1995 working at Minneapolis Auto Auction, one day I got in a Chrysler minivan for a jump start. I didn’t know that any of them were built with a manual and I assumed it was an automatic. The upright portable jump starter and two older guys were in front of the van. I turned the key and the van jumped forward, startling everyone including me. The two guys in front of it got mad at me.
My mom had one of these (automatic). I still remember our 6th grade field trip with classmates. The funny thing, the ride in the van was more memorable than where we went!
A lot of the manual transmission parts on this van are from a 1992 Voyager I had for a while until the engine failed. I helped my buddy do this swap haha.
My parents bought an 89 voyager in 1992. I was born in 1995 and they brought me home from the hospital in it. They kept it until 1998. I still can remember it. I remember I would always play with the Chrysler logo on the hood. I’m surprised I didn’t break it off lol
My dad walked into a Plymouth dealer in 1993 and said "Give me that one". The dealer was excited to get the base SWB Voyager off the lot. It was white with blue interior. Classy AF. I would have had to learn to drive that turd if my sister didn't crash it.
Hello from Thailand.. seeing your review this van brings so many fond memories. Back in the early till mid 1990's I would get to go visit relatives in the US during our Thai summer breaks and one of my aunts had a 1988 Plymouth Grand Voyager that I got to ride during our road trip all over Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and BC if I had the Canadian Visa. Then one summer my aunt traded it in for a (used) 1992 Grand Voyager, which I also got to ride everywhere. Ten years later I went back to the US for grad school and it was my first time buying a car in the US, I got a 10-yr old Dodge Caravan (1995) and that was like a shuttle van for the Thai undergrad students at my university. I drove them to Costco and Chinese buffet and all around North Carolina and Virginja. Fun times! Reliable and reasonably affordable to run and maintain .
These were among the greatest road trip vehicles ever known to mankind And I would definitely pick nearly any minivan of the 80s-90s-2000s over not only any of the few new minivans still being made today, but over pretty much any vehicles ever made for a multiple hour trip to anywhere. Caravans, Astros, Aerostars, Windstars, GM dustbusters, and in later years of course Siennas and the such Roomy, soft and squishy seats, room to move around, quiet and smoother riding than nearly anything sold today...what more could you want? Sure they were anything but fast, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but no unnecessary distractions and all the charm and character that is pretty much not even a thing in new vehicles today There were more like members of the family rather than vehicles These will always hold very special places in the hearts of us that grew up in these ❤
I love those old Plymouth Voyagers, I have a $200 1996 Plymouth Voyager base model! Everywhere I go people tell me this van brings back so many memories!
I wish I could show you my family's 1992 Plymouth Sundance. It's in almost perfect condition. It has some scrapes and dings from over the years owning it. My dad bought it back in 1999 for $1,000. He brought it to Mexico because that's where we used to live. We moved to the US and left the car in Mexico. Every December we go to Mexico and every single time it starts right up. I've had some people offering money to sell it to them because it's in that perfect condition and you don't see those anymore. You still see a few 90s cars still roaming Mexico but most of them are already beat up and dusted.
My dad bought a new teal '91 Grand Voyager through a relative for the family when I was a kid. It had the 3.3L V6 and A/C in the back. It was the family vehicle for 9 years, and we had many nice road trips in it. Comfortable yet supportive seats you could sleep on that simply don't exist in modern cars. It was even used to pull a bass boat before my dad bought a Ranger. Probably not surprising that the transmission went out, as was typical of them, and it needed engine repairs. It's a mystery why he chose the Plymouth over the Chrysler or Dodge, because as far as I could tell they only had different grills.
When I was a kid my aunt had one of these and all I remember is getting dizzy in the car because it had an exhaust leak. It wasn't even old at the time! 😲 In fact it was nearly new and I don't remember it being as basic as it is in your review, lol! Life was super simple back then!
I Owned A 92' Bought It For Next To Nothing In 99' Took Out The Back Seats,. Used It To Move Into My Current Home, Basically Used It Like A Truck! Sold It For More Than I Paid For It! I Have Considered Owning Another One. Great Vehicle Thanks For Posting This Report 👍👍👍👍
YES! our first family vehicle was a Plymouth Voyager. It was a ‘99 voyager but still the same name. I would like to see a review on this channel of a later Voyager or Dodge Caravan from the late 90s
My mom's 1985 Voyager was bulletproof never broke down even on its way to getting traded in on a piece of shit Chevy lumina It never left a stranded Long lived the Plymouth Voyager!
I owned a 1981 Ford E150 windowless cargo van with a 300 cu. in. inline 6 cylinder engine, that had a 4 or 5 speed manual transmission, it was a 'pig' to master as the shifter was 'way' back to where it normally would be, but I did master it. This model of the E150 was a rarity from what I gather.
