I'm so thankful for Chopin Institute for streaming the entire competition live. I'll never forget the 3 weeks I spent with everyone watching this exceptional competition.
Same with me. It starts on my birthday, it was the best birthday ever for sure! Congratulations to all the finalists, especially the prize winners. Hopefully I'll be in warsaw in 2020, if not they don't let me play then I will be there to watch :)

맞아요. 제 아무리 재능이 있다해도 상상초월의 집중과 노력없이는 절대 안되는 악기연주...음악, 예술의 세계. 삶의 여러 체험들과 다양한 공부들을 통해 더 깊은 영혼의 소리를 담아내는 거장이 되기를 기원하게 되네요.

6년이나 지난 지금 봐도 왜 이렇게 눈물이 나는지 모르겠네요. 6년전 조성진이라는 피아니스트를 알고 난 후 그의 음악으로 위로와 감동을 받은 많은 순간들이 생각나고, 저 자리에 오르기까지 얼마나 많은 수고와 노력이 있었을까 생각도 나고....

All of the rounds Cho was head and shoulder above the rest, indeed.
He was the only one to deserve the gold and be prepared for entering the market as a concert artist.

음악계가 제일심해요 ㅋㅋㅋ 가장ㄱ권위있는피아노대회에서도 이지랄하는데 앞에 루콩이랑 차콩에서 차콩은 그렇다쳐도 루콩은씨발 길가는개가 들어도 조성진이1등인데 3등하고 ㅋㅋ 차콩은 오케스트라가 실수 존나해대고 쇼팽은 조성진이 너무압도적이라 1등햇긴햇는데 그래도 프랑스정신병자할배탱이가1점줘서 아믈랭이랑 5점차이나서 위험할뻔함 ㅋㅋ
이번에 김수연 결선 못간것만봐도 답 나오죠 아무리 잘해도 돈 낸 국가에 더 배정을 해주니 어이없죠
결과론적으로 그런 악역이 있었으니 주연이 빛나네요.

저는 클래식쪽은 잘 몰라도 피아노는 정말 좋아하는데 유투브보다 한국인이 우승했다길래 웬일이야..하고 들었는데 뿅가서 그대로 다운받았어요. 들을때마다 소리가 아름다워서 행복합니다 ㅠㅠ 얼마나 노력을하면 이런소리가 날까 싶기도하네요 ㄷㄷ
김연수 노력도 중요하지만 천재이어야 우승 겨우할까 말까 입니다. 아이미 코바야시 봐여. 4살때 벌써 쇼팽 즉흥곡 다 뗀 천재였어요. 유튜브의 스타이었죠.

Mr. Cho is of course an amazing pianist and a great musician. So is Mr. Richard-Hamelin. But in all these years after the competition I found myself coming back to Ms. Liu's performances. Trying to find more of her playing. Listening to her again and again. Maybe that's the great thing about these competitions; it's not about who is "better", but all these wonderful souls communicate with you in the most beautiful way and then you can find a voice that you feel closer to. A voice that expresses your feelings better than the others. Congratulations to all of them.

Totally agree. And how could they not award the best performance of a concerto to Kate Liu? Martha Argerich's Chopin concertos are still in my mind the best ever, but Kate's version in the competition was also super good!

I just watched all her videos again the other day. She's just unforgettable and phenomenal.
I am stunned by the score that Mr. Philippe Entremont has adjudicated One !! -- Not the ranking number, but the score out of 1-10 scale.
It would have been no issue, if Cho messed up and deserves it.
However, all the rest of 16 judges have given him the score average 9, multiple judges gave Cho the perfect score 10.
This is a malicious and very unprofessional mindset as a musician, and he is no longer great musician or professional, at least disrespectful, if he was ever respected.
Mr. Philippe Entremont's dishonest grading should be seriously examined and allow the board of the jury of the same competition to force his disqualification from such world renown competitions like "International Chopin Piano Competition"
Shame on you Mr. Philippe Entremont, and you should feel the shame and sorry for all the music lovers you have fooled around with in the past.
However, this made the Cho performance even greater and more valuable and well-deserved, to still win the competition.

Could not have been put to the point more succinctly. Such a pettiness in such a grand scale competition.

Many thanks to the entire Chopin Institute UA-cam team for the complete coverage and live-streaming. It was actually a life-changing experience for me, seriously. Even though it was a competition, I got to hear some of the best Chopin ever played. I've watched some other international competitions before, but don't know if they can top this. Congrats to Seong-jin Cho, Charles-Richard Hamelin, and Kate Liu for earning top 3 prizes, also to Eric Lu, Tony Yang, and Dimitry Shishkin! This competition made me love Chopin more than I already do. We look forward to more again in 2020!! And, hopefully pianists like Krzysztof Ksiazek and Tiffany Poon would be able to get another shot!

