Such a brilliant and heartbreaking song. All these years, and I still can't get through it. Everything left inside, left dormant and dead, is still alive, and that is good to have.
I rem watching this performance on Later, I was totally blown away by her, doesn't get the credit she deserves at times, shes a great singer and songwriter.
One of my absolute favorite songs and the second most heartbreaking ( right after Wish You Were Here). I’ve related in such different ways. At first just generally about life. Then specifically about a friend. Then a man I love. Finally my daughter whose walked out of my life for reasons no one understands because of her mental illness. This makes it perfection-when it resonates in so many ways. I’ve planned forever to have “waste if gunpowder and sky” tattooed on. Thank you, Aimee .
Did you get that tattoo? Because if you don't, I think I'm going to! Always been my favorite song of hers. And Wish You Were Here is right up there with top heartbreaking songs of all time, too!
I met Aimee on August 1, 1981 at her workplace, Newbury Comics in Boston Ma, when at the time she was in a band called "The Young Snakes" a very tready art like act. I was beginning to become a band agent she was looking to book a venue at the Living Room, which was a popular Night club in Providence, RI. She gave me a demo tape of her band, which I still have. Oh yeah, the got the gig " a $150 opening act! LOL She had the most amazing eyes I have ever seen and such a womanly way about her. :)
Passionate and moving. I do enjoy her more with just her voice and guitar accompaniment. She is so intimate in the best sense of the word when she performs thusly. In my humble opinion...
Today IS the 4th of July. Another (very hot) june has gone by. I can't beleive this is the last July of this decade....where has it all gone!? But now here I am, and the world HAS gotten colder. :'-( She is such a great song writer, her lyrics have so many different levels of meaning and possible interpretations. Unique. Moving. Timeless. Thank you Aimee :-)
Oh, baby, I wonder if when you are older Someday You'll wake up And say, 'My God, I should have told her What would it take But, now here I am and the world's gotten colder And she's got the river down which I sold her'
Her performances generally have very little emotion or affect. Not a criticism; just the way she plays. But here, she's really seems to be feeling a lot playing this song. Very nice.
@redskydc3 i have only heard this song by her but i think she sings good, she trys hard and it doesnt come across as obnoxious like lady gaga's bad romance.
A horrible voice ??? Are you kidding me ? It is sweet, redskydc3, that you read to people with head injuries but you shouldn't take their opinions too seriously until they are better. And, if by "great vocals ", you refer to blinking wet ear pups picked for their passable talent & marketable inoffensiveness or the warblers who genuinely can wobble out a note for 60 seconds then these exponents of musical porridge need such gargantuan notes to pad out vacuous efforts that have nothing to say.

Love this. I listen to this song and Whatever every year around this time..

this version is a million times better than the one in the whatever album. it has been for years one of my favourites aimee's performances ever!
:O You know, I love listening to her music, but I'd never seen a video or picture of her. So I've only just noticed that she's GORGEOUS.

what can one day about beauty
great lyrics
Wonderful song as usual but I don't think I've heard her perform totally by herself before with no backup. Fabulous.
Nice, real nice.
"Oh, baby, I wonder -
If when you are older -
Someday-
Youll wake up"
I know how she feels.......
thumbs up
Someone PLEASE put up a better quality video of this Jools Holland gig!!!
nice song
Oh, baby, I wonder if when you are older
Someday
You'll wake up
And say, 'My God, I should have told her
What would it take
But, now here I am and the world's gotten colder

I only like this song when it's done live--the studio version is too over-produced. I (Heart) Aimee!!
I find Aimee more compelling without the band.