I think this is your best review yet! I grew up in the back of one of these vans. I went on so many family vacations in it and like you said saw a lot of new places for the first time in a voyager. I also learned to drive on my fathers high top grand voyager. I will forever be greatful to these vans because of what they represented, honest middle class families. Again fantastic review man! Thank you for the nostalgia!😊
My aunt and uncle had a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that they bought brand new, and owned for 10 years. Because it spent its whole life in California, it didn’t succumb to rust. My uncle did not want power windows and ordered it with crank windows. The van did have A/C, cruise, tilt, stereo cassette, and 2nd row captain’s chairs. Despite not having power windows, it had power mirrors and I believe power locks. They put over 180K miles on that van in 10 years, and both of their daughters learned to drive in it. They sold it in 2004 when the A/C quit working, because the van wasn’t worth a whole hell of a lot of money at that point, and it was going to cost a fortune to fix the A/C.
I saw a lot of things through the back of one of these but ours were always thrid gens and almost all of them had captains chairs in the middle row with the bench in the rear.
Converted a 1989 V6 Grand Carvan automatic minivan to 2.5L turbo with Air to Water intercooling with manual 5 speed. Raised the shifter higher. LOL headliner looks just like yours. Enjoyed your review.
4:41 , Ho yeeeeees I love these radio cassette stuff, with the joystick balance left right front rear simple and fast to use. Equalizer, tape and CD : D Wow !
5:08 - This van says Front Wheel Drive but there was also an All Wheel Drive version. Guess something to remind you if you had a fancy model or not lol
i fondly remember riding in the back of the dodge caravan / Plymouth voyager as a kid. my parents didnt have one but my aunt and 5 other friends moms had one. i dont ever remember seeing a manual!
Being born in 1989 I definitely grew up around a lot of these. And my father always had a Dodge and bought a new 93 Intrepid ES then a 96 ES and then an 02 R/T all new and gave me the candy apple red metallic 96 ES when i was 12 and then the Inferno red pearl 02 R/T later on. And a few years ago i had a silver 02 300M special and swapped the fake cf trim for the genuine california walnut wood and half wood wheel from an 01 luxury package. Deffinitely know the warm 90s feeling very well and also still love it. I still get excited when i see a 1st gen LH car on the road
My parents had a '91 Dodge Caravan. I remember wondering why it had the Chrysler hood ornament if it was a Dodge. Ultimately they had to get the transmission replaced after my mom got stuck with the automatic getting stuck in first gear. Next car was a '98 Plymouth Voyager
I love a manual anything. I'm surprised to see the shifter in a relatively normal place. I know on the Dodge B vans (the Ram Vans for those who aren't familiar, like the ones in Home Alone) had the shifters practically behind the two front seats.
I didn’t road-trip in any Chrysler my grandfather was a ford guy so the Taurus wagon was my childhood in a nutshell…I had one but it kept overheating and I had to let it go…great review
It should be the other way around, Manual mirrors and auto windows. Most of the time I assume the same person would be driving it and their spouse their own vehicle so you don't have to move the mirrors too often. But, rolling down another window or a surprise storm mid-trip is a real pain. I don't know if the one sliding door was for safety, because when vans got 2 rear doors that was advertised as being for safety. If a T-bone crash happened, you could still get out on the other side. With this van, if it got T-boned on the right, you had to maneuver the baby through the front driver's door or tailgate. Its nice how simple it is to drive though. Everything is right there without going through infotainment menus for basic things like HVAC. Heck, with this 100% manual design you don't have to worry about bulbs at all because the mode you're in is depressed.
i grew up in this even tho im born in 2010 lol. dad had a 1991 chrysler voyager 2.5 manual base model, no AC, no power mirrors i dont even think it had one of those trim names on the trunk. gray interior...
Yeah my grandmother had a 1995 Plymouth Voyager brought used back less than a week before the September 11th attacks. and had owned it for almost 5 years and had many issues with the automatic transmission during the last few years of ownership and finally decided to let it go. So my parents hauled it to the scrap yard and grandma used whatever the scrap value was towards a down-payment on a 2003 Dodge Caravan
i'm just watching the TOM CRUISE'S movie "War of Worlds" and he drives a CHRYSLER or a PLYMOUTH VOYAGER... and i see that has the THIRD ROW ROLLING DOWN WINDOWS ... ¿¿ does the CARAVAN or the VOYAGER comes with that feature ???? ¿¿¿ or is just a movie made tune minivan ??? or did you know if it's possible to make that conversion ???
8:27 - This isn't fair. For one, compare it to the model it replaced, which was quite homely. Then, look at Ford and GM. Ford didn't have a minivan when this debuted, and the Aerostar was hideous. GM went bizarre with its U bodies. This was a handsome van, light years ahead of its predecessor's design and comfortably ahead of the peers.
As a 17 year old right now this is a cool van, my garbage 2008 Toyota HiAce is so uncool it’s ugly and old and bare bones but I just these old boxy Chrysler vans especially the first gen minivans
Jesus died for us all, and rose from the grave to defeat death, so we can have eternal life. please give your lives to him, and repent, he loves you!🙏🙏❤️
I love these old Plymouth Voyagers. Everytime I see these it makes me think of the Black Keys Album cover.

