copper John. You keep doing these and I’ll need another fly box. Have a great weekend and hopefully get some fishing in. Take care.
Matt, The Copper John, my favorite fly. Awesome variation! Several years ago, when I was learning how to fly fish, the CJ, always produced for me. Gave me confidence. Thanks for what you do!
Nice fly Matt. I like it. I don't get into a lot of beads or synthetics but I love rubber legs. I'll have to think of some traditional flies that could be enhanced by adding rubber legs!
Once again a pretty easy tie but a good looking fly. There could be lots of color combinations with the legs, hackle and bead but I wouldn't disturb the copper part. On second thought why not disturb the copper part after all there are no rules in fly tying. Keep the good stuff coming Matt.
Thanks, Matt, for a nice variation of a good fly! It's always a pleasure to watch you in action n the tips you give are good tips. This variation is multi species fishy looking. I think different colors would work well. Ive a friend thats partial to a red copper john. That could be varied as well. Thanks again for another good video! God Bless n Fish on!
What a cool looking fly. I don’t know if it will catch fish, but I’m headed for my tying bench. I have some copper Johns, but nothing like this. Thanks Matt for the inspiration.
Nice copper John variation! I remember watching a test of the device that would be known as the MOAB at the Nevada National Security Site (Nevada Test Site at the time). Having also, been around for a couple of underground nuclear weapons tests, I can definitively say, the MOAB earned its name!
Hi Matt. I emailed you a couple weeks ago. I received a book for Father's day that replaced one I lost in my travels that was inspirational to me for fly fishing for trout. My uncle and mentor gave me a copy in the 60s. If you never have, read The Sweet of The Year by R. Palmer Baker Jr. It's a quick read only 127 pages. But worth it. Quite memorable. Have a great 4th. Thank you!
Nice choice. Oddly enough, I just got some barred pumpkin rubber legs. Wonder what I should use them for? Making Copper Johns is where I really enjoy using the rotary function of my vise. You can leave the wire right on the spool & feed it onto the hook providing tension with one hand while rotating the vise with the other. It’s faster & easier with less wasted wire. Since you have the same vise, I assume you cut the wire piece for demonstration purposes.
Wow! A jumbo bomb juxtaposed with a Jumbo John :o) I think that's what that big boy is called 🤔That "101" book is great, lots of beautiful patterns. Matt you have an awesome job, thanks for your continued service. It's an honor to know all facets of your life. So, any chance of seeing that news segment and are they gonna let you light that "mother" up for the 4th? 😉👍Have a great weekend!
I really like this Fly a bunch! This is a pattern that can be used for multiple species. Excellent tie-up. Thanks again Matt for a great channel. Your video Quality is perfect.
MOAB sounds like a fly, it would need a red fuse on the end and a lot of FLASH.
Nice Tie Matt Thanks 🎣🎣🙏
Tks for sharing matt sweet looking pattern 😊
Awesome MOAB!! Thanks for the share! Hope you're well my friend.
Good morning, and thanks for keeping us safe☕️☕️👍
I have been hard on the sunfish up here. Looks like a fun bug😉

Good Steelhead pattern on lake Superior Tributaries.
Thanks Matt for sharing. A very nice warm water version of a classic fly. Always a good nymph pattern for trout or panfish. Thanks my Friend.

Nice work again Matt. You make tying on the goose biots look easy.
Awesome video Matt! I like the water bug characteristics of the fly, along with the other characteristics that the fly imitates. Tight lines! 🎣🎣🤘
