I played ZE and ZS from 2011-2015 rather seriously. An excellent gamemode. Many fond memories. My favourite was the map where you had a huey helicoptor flying in a linear canyon map with walkways on both sides of the canyon walls, and a boat which followed a set path. Your end goal was to make it to an island with a bunker on it and an antenna, and you had to activate a nuke. The zombies could hop into this UFOs/Pods to try and shoot the HUey out of the sky. I just remembered the predator map, the Mako reactor map (amazing music on that one, I got introduced to the stomp box, the prodigy, pendulum) and so forth. So many memories forged. If you played on DtK (Dying2Kill) during this period, you are a legend!
Zombie Survival is probably by far the best gamemode on Garry’s Mod. The community is just amazing. The Zbeat themes are perfectly designed. JetBoom really deserves credit for his hard work. This gamemode has the potential of a standalone game. I personally believe it’s underrated on UA-cam.
@@Palexite Yes. No. Kind of. There’s zombie escape and zombie survival for tf2. I don’t have much experience in survival but in escape it’s that the survivors progress through a level holding various checkpoints until the end where they make one last stand and then the entire level is nuked
I remember their was an old zombie game mode in the CSGO community servers back in 2014-15 that had around 70 or more people playing at all times on the same server. It was different from the classic zombie survival game mode and consisted of a large map that you would have to run through with parkour, defense, and puzzle sections, sometimes depending on the map a bossfight would be at the end. However the core elements of ZS where still their. I doubt It even exists anymore, I haven't touched that game since late 2015.
are u talking about zombie escape? If so then there are still tons of servers still running it. I mostly play in Gfl servers. Theres even a gmod alternative to it called objective.
More than 10 years ago, when i had pirate version of CSS v34, everyday my online friends and I were playing CSS zombie mod. It was incredibly fun. We were roleplaying depends on the side of conflict. We knew every single hidespot and door codes for all maps we ever played. We knew all the names of our favorite (and most hateful) ZM and ZE maps. I still do remember. We were checking gamebanana and other sites regularly for new skins and models and we had the same mods. We've always played as SAS or GIGN (like hazmat soldiers and riot cops). We were the best online friends from different cities. The funniest guvs I have ever met in online games. Now I dont even know if they're still alive, I dont even remember their names and nicknames. One day we just...stopped playing for different reasons and never have contact with each other anymore. That must be sad but no. Im happy that I had these friends and those THOUSAND hours of playing zombie mod with them.

Ah, apologies. I am missing the creator bit on the Garry's Mod portion, but; besides that I tried to just mainly focus on the game-mode itself, not the servers. I was hoping I could just do one thing to not shift the attention.

There is a regular version of Zombie Survival in CSGO where the zombies are played by actual people instead of bots. kind of hard to find the servers unless you're intentionally looking for them, but they're good fun.
1:03 oh yeah, it was pretty kickass when that music kicked in and the Zombies threw their full force at the Humans. Played lots of this gamemode on the Gmod [HG] Server which I think is still pretty active. Not my most played gamemode but definitely one of the most memorable. I loved it when the zombie wave would end and the zombies could become crows to spectate and annoy the humans until the next wave began. Or when you had a competent teams of builders that would make an impenetrable fortress complete with turrets and gun ports. Real fun game.
It's a shame that you didn't go into the history of gmod's zombie survival very much, I know a lot about it and how its evolved over the years with the older version and gameplay dying off mainly because of garry updating lua in such a way that it broke the gamemode.
@@darkforce2559 The old style before gmod updated to gmod 13 was more run & gun and you got an upgraded weapon when you've killed x amount of zombies. The newer version is focused around creating a barricade and zombies are so strong that you usually can't survive very long outside of a barricade. You get weapons in the newer version by gaining points from shooting zombies and then spending those points on the gun or tools you would like. Gameplay is just completely different but somethings are still the same between both versions.
