That footage is now 29 years old as of today, the 28th of April 2023.
I am so glad to see my former ISTC colleague again in the beginning and the end of video. She is such a kind and pretty lady.
LOL - telecheck and fax check-in! Now with online check-in, it's hard to imagine what things were like back in the 1990s.
Now things are inverted. Then this 'convenient' check-in method was available only to first/business class passengers whereas economy class had to go through the 'full' check-in procedure. Now especially in Europe, only first/business class passengers get the option to go through a 'full' check-in procedure and economy class passengers are expected to complete most of the check-in remotely or through a kiosk.
Go to Japan, as of 2020 most businesses still use fax. That's actually one of the big issues with stay-at-home orders during COVID because workers don't have access to fax machines while at home.
@@Avantime I honestly wonder how Japan was able to advance from the ruins of WW2. They're so rigid and resistant to change! I can't tell you the number of times I've felt like pulling my hair at the rigidity of my Japanese employer.
@@paololim171 I fly on Alaska Airlines in the U.S. and if you check a bag in (even in Basic Economy) you still have your documents checked at the counter. However, I imagine that soon 90% of airports will have fully automated self-check bags.
Kai tak....this is a fucking CLASSIC
I miss Kai Tak Airport 😭
So fascinating to see what my city looked like before I was born!
@@bills7295ahh... yes - inr of the most strangest buildings ever - and may I say - strange even for Hong Kong standards ...
It was a different place. Vibrant, hopeful (albeit anxious about an uncertain future), sophisticated. I miss it a lot.
The good old days
I remember watching this videp inflight from tokyo to kai tak when i was 9
I loved aviation as a boy. Thanks for uploading.
The taxi same as today, crazy 🤪
The H.K taxi was never reality yodatwd much if at all after about that time styling wis3- but Engines are currently the petrol/LPG powered 2.4 sohc only Toyota engine popular in the vehicles for the last 15 going on 20 years...
This is great classic nostalgia video, thousand thumbs up 👍 👍 👍
Remember this so well! Excellent flashback

The faxcheck number is one hell of a coincidence
A e s t h e t i c
The telephone numbers and fax numbers are hilarious.
Typical Chinese thinking- 747(Boeing747 aircraft)
then 18888 -typically Chinese superstition...
Thanks for refreshing my memory
Hong Kong taxis look just the same compared to these days
Not really; this is the previous model of Toyota Crown Comfort. Only one of these taxis is still in service today, driven by a man who distrusts the newer model so much that he keeps a spare engine in his apartment in case his current one breaks down.
@@passengersplaceso he preferred the 2.0 instead of the next gen 2.4 Toyota engines?
@@kenlee-97 He has a diesel taxi; it's the new LPG motor that he distrusts. Or perhaps I should say "had" since there are rumors that he is retired now.

Weight of checked luggage in metric, dimensions of hand luggage in inches. Makes sense. 😆

Just before the revamp in Brushwing.
I was confused by the British accent until I remembered this video was from 1994.
check-in by fax
Fantastic heritage video. But it contains high pitched noise aka "The Sound Adults Can't Hear" which hurts my ears. Please do something against that noise.
Did they customize each landing video to their destination? Or just for Kai Tak?
I would think this is only for Kai Tak, their home airport. Airlines usually have these kind of videos only for their home airports
It wouldn't have surprised me if they had several more of these for important airports like Heathrow. East Asian carriers earned their reputation through thoughtful things like this.
Now, what would have been really cool is if they turned the inflight magazine in the seat pocket to the side of the language of each passenger before the flight; Mandarin or English. It would required the double language style where you turn the magazine upside down and flip it over and you have another cover in the different language and can then read it as normal. Of course it wouldn't be easy for them to know what language each passenger spoke.
Most airlines of this era would have one video for each major hub or focus city. You can find United's on the FrienldySKy channel.
Who can tell me which aircraft did they fly during that time to America or Canada?
Marco, Polo where the f**k is my Business class seat row!
Fax check please