Kmsl… they should’ve got mad. Should’ve just simply ask if you knew about manual
My mom had one of these (automatic). I still remember our 6th grade field trip with classmates. The funny thing, the ride in the van was more memorable than where we went!
The early 2010s Mazda 5 came with a manual. It was a pretty miniature minivan, but came with 3 rows and sliding doors, so I’d say it counts
A lot of the manual transmission parts on this van are from a 1992 Voyager I had for a while until the engine failed. I helped my buddy do this swap haha.
Thats right man
Was a good time! I miss wrenching on stuff sometimes.

My buddies always messed around with the hood ornament on my 1996 Plymouth Voyager.
My dad walked into a Plymouth dealer in 1993 and said "Give me that one". The dealer was excited to get the base SWB Voyager off the lot. It was white with blue interior. Classy AF. I would have had to learn to drive that turd if my sister didn't crash it.

My parents had an Astro when I was a kid. Drove to Florida a couple times in it. Damn that brings back memories.
My family took this one all the way to Yellowstone it was awesome

Man that takes me back! That was our family truckster, I spent many times trapped in a car seat in the back of that van.
My grandparents owned an 89 Voyager. Absolutely no room in the third row seat. 😊
My favorite van is a 1990 Dodge Caravan; light blue and wood grain side paneling and polished and wood grained interior. ❤ (V6, 3spd Auto)

we had one of these - having no sliding door on the left side was ridiculous - very difficult to load people and stuff

we have a 98' but it its totaled from sitting, the engine is not ceased but the automatic transition is dead, i wish it was a manual

I had a Dodge Daytona with this exact same powertrain combo. It was fun to drive the crap out of😂. And the seats were like a pillowy cloud.
Its been a pleasure Zack! 🤙🤙
I wouldn't mind finding one of the V6 models with a 5 speed manual. That might actually be amusingly zippy.
From what I am reading, I don't think they did release a manual V6 in this generation of van.
@@colinschmitz8297 They did not. The fact the manual was offered at all was amazing itself!

I have 95 and 93 2,5 L manual :) european versions : ) . I love them.
Quality carpets, a hall mark if 90s cars.
i love how rare AMERICAN manual minivans are, yet in germany it's common af.
The original buyers knew what they were doing, the opted for a 3-pedal van when they found out how bad the Ultradrive was.
i had a 1991 dodge sprit similar steering wheel. I've noticed those vans one sliding door strange thing. awd be cool.
Chrysler refreshed its minivans for the 1991 model year. They had introduced a new problematic automatic tranmission

What a nightmare haha but that is just my opinion. I would not mind that generation but it has to be a well kept one and fully equipped.
I had a manual minivan mine was a 1985 it had a 2.2 in it

I have a 1994 town and country all wheel drive if you’d like to review it I’m located in Dayton Ohio.
My father had a 1986 Dodge Caravan when I was a kid