It isn't even so much that the old gamemode is broken but rather so many things within the engine changed after the orange box update. You used to actually be able to jump over and walk on props in the game without getting stuck on them or rubber banding all over the place. Old ZS, you pushed props around or moved heavier ones by shooting them, blocked doors with players and props and above all you played aggressively, often running away from the zombies while fighting them instead of hiding in a corner stacked with 80 other humans while all the zombies quit. Players actually collided and stacking an entire wall in a small room was expected. People were blocked, players would be shoved around by each other and the zombies were actually fun to play with prop throwing where you could whip a tire across the map and potentially get a kill. There were actually many years where people enjoyed playing zombie. There was no store, no magic, no hammer/nails or building. There were no waves or boss zombies, just a timer. Zombie classes were somewhat similar. The old gamemode mostly still works but the zombie sweps just straight don't feel right and the zombie animations are broken. The lack of an ability to not get stuck on any item with physics just by touching it makes it just not even fun to play since prop blocking areas is part of the game.
I freakin adore the Zombie Escape (ZE) maps. I literally can never get enough of those matches. ze_lotr mines of moria was awesome, as well as helms deep, these two being among the very first ze games I ever played, and I was hooked ever since. There are too many other maps to count that I love.
Videos about Zombie Survival Source was one of the first things I ever saw when I started watching UA-cam videos. I must’ve been like 8 or 10 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, but I couldn’t remember the kinds of videos I watched so I ended up moving in and forgetting about it
As someone who used to happily host a server on Gmod that rotated gamemodes (TTT, Prop Hunt, Zombie Survival, and sometimes Murder) the one gamemode I personally enjoyed the most was Zombie Survival. An underlooked aspect of the Gmod version is that certain props can make "combination weapons" sorta like in Dead Rising. I feel like the developer of the main gamemode for Gmod should totally look into fleshing out the combination system even further, as right now it's more of a "secret" than anything. Still an absolutely fantastic gamemode to play though
When i was younger i couldnt play zombies because my parents didnt like me playing multiplayer unless it was a lan party with friends. Instead, me and my friends would put 100 bots in a lan match and let them only use knifes and shields (it was in cs 1.6), and when one of us died we would respawn using a command we found on a command list on a random gaming forum. Basically i was playing the knock off version of zombie survival
ZS is a good gamemode, the history of it on gmod in itself is worth a video of its own. Lots of drama and tension. Big names that have become superstars of the Zombie Survival world, whether for good or bad reasons. I've spent a lot of time on Sunrust. A lot of the original creators of ZS on Gmod are former members of NoxiousNet who wound up founding Sunrust and continue developing off of the original formula to this day (When Pufulet and tori aren't messing it up). New sub-gamemodes have developed out of it too, most recently, to my knowledge, is Blood Lust from Hot Dad ZS, which came out just a few days ago, haven't had a chance to play it yet unfortunately.
@@FrancoM- The server is down right now, it was just being tested. You can join the discord group and be notified when it is up again though. You can find the link on the steam community page for Hot Dad.
I have been playing zombie survival since cs 1.6 its my faviorate mod. I played on the crack version of cs 1.6 cause i was little and didnt had money and the crack version came with bot support as well. Nowdays i just play it in gmod.
I hope you cover Team Fortress: Classic in the future. It also had tons of different servers and mods and was very popular during its glory days. It might be hard to find information about it today since it was popular around early-mid 00's. Some examples for mods: wall climbing (the climb 3), pathway climbing (mario world), escape maps (thegame), grenade jump, hide n seek, etc. People often think garrys mod or CS: source was what popularized custom gamemodes but TF: classic had it all long before those games came out.
Interesting Video. I didn’t know that Zombie Survival was still around which is surprising to me. Thanks for the Video though! They’re enjoyable to watch and inspire me to do some videos myself.

It's a shame that you didn't go into the history of gmod's zombie survival very much, I know a lot about it and how its evolved over the years with the older version and gameplay dying off mainly because of garry updating lua in such a way that it broke the gamemode.
Can u tell me More?
@@darkforce2559 The old style before gmod updated to gmod 13 was more run & gun and you got an upgraded weapon when you've killed x amount of zombies.
The newer version is focused around creating a barricade and zombies are so strong that you usually can't survive very long outside of a barricade. You get weapons in the newer version by gaining points from shooting zombies and then spending those points on the gun or tools you would like.
Gameplay is just completely different but somethings are still the same between both versions.
@@Yushe2 Okay i understand. Thanks
@@slayer3032 What you described, was my whole childhood, i loved the old version of ZS and the new one I just find so boring.
