I loved that guy.. pretty much every 90s movie trailer is that man there.. Could you imagine him bored at breakfast.. making a trailer of his boiled egg and eating either with TOOOOOOAAAAST..!
I do notice these guys seem to all have a particular sound. In fact I didn't even realize I had been hearing different people all these years/trailers.
theRealAV8r That "sound" is nick named the "radio tone", as the tone of their particular voices carry a deep, powerful, presence through a sensitive (and very expensive) microphone..It's that tone, coupled with a slightly exaggerated enunciation that gives you the "radio or TV tone" we all hear ever day..
░KenLinx░ I think it's because the big movies today are so pompus, and self-important that they feel above putting narration in the trailer. It's just so sad that we can't have big, indulgent fun anymore.
God this is so nostalgic. The style back then was so distinct. Makes me think of the Shirley temple video set commercial. I still hear the song in my head when I think of it.
I was doing TV spots for Universal Studios Hollywood at Margarita Mix in Hollywood around 1994 and guess who was in the session before me... none other than DLF... I knew he was in the building when I arrived... his limo was in the parking lot with the license plate DLF. He left the booth and I walked in past him and said, "Hey. Sounded great!" I finished in about 5 minutes and he was still talking with the producers and when I came out he said, "Hey! You sounded great too!" I introduced myself and we shook hands. That was a cool moment!
Don's voice and delivery will always be the gold standard. Right up there were Richard Kiley and James Earl Jones. Currently PBS's Will Lyman of Frontline is excellent!
In a world where people are stupid and believe that people with gifts use autotune... this summer the action- packed thriller you have all been waiting for is coming to your local theatre...
I wanna do this...I write trailers for movies that don't exist just so I can practice. I record all my practice trailers on reel to reel tape for that added depth. Don LaFontaine was great, but he was at his peak in the 80s during the era of analog reel to reel recording...Especially when he did a trailer for a low-budget horror movie.
I would go around narrating everything I did if I had these voices. "He picks up a pack of tomatoes, then he puts them in the basket.. He contemplate if he should buy a handful of nuts" Everything would be epic.
I think so, too. This is all about marketing. They are looking for a pretty narrow voice range to begin with, and only so many potential voice actors will fit in. Those who fit in will get the most of the work and pay. The funny thing about the 'authoritative sounding voice' is that many historical leaders have hardly had the kind of rich voice used in advertisements involved in suggesting authoritative qualities!
Yup it is. He's a news anchor in real life. Believe it or not, out on the west coast, his real 10 o'clock newscast used to come on right after Arrested Development on Fox.
Good question. I think that is maybe because of their reliability and professionalism. Them being reliable and consistently good at it, added to the fact they are professionals transmits an image of quality that some amateur voice over artists don't. I think it is a risk related choice. They cost more, but it's safe and reliable work, I suppose. Just my two cents.
i wish i had a voice like that when i was in high school failed every oral report to my class with a super deep plain voice i was horrible at giving out reports
I miss Don LaFontaine.... I grew up with him being the man, and there will never be another exactly like him.
I'm better than him
DJ80s we all miss don! Plus pretty much everyone else just copies his voice. And I'm not even mad. It's perfect
I loved that guy.. pretty much every 90s movie trailer is that man there..

Pablo Francisco is carrying the torch for Don
I do notice these guys seem to all have a particular sound. In fact I didn't even realize I had been hearing different people all these years/trailers.
"The number one movie in america."
theRealAV8r That "sound" is nick named the "radio tone", as the tone of their particular voices carry a deep, powerful, presence through a sensitive (and very expensive) microphone..It's that tone, coupled with a slightly exaggerated enunciation that gives you the "radio or TV tone" we all hear ever day..
oh man hearing Don Lafontaine's voice brings back so many memories from that signature sound quality of VHS tapes in the 90's :(
Theres no voice narration for trailers anymore. If there is, its just cheesy..
Why is it cheesy now ?
Well, we still have who narrates the Honest Trailers. Does that count?
░KenLinx░ I was just thinking the same thing, its become a parady of itself.
░KenLinx░ I think it's because the big movies today are so pompus, and self-important that they feel above putting narration in the trailer. It's just so sad that we can't have big, indulgent fun anymore.
BigEWR For me that definitely counts! :D
R.I.P. Don Fontaine, you were one of the best thanks for all the movies I remember your voice from
VHS Collector Kyle awwww...what did he die of?
Rest in peace Don LaFonaine (August 26, 1940 - September 1, 2008)
Their voices are like God telling you, "Go see that movie".
God this is so nostalgic. The style back then was so distinct. Makes me think of the Shirley temple video set commercial. I still hear the song in my head when I think of it.
Of all the voice-over artists out there in this business, I have to say that Don LaFontaine was one of the best. And we all miss him a lot!
I was doing TV spots for Universal Studios Hollywood at Margarita Mix in Hollywood around 1994 and guess who was in the session before me... none other than DLF... @@JPWesterberg That's definitely for sure.
...In a world without Don Lafontaine...
...life sucks.
The voices of these men are incredible.
The guy who made the voice over for this documentary must feel pretty lame hahaha
How com I never heard their names before ? It takes me back to video 📼 that I wish I still have today.
As an actor and voice-over artist, this is an inspiration!
Don Lafontaine, Hal Douglas, Percy Rodriguez, Adolph Caesar and more were legends
Everyone tries to sound like Don ....
Fun Fact. Some of these voiceover talents also did work for news openers and radio.
No way Don died. This is a load of bullshit, we need him in more movies. He was a legendary and cheery man. Rest in peace
Don's voice and delivery will always be the gold standard. Right up there were Richard Kiley and James Earl Jones. Currently PBS's Will Lyman of Frontline is excellent!
In a world where movies needed publicity, one voice dared to stand alone.
#RIPDon
That's a good practice line right there. I actually pull this off pretty easily.
Damn dude I always knew about Don from him doing all the WWF Promos... No other voice like his man..
Actually there’s a whole career off of voices like that
Normal baby born: crying
These people born: "in a world..."
Still come back to this when I need VO inspiration!
If I were so rich, I'd hire one of these to narrate my life as it was happening. That would be cool.
I love this many voice overs awesomeness!
imagine how he wuld sound if he inhaled helium lol
Helium makes your voice higher. Imagine if he inhaled sulphur hexafluoride, which is generally harmless like helium but makes your voice much lower!
"This summer..."
Amen, bomber. Now that I've seen his face and have come to know these masters, I find myself tearing up when I watch old movies and hear Don's work.
I miss Don LaFontaine so much. RIP. Cheers!
In a world where people are stupid and believe that people with gifts use autotune... this summer the action- packed thriller you have all been waiting for is coming to your local theatre...

