These two very talented stars made such a perfect couple in several pictures......so both good looking and nice singers in all their films for Fox Studios.........Enjoyed all of them......the 40's had the best musicals ever made.
John Payne and Betty Grable are two of the best and underrated actors from Hollywood's Golden Age. Their performance of "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows" stands alongside Judy Garland's performance of the song as one of the very best recordings ever.
I, too, am a fan of Grable, Payne, and Garland. You might enjoy Alice Faye's rendition of this number; it was cut from the 1939 musical, Rose of Washington Square, but it can be found here on UA-cam.
One of my favorite Grable films. So many good production numbers in this. Betty Grable and technicolor was a perfect match. Growing up in chicago,we had a out station that showed 5 of her films from Fox constantly. This was one of them. But they showed lousy black and white copies. They were ok but years later when I saw them in technicolor I coundnt believe the difference. My favorite Blond of the golden age.
Back in the late 60's I saw Betty Grable with my parents at a dinner theatre, The Alhambra, that used to be in Jacksonville, Florida. At the time I was just way too young to really know who she was, but just that she was an "older star" (at least to me then, lol) I wasn't familiar with at my young age. This is a great duet and they're both beautiful! I'm more familiar with him because of all the re-showings and many times I've seen the film "Miracle on 34th Street" as the male lead with Maureen O'Hara :) I really want to watch this full film now too! Thanks for this post!
Hi Tommy. You are so right. Betty GRABLE and her fellow musical stars take some beating. They are from a byegone era when entertainment WAS entertainment. It doesn’t surprise me that your family members know these stars. Thank you for all your comments on my channel. It makes me happy to know that folks are getting enjoyment from my film clips. I love sharing them.
And Betty Grable Is One Of My Favorites And My Moms Favorites And My Grandpas Favorites And My Papas Favorites And Korts Favorites And Uncle Johnnys Favorites
...also ...John Payne said the favorite movie he did was "Miracle on 34th Street" because it was the most in line with his moral standards. However, here is *that moment when a cowboy sings like an angel!!!* (reference to all the Westerns he did, lol!) Such versatility!
My mother used to sing this song to me when I was little. Of course, my memory of the song is just bits and pieces, which I made into a whole song, which I sang it to my children when they were little. In my version, there were no men and women. And since they were infants, and couldn't get away, so they'd fall asleep!
At the end of the rainbow, there's happiness And to find it, how often I've tried But my life is a race, just a wild goose chase And my dreams have all been denied Why have I always been a failure? What can the reason be? I wonder if the world's to blame I wonder if it could be me?
BUENO , BUENO , LA PELÌCULA ESTÀ SENSACIONAL SOBRE TODO CON LA PRESENCIA DE JOHN PAYNE , MUCHO MUY GUAPO . LA LETRA LA RESPETO AL 1OO POR CIENTO ............................. PERO LA MÙSICA NO ES DE UN AUTOR GRINGO ES NI MÀS NI MENOS QUE DE FEDERICO CHOPIN . NO CONFUNDAN EL MEZCAL CON LA CHAMPAÑA .
Betty Grable was just Heaven. So pretty, vivacious, and charming. John Payne was always such a heartthrob.

"The Dolly Sisters" will always remain one of my favorite movies.

No noise-- just music and beautiful lyrics.

Agreed. They deserve more love if you ask me!

"underrated"
Payne &Grable were the perfect team in Dolly Sisters, Springtime in the Rockies & many other movies in the forties. Let's view them.
Loved her then, and love her now!
How beautiful she was!

I Had To Sing It To Charli That John Payne And Betty Grable Sing That Song From The Musical The Dolly Sisters
I Get The Song Stuck In My Head
I Grew Up With All Of Their Movies And Shows
Why does no one sing the verse which is so important to this song? Perry Como is the only on who did!
At the end of the rainbow, there's happiness
And to find it, how often I've tried
But my life is a race, just a wild goose chase
And my dreams have all been denied
Why have I always been a failure?
What can the reason be?
I wonder if the world's to blame
I wonder if it could be me?
Produced by GEORGIE JESSEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The first 2 lines of the music mimics Chopin's Fantasies Impromptu. Don't you think?