All these Source videos are great man I have always loved Source and there is so much info I had no idea about keep it up man
No talk about Zombie Escape mode (ze_ maps) in CSS and CSGO? Playing the lotr mines of moria map in zombie escape was my favorite experience.
I freakin adore the Zombie Escape (ZE) maps. I literally can never get enough of those matches. ze_lotr mines of moria was awesome, as well as helms deep, these two being among the very first ze games I ever played, and I was hooked ever since. There are too many other maps to count that I love.
oh the memories of playing massive abandoned mall rounds on gmod zs ;')
God, I grew up with this gamemode. I miss it so much. Those late 2000s-early 2010s man...
Videos about Zombie Survival Source was one of the first things I ever saw when I started watching UA-cam videos. I must’ve been like 8 or 10 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, but I couldn’t remember the kinds of videos I watched so I ended up moving in and forgetting about it
I was introduced from Venturians vids, and after that, I was hooked.
Aye same
Keep up the good work my guy
As someone who used to happily host a server on Gmod that rotated gamemodes (TTT, Prop Hunt, Zombie Survival, and sometimes Murder) the one gamemode I personally enjoyed the most was Zombie Survival. An underlooked aspect of the Gmod version is that certain props can make "combination weapons" sorta like in Dead Rising. I feel like the developer of the main gamemode for Gmod should totally look into fleshing out the combination system even further, as right now it's more of a "secret" than anything. Still an absolutely fantastic gamemode to play though
Loved ZS on GMOD with the shaun of the dead music
I remember playing Zombie Plague on cs 1.6 back in 2005-2006 when I was just a wee lad.
Good times
When i was younger i couldnt play zombies because my parents didnt like me playing multiplayer unless it was a lan party with friends. Instead, me and my friends would put 100 bots in a lan match and let them only use knifes and shields (it was in cs 1.6), and when one of us died we would respawn using a command we found on a command list on a random gaming forum. Basically i was playing the knock off version of zombie survival
You're videos are sooo adicting keep em comin please!
I used to play zombie escape so much on counter strike 1.6 xd the nostalgia is real
I always love this game mode in TF2 as a pyro main
My god thank you so much for making this because i dont know the full history of ZS and i think this has made me like it more
Ah, that theme. Also great video! I subscribed immediately
Great vid man, keep it up!
I grew up with the Gmod Zombie Survival and never knew the history of it until now.
Do you have the IP of Blood Lust from Hot Dad?
@@FrancoM- It's still being worked on very closely so I can't guarantee it will always be up, I will find you the IP.
@@stickman000100the2nd thanks you
@@FrancoM- The server is down right now, it was just being tested. You can join the discord group and be notified when it is up again though. You can find the link on the steam community page for Hot Dad.
@@stickman000100the2nd thanks you so much kraken
Ok sir, you earned a sub from me, bro your so entertaining while I play another game on the screen
I like zombie escape,I used to play it years ago on cs 1.6 and my favorite map was Jurasic Park. Also the stalker end was the cherry on top, loved it.
TF2 had some zombie survival gamemodes. There's Medic vs Engineer, Zombie escape, ETC
I like the short and sweet videos, maybe make a poll on it? Also, what kind of video editing software do you use?
Adobe Premiere Pro :)
I have been playing zombie survival since cs 1.6 its my faviorate mod.

stalker gameplay? does this mean stalker content perhaps? 👀
This was great, keep it up
would be cool to get a video on base wars or flood, if there is anything to be historically said
Interesting Video. I didn’t know that Zombie Survival was still around which is surprising to me. Thanks for the Video though! They’re enjoyable to watch and inspire me to do some videos myself.
CSO even made the mod into an official gamemode
I miss watching stuff like this
more stuff is definitely on the way when i get around to it, but ive been lacking any interest in doing voice over related things recently
Man the song of the intro is so good!!!!
God I miss being 5 playing Zombie survival in my moms basement
Fuck i love this game mode so much..still playing it to this day
Darn cs 1.6 is still alive but it's definitely dying slowly. Happy to see a video made about if!
It’s been years since I’ve heard the word Zombie Survival
Yeah Zombie plague was my most played mode on 1.6. Everyone else played normal mode. So much Memories
i remember playing this. gotta love source.
