I'll never forget this recording concert. I was there and had sneaked my tape recorder in. I recorded everything from the processional song (I'll Say Yes To My Lord), to the praise break after singing 'Deep Down In My Heart'. The church danced a while behind this song. I still have this tape and will cherish it until I die.
How blessed you were to record such marvelous, uplifting music of our people! If Black churches would return to our inspired, Holy Ghost-filled music of the 1940's--1970's, we'd see more worship centered on God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, instead of all these pitiful "Lazy Lounge Singer" imitations of secular entertainment.
I cry sometimes thinking about those days because I miss them badly.. Ebenezer Baptist Church was a ordinary persons church. You didn't pretend to be something you are not. The membership in general was on the lower rungs of the economic scale but we didn't care about material things like other churches did. Some of the members were "country" and others were "ghetto" but Ebenezer loved to praise the Lord and it was real straight from the heart.
OMG! This brings back so many wonderful and amazing memories of the old anointed Ebenezer. We use to have some CHURCH up in there! Mrs. Brown use to work us to perfection! That was truly a blessed time. Everybody thought we were C.O.G.I.C. or some type of holiness church. I got my church foundation there and it is still a sure one.
@Antonio Chiquito Welcome to the joyful heritage of music in the African- American *Baptist and Pentecostal churches!* This is our inheri- tance as believers. *All the music* of *all God's people* at *all times* and in *all places* collectively belongs to *all* of us in the worldwide Body of Christ. And go ahead and *get your shout on* and *get your praise in!* *HALLELUJAH!*
Yes, I play the tambourine, and when I hear those JOYFUL TAMBOURINES OF PRAISE, I "go back home" and HAVE TO MOVE on this anthem of praise! GLORY TO GOD for this wonderful sacred treasure of our Black Churches!
Charity Dell When God dipped his pen of love down in my heart, He wrote my soul a message that He wanted me to know. Then He put His arms all around me, and His live deep down inside of me...I've got the live Jesus, deep down in my heart
This is my grandpa singing and even though I never knew him I've been told he was a good man
Indeed he was a very great man!