Yeah, I heard it at first but you see him at a few points throughout. Too awesome!
i've always dreamed to be a voice artist. i hope i can be one of the 5
he did. in another video they talked about how he essentially pioneered that style of voice and depth of vocal range.
always nice to hear the legends
It's the art of Self Expression. RIP Don La Fontaine.
Peter Cullen should totally do commercials. If Optimus Prime tried to sell me something, hell, I'd buy it.
I would go around narrating everything I did if I had these voices. "He picks up a pack of tomatoes, then he puts them in the basket.. He contemplate if he should buy a handful of nuts" Everything would be epic.
Can't help but think "IN A WORLD, WHERE..." when I hear these voices.
RIP Hal Douglas
Their voices are amazing, I didn't know it was them!
I feel like I'm watching Arrested Development for the first 15 seconds of this clip.
And now, we have the Honest Trailers Guy paying tribute to these great voices!
Those aren't million dollar voices. They are BILLION dollar voice legends!
thats amazing! i always wanted to k.ow who.did.all those voice overs, thats so cool!
1:23 its kinda funny because the reporter was on Arrested Development too.. LOL
These voices always start with 'In a world, ..."
The news caster has a fantastic voice too.
People are born with these voices. Genetics or cigarettes got these folks where they are
John Beard is now an TV anchor here in Buffalo on WGRZ Channel 2-
"As he felt that familiar sensation, he knew what had to be done."
And all they get to say now is " This Summer. Film of the year".
oh, mr. don la fontaine. how we miss you.
One Man... One Desire!!!!!
Movies are not the same without “In a world where...” movie voiceguy.
This Summer
Imagine all the guys at a dinner.. and talking in 'character'..
Pass thuurrrr buuuttteeeerrrhhh
lol iv always wanted to see these guys
Ben Patrick is really famous to me.. he sounds so familiar in all the 90's movies I think
This is an art!! !
I think so, too. This is all about marketing. They are looking for a pretty narrow voice range to begin with, and only so many potential voice actors will fit in. Those who fit in will get the most of the work and pay.

Is that the news anchor from Arrested Development?
Yup it is. He's a news anchor in real life. Believe it or not, out on the west coast, his real 10 o'clock newscast used to come on right after Arrested Development on Fox.
god i remember these growing up wow
It's been a long while sense I've heard a voice over in a trailer. I wish they would start back doing it.
now i finally know who does the voiceovers of movie trailers
Good question. I think that is maybe because of their reliability and professionalism. Them being reliable and consistently good at it, added to the fact they are professionals transmits an image of quality that some amateur voice over artists don't. I think it is a risk related choice. They cost more, but it's safe and reliable work, I suppose.
Just my two cents.
Don is full of fun. Rest in peace Godfather of Voice Acting.
all those other guys sound like Don La Fontaine! I guess Don set the standard for all of them
Wait... there's more than one Mr Big Voice?!?!?!
Ben Patrick Johnson is my inspiration for voice acting.
after seeing this, all i wanna do is watch an hour of movie trailers....!
Trailers haven't been the same ever since.
I love this!!
@JayroeEnterprises Don LaFontaine is actually the one who made that phrase famous. May he rest in peace.
This was literally the year I was born 😂
In a world...
The simpsons! It was your idea of fun!
LOL ironically this guy played the reporter on Arrested Development as well.
I want voices like these haha or like Peter Cullen w/ Optimus Prime's voice, I would do trailers all day!
John Le I would answer my calls impersonating Prime lmao
ohh I thought the guy from honest trailers was here?
die goldenen Stimmen
their was a voiceover in this video...
It's interesting how reporters talk at you. As though they know what they're talking about.
R.I.P Don :(
i wish i had a voice like that when i was in high school
failed every oral report to my class
with a super deep plain voice i was horrible at giving out reports
As a romcom lover born in the late 90's, Ben Patrick Johnson and George Del Hoya are the voices of my childhood
I recall hearing Del Hoya in a lot of TV promos.
holy crap the AD news anchor
Coming to a theater near you!
if I have a voice like this. i wont stop talking!
Michael Ironside voice still kicks ass!!!
Sam Fisher 4 ever xD
RIP Mike
I'm French so I almost never hear those voices, but when I listen to it tell me something :)
I think I speak for everyone in a damn world when I say I wish I could make millions from home talking into a microphone in a badass voice
I really wish I had a voice like that.
One man, one desire...
I hear most commercials and movie trailers from Ben Patrick Johnson and George Del Hoya.
I always did wonder who did those voiceovers. My journey is over
I think Ben Patrick Johnson is also on Nickolodien
This is more a segment about voice-over artists, not just voice actors.
thumbs up 2012
its so weird hearing them talking and see them irl