A far superior competition than Moscow's, Tchaikovsky Competition. Free from soviet policy and control. Streaming it live is quite commendable. The announcer learned the right pronunciation of the winner's names. My sincere compliments to Chopin Institute

너무 압도적이라 3등, 2등.....어? 설마...하지만 역시나 였다. ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ.... 토끼같은 성진군 달에 올라 세계를 향해 맘껏 웃음 주기를 바란다. 프랑크풀트 알테 오퍼에서의 연주회 정말 환상적이었어요.. ^ _ ^

Mr. Philippe Entremont gives the only "1" mark to Cho in a sea of 8s, 9s, and even a 10 mark from other jurors. Mr. Entremont has earned his place in the jury but I'm very, very glad others thought highly enough of Cho's play that he overcame the (ridiculously) low mark from Mr. Entremont.
It makes one wonder if this ridiculously low mark is a mere result of poor judgment or if jealousy or personal grudges toward the pianist or his teacher (Michel Beroff) plays a part in this....

@@pianoplaynight The score got ignored due to the system - outlier scores are removed. The algorithm calculates the avg of all scores, then removes outlier scores of > +/- 2.5. Then avg is recalculated until a fixed point is reached.
He was the best one, period!

Watching this video again and again. Amongst watching the video, I kept thinking about the Mr.Philippe Entremont : He should not be a chopin juror again. It's evident that he lost his spirit of fairness as juror, so Mr entremont should be exiled from the position of juror in order to re-establish and preserve the honor and glory of the Chopin International Competition!!
it was the... memorable colorful competition with so many 'GREAT' and 'DIFEERENT' voices of competitors.
Liu, Richard-Hamelin, and Cho were all TOO great and showed very solid and unshaking performances.
The three were all 'winners' level at third-round.
Richard-Hamelin's playing was likely everyone's taste with very trendy and chic
Liu's playing was feather-light sophisticated and breath-taking
Cho's playing was strong and deep
I believe Cho won the competition because his concerto were a bit more suitable for the final.
17th Chopin competition 2015 was the way more 'fun' and 'super rookies'
and I cannot believe Chopin Institute now allows everyone in the world to be able to see the competition LIVE ...
So Thankful that I can listen Cho's Polonaise, Richard-Hamelin's Sonata, Liu's Mazurka in pajamas in my bed before going to bed ... lol
Oh yeah, the sound masters of this channel and Poland are more than geniuses.
My cheap apple earphone gives better quality classical music sound than being an audience at Carnegie Hall in a bad seat location ..

Oh my god the cameras LOOOOOOOOol.... on a serious note... well done to all of them. They really did well. When I heard them calling the names I remember when I was a kid and I used to compete for nationals... I feel like throwing up just hearing calling names cuz it was so nerve wrecking and it was actually one of the reasons I faked multiple stomachaches to stop competing. It's such a shame cuz I begged my parents to stop playing for a while in school and I phased in and out of it. I never functioned well under stress... I never did and I never do even now in my 30s... but really really kudos to these young people for doing a marvelous job.

Quite a shame Entremont´s behaviour. He obviously tried to manipulate the results. There is no possible criterium that would allow him in true honesty to give a "1" to the final performance. Except, perhaps, envy...
+Luis Cruz jealousy and rivalry with the Cho's French teacher, his colleague, got the old man.
I heard it was about the power struggle, so basically it was the personal feelings, not the professional assessment, were the based on the absurd score. If Cho were to win, his French teacher, Beroff would have more power with prominent reputation, and such situation will be very disadvantage for PE. Thus the absurdly low score to prevent Cho from winning. Well, the old man lost big time-- his reputation and to Cho.

I doubt he'll be invited to judge again next Chopin Competition. People like him should never judge any competitions. Political/personal feelings can play majorly in competitions like this, but thank goodness that the scores are now transparent so the public can see the results. Anyway, PE, aka the modern-day Salieri, gave Cho a pass in the 1st stage, but I have feelings that he most likely founded out about Cho was a student of Beroff(and I don't know the exact relationship with the two, but clearly it seems to me PE detests the French professor. LOL) during this time and so starting Stage 2, PE was doing everything he could to prevent Cho from winning the competition by giving him the lowest possible scores, even NO when the rest gave him all YES's, and the ridiculous 1 when the rest other judges gave him mostly 9's. Remember the Modern-Day Salieri. LOL
