    Don Ameche had an ineffable charm, and he could sing,too. and he worked well with Grable. and Tyrone Power, most handsome of male movie stars, ever (sorry, Gregory Peck), and Ty and Don were friends. but to get back to Don, this was simply wonderful, this number, and he helped make Grable a big movie star in this picture. how nice and generous is that?

    Cancion de la pelicula Serenata argentina - Down argentine way - producida por la Fox en 1940 donde Betty grable y Don Ameche sin ser cantantes la cantan muy bien. La simpatia de ambos actores contribuye a que se vea y oiga mas agradablemente. Si ademas añadimos a todo esto que Betty Grable bailaba bien, entonces el resumen es que la cancion es una delicia.

    Don't let anyone fool you - Rita Hayworth may have been the more exotic one, but Betty was the ultimate pin-up girl of WWII. Rita's bedroom negligee photo ran a cold second to Betty's iconic pinup photo. Millions of GIs kept Betty's photo on their walls at basic training and then in their satchels and truffle bags to look at while going through hell in Europe and Japan, and not just to sexually objectify her. She represented everyone's girlfriend, wife, sister, daughter, waiting for them back home like no other pinup girl - soldiers literally went on record crediting her with getting them through their war experiences, at least on a psychological level. All that with one photo. Rita experienced a popular resurgence through Shawshank Redemption (both the book and film) which has led people to overwhelmingly prefer Rita and conclude that she was top dog, but it would have been no contest in the 40s as to who was the "ultimate pinup girl." Grable's films were the bigger moneymakers, were more consistent in terms of quality, and frankly Betty had the better attitude and disposition throughout her life. Hayworth's success as a pinup girl seemed to shroud her in darkness and plague her with the inner demons of depression. But, Betty always headed toward the light.

    • @tiasemer3041
      @tiasemer3041 7 років тому +4

      John Lingard Hayworth was often purposely cast in not-great films, a punishment from Harry Cohn. She went through a great deal of abuse as a child and neglect in her marriages, as well as suffering from Alzheimer's. So as far as saying her "disposition" wasn't as light, well, she didn't have such a great life, and I don't think that was her own fault by any means.

    • @KammybRich7000
      @KammybRich7000 7 років тому +5

      Yeah I wrote that two years ago although even now I wasn't aware of the child abuse. Learn something new everyday. The post at the time was mainly directed at some of the people disparaging Betty's looks, usually compared to Hayworth (who did make a posthumous "comeback" via Shawshank) when its literally apples and oranges. Both went through some pretty hard stuff but gave as good as they got. More power to them

    • @scottneil2427
      @scottneil2427 7 років тому +1

      I heard Hayworth was actually a latina...which is interesting if true. What a turn off it is to find out Rita postponed marriage to a new husband in an attempt to squeeze vagina-alimony from the ex-husband to the greatest extent she could, hiring lawyers when she was broke, etc. I lost all respect for her then. I thought that kind of shit didn't start until the 80s.

    I'm a Brazilian,but I do not know what a rhumba has to do with Argentina,the land of tangos,milongas and the so callled "orquestras típicas" where a peculiar kind of accordion, the "bandoneon",can't miss. Ameche uses Spanish,but the Argentine accent is completely different.But american-way of seeing Latin America was just beginning.So Carmen Miranda fooled you withe her turbans and gowns that have nothing to do with Bahia female-street vendors, always dressed in impeccable white lace dresses.
