    I love my M6 MKII...The R7 focus misses way too much. Not refined yet in my opinion. Set the autofocus media hype aside and the R7 has focus issues.

    I have an M6II but would choose the R7 for its IBIS. The only thing that's stopping me from getting the R7 is the larger size.

    I just upgraded from my full frame Canon R to the R6 MkII. I am really impressed and will sell my R on the used market but now am wondering if I should also sell my R7 since the R6 MKII does so much of what the R7 does and has less of a rolling shutter effect. That got me thinking that my M6 MkII could just be my replacement for the R7 when I want an APS-c sensor. Other than burst mode with electronic shutter it pretty much is the same in many ways. Your video has been very helpful.

    i recently bought 2 M6 MKii (used) to use for B roll and interview iso cams. But.. finding it really works well as a main cam for the on the go video.

    The M6ii is a great camera without a great lens to use it's ability.
    My favourite lens is the 11-22mm but I prefer the smaller M6 body. The speed is amazing but the zoom lenses are not good enough. I tried a speed booster but it's overkill for this camera and better on a 6D or 5D mkiii.
    If only there was an L level 55-200 of 18-55mm, this would be a great camera but the feature are wasted on the 11-22mm and speed isn't needed.
    It may be good for video though

      I once had an eos m5 with the 22mm f2. I'm tempted to pick up another as that lens was great. It's one of my favourite lenses that I've ever owned for everyday use. It's such a shame that Canon discontinued the eos m cameras.

    I rented an R8 + 15-35 F2.8L to compare with my M6MKII + 11-22mm (not video), I do landscape and portraits and for my surprise the R8 showed to be not better, in some shots the M6 was even better compared to the R8, Sigma EFM 56mm was just a little inferior (but a little) to the R8 + EF 70-200 F4L IS II @ 90mm and I think the Sigma should be much more superior to the RF 85 F2 that has chromatic aberrations everywhere. I´m very disappointed with the Canon RF lens line quality, not what I expected, my 11-22mm demonstrated to be sharper at FF 35mm compared with the 15.35 f2.8L @ F5.6
    R7 besides IBIS and video is not better than R8 (on video R8 overheats after 25min with 4K60), so even today I recommend the M system even if its currently discontinued if you don´t shot action. For fast action of course this is not the camera.
    The other contender could be the Sony A7CII, but with the issues of the sensor that could get easily dust, not uniform white balance, color science that is inferior to Canon and lot of customers blaming Sony´s zoom to get dust in the inside, I still prefer the M6.
    Someone can blame de camera, but in some cases is the technique that is not correct.

    You have a good voice and your video looks okay.
    But you should have called the video " why I love my M6 II "
    Side by side I would choose the R7 any day.
    Finishing off by saying you would use your R6.... Isn't relevant in a comparison between the M6 and R7.... Is it.
    I get it that you love your M6 II. But the only reason to choose a M6 II is portability and size IMHO.

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for wording that well haha. I do get where you're coming from however, my videos directions are really opinion based. As I've mentioned, the R7 is a superior camera in many ways but I do see more advantages than just portability and size. It's also mainly based around my experience and my personal gear collection and workflow.
      So yes it's not an objective spec sheet comparison because we all know who wins that easy + it's gonna be easy for anyone to just click off and watch the next video on this topic as many have already said what needs to be said.
      That being said, thanks for being respectful!

  • @WestVirginiaWildlife
    @WestVirginiaWildlife 6 місяців тому +1

    I had the m6 ii and I sold it for an r10. The reasons were the bird eye af, 4k 60p with a crop (more reach so a pro for me lol), and compatibility with rf lenses like the 600 f11 that I use with it (also sold my sigma 150-600). I'll probably end up getting the canon 200-800 soon since I like the ability to zoom and I noticed the image quality was better on the sigma 150-600 which should be similar if not better in the 200-800. Also the grip size is way better on the r10.

    • @rafam8359
      @rafam8359 6 місяців тому +1

      How good is r10 for birding in yours eyes, speed, buffor size for raw/jpeg/battery life??? I have m6ii with sigma 150 600 c and I am thinking to upgrade.

    • @WestVirginiaWildlife
      @WestVirginiaWildlife 6 місяців тому

      @@rafam8359 Hey, sorry for the delay. I mostly take videos so buffer isn't really a concern for me but when I do take photos I take them in c-raw because with a high speed card at 15fps (whether mechanical or electronic) the buffer can last 10 seconds which is really good. The speed of the camera is very good, the bird eye af makes getting the shot (or video) much easier. The battery life is decent, around the same as the m6ii I'd say and they use the same battery. Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth it over the m6ii but now that the r8 is out and priced inbetween the r10 and r7 I would gravitate towards that. It can shoot oversampled 4k at 60p and is a full-frame sensor though for stills it's only 24 megapixels which when cropped to aps-c is about 9 megapixels. The r10 shoots either oversampled 4k at 30p or decent 4k 60p with a crop. I saw from someone that the r7 has a higher quality 4k 60p crop mode (and it crops more at 1.81x vs 1.56x) or subpar 4k 60p without a crop (for the r10 if I want 60p at a wider angle I use 1080p), though the r10 was $500 cheaper which is a lot. I'm starting to see why a full-frame camera that can shoot 8k would be highly beneficial for handheld bird videos because the bird would be smaller in the frame yet retain good image quality and I can more easily stabilize the video in davinci resolve since there is more cropping room. Recording handheld video in the 4k 60p crop mode makes it harder to keep the bird in the frame which leads to more shaky footage. I'm waiting for an r5 II so I can shoot 8k 60p with bird eye af at a wider angle and then stabilize in post with a crop. Maybe because I'm more video focused lol. The 200-800 makes full-frame cameras more viable for small birds also so perhaps the big brain move is to get an r8 with a 200-800 and call it a day lol.

      @karlgunterwunsch1950 6 місяців тому

      @@walter_fernandez That still isn't a good argument - if any of the lenses break then it's a make or break moment for the whole setup. You can't simply adapt your R lens from your R6, nor can you expect any shops to still carry M lenses. This could easily render the camera completely useless.

      @@karlgunterwunsch1950 you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this one lol - is your point seriously gonna be about the scarcity of EF-M lenses?

    Considering the price that Canon charges for the M6, it should have come equipped with a built-in EVF. As a video camera, maybe it's very good, but as a stills camera, without an EVF, it can't be considered a serious choice.

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  7 місяців тому +4

      I think it's funny how we think of EVF as a staple for photographers when many pro photographers don't use it. On the contrary, cinema cameras have had EVF attachments for decades now so idk man. I personally don't care about the EVF at all and I use this camera also exclusively for stills so I'll respectfully disagree with you there.

      Evf just adds bulk to the size. Some people want a very compact camera with no evf. Most canon cameras have an evf if you want one. Also tons of people don’t even use the evf. I’ve even seen a few camera channels mention how they don’t use the evf.
