- Simon Dupree and the Big Sound were a British psychedelic band formed in 1966 by brothers Derek (vocals), Phil (vocals, saxophone, trumpet), and Ray Shulman (guitar, violin, trumpet, vocals); also known for their later prog rock band, Gentle Giant. Making up the rest of the group were Peter O'Flaherty (bass guitar) (born 8 May 1944, in Gosport, Hampshire), Eric Hine (keyboards) (born Eric Raymond Lewis Hines, 4 September 1944, in Portsmouth, Hampshire), and Tony Ransley (drums) (born Anthony John Ransley, 17 May 1944, in Portsmouth, Hampshire) 'Simon Dupree and the Big Sound' came about in the course of their search for a flashy name. This was their third single which peaked at #57 - but the follow-up was "Kites", a song for which they are still mostly remembered.

A song that escapes me Victor ., Their songs Kites and for whom the bell tolls are the only ones i can remember, Thanks Victor
This was amazing. I had never heard of this band before. Hard to believe it was released in 1966/7. It has more of that early 80s attitude about it. Thanks for this Victor.
Again a song I can't remember🤔, it sounds really great👍, looks like I missed a lot when I was young😅. Many thanks Victor, all the best! Cheers, E.H.
Not a big hit, Ebi, but a band to remember.

They were popular for a time, over here.
@sunryse111 I'm so thankful for the rock n roll music that came out of England back in the 60s and 70s.
@@sunryse111What about Scotland, any famous rock n roll group from the 60s and 70s
@@usmc-veteran73-77 The Bay City Rollers, Marmalade and Lulu & The Luvvers all come to mind, Chuck!
@sunryse111 I assumed those groups came out of England. That's good to know when I hear their music.
