For whoever like me lived those moments of real passion and professionalism, it makes feel sad on how "The best airline of the decade" has "dramatically" changed.
Very excellent informative programme and on their first route HKG🇭🇰-MNL🇵🇭 i see Cathay Pacific service better than Philippine Airlines Mabuhay and Fiesta Classes. Also applies from EWR/JFK to MNL via HKG while PR runs the direct flight. Which can also explain why the airline has been getting former Philippine Airlines Crews to work for them
A blast from the past...when Cathay was truly a darling of Asian aviation and the first choice among business travellers traveling to the continent from other corners of the world. Fast forward to today and now they've fallen victim to bickering with politicians in Beijing and the rapid expansion of mainland Chinese competitors who now give flyers more choices at dirt-cheap airfares and have robbed a lot of former Cathay customers. And let's not forget the impact Gulf carriers like Emirates have had on Cathay's viability... That means one thing: either Cathay must adapt to the new reality in an ever-evolving industry or become the next dinosaur to head to extinction. Think defunct flag carriers like Malév, Pan Am, Sabena, and Swissair.... And Alitalia is about to be headed to that graveyard too...
I think they still have strong market despite of their competitors. There are a lot of times they are cheaper compared to their competitors. Travellers here in Philippines still travel with Cathay going to USA or Europe because most of the time their tickets on sale during peak seasons and cheaper compared to their competitors. Also, I think they have still strong market in USA to Americans who travels to Asia. I think they are adapting by investing in modern and latest fleet like the A350 and B777 and maintaining their good safety record.
@@arturoliriorapadas5490you are correct between Manila to the United States and Canada you are actually better off flying via HKG on CX🇭🇰 as opposed to Flying with PR🇵🇭 it's rival on Hong Kong to Manila for 77 years. CX Business & Economy Class > PR Mabuhay and Fiesta Classes.
I can't tell you how much I miss those years! The world and aviation was still rather calm and peaceful, compared to the turmoil today.
