- Army of Darkness (1992) First Time Watching Movie Reaction, Review, and Commentary for JL. Many moments of relief that this is WAY more comedic than gory and many moments realizing why Ash is an all time hero were had.

Do you prefer The Evil Dead (Horror), Evil Dead 2 (Horror/Comedy) or Army of Darkness (Comedy) best?
The original trilogy is great.
Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
All 3 are dope but my favorite is Evil Dead 2 because it's funny but still has the gore like the 1st one.
Army of Darkness, Evil Dead 2, and then the og Evil Dead.
Evil Dead 2, AoD, ED 1. Also I know somewhere out there is a fan cut that properly combines all 3 films.
AoD
This will be one of many comments asking this, but please do Ash Vs Evil Dead.
Evil Dead sets the horror, Evil Dead 2 sets the comedy, Army of Darkness sets up Ash's character and Ash Vs Evil Dead puts them all together making one of the greatest TV series ever made.
Thanks for the awesome uploads.
Yesss luvvvv it!
Ash vs Evil Dead is amazing by expanding upon every aspect of the three movies and giving the series depth.
Yes Please 🙏🏻
Since only 30 min episodes he could do like 4 to 6 episodes a reaction so like a movie too.
Yes agreed great series. As much as I love the movies I think the series is probably better.
Bruce Campbell is forever the greatest.
yes I completely agree 😂

This was my first introduction to Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. My mom said I couldn’t see it since it was rated R. A friend and I bought tickets to a different movie and snuck into Army of Darkness. Changed my life forever!
If you liked this then I recommend Bubba Hotep and My Name is Bruce. He plays Elvis in a retirement home who has to fight an evil mummy. In My Name is Bruce he plays himself and gets drug into a fight with evil because the townsfolk thinks he is the Ash Williams from the movies.
LOVED both of those movies!!
Bubba hotep is so damn good
Old Elvis fights alongside JFK, who is black (the FBI had to do a whole body tattoo to conceal him from CIA assassins when they changed his identity)
"Name's Ash... Housewares" 😎
"Sally For!...Sally For!...sally forth."
Gets me every time! 😂
Same. That scene is the best.
yes. best part. plus flaying the flute.
@@tallicafan85 Flutes with no lips and bagpipes with no lungs 🤣🤣🤣
Why aren't they playing string instruments 🤔
My name is Ash.
And this.... Is my BOOMSTICK!
Duke Nuke'm and Ash. The "Hail to the king baby" duo!
Duke got it from AOD.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but this is my favorite of the original 3. It was so mad and I love it
Popular opinion, my favorite out of the trilogy too
Because it's pure chaos with ensuing hilarity. But also, Ash is a superhero (kinda) in this one. A reluctant superhero for sure, but a superhero.
Plus, the lines in here are gold
Mostly, though. It's Fun. You can tell they had fun making it just so we could join in.
My favorite of the three without a doubt
PS. And there's something MST3K about it. Can't get any better than that
@@LA_HA that's great to know
@@Princess_Mononoke558 Why is it your favorite? Is it the humor? The story? Ash? Or something else?
What do you think about it?
This might be a new record for " shut the fuck up's" 😂
Bruce Campbell AKA Ash. LEGEND.
"This is my boomstick"
"Give me some sugar baby"
"Hail to the king, baby"
Groovy!
Rumor was that the studio more or less demanded another sequel, but Sam Raimi really didn't want to do it. When he saw the budget, he more or less said Eff it, let's go so far over the top and spend every dime they approve...and he gave us Army of Darkness!
In this case, the studio was right. They may not have known what exactly they were right about at the time, but they were right.
Ive not heard so many 'Shut the Fxck Up's from J in a long time. 😂
I love this movie, I watch it every Halloween. "Yo, she bitch....let's go!"
Nobody takes a beating like Ash.
His ability to take damage is somewhere between John Wick and Deadpool. 😂
To be fair, he’s not bad at giving a beating as well.
John Wick, JJ McQuaid, and John McClaine could each give Ash a run for his money for durability testing.
Glad to see you watched the superior edit JL.
AoD was a pretty regular rewatch for me. It's a great blend of medieval action, monster mayhem, and slapstick hilarity. The voice over for the skeletons always has me laughing through the ending. How do skeletons play a flute with no lips?! 🤣🤣🤣
"Let's get the hell out of here!!!"
The end of the original story is actually the Ash vs Evil Dead series that takes place 30 years after the movie. Definitely my favorite section of the original storyline and I highly recommend it, even if it's not for youtube
"Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun."
Best line in the movie! 😎
Fun Fact: S-Mart is a teal chain of grocery stores in Mexico.
Ted Raimi Cameos Fact: The cowardly warrior who doesn't want to die, the man who shouts "you can count on my steel" to Ash (Bruce Campbell), the swordsman with an eye-patch, and the S-Mart store clerk are all the same man.
Automobile Fact: During filming the Oldsmobile Delta 88 falling out of the sky was shot twice. During the first attempt, the 25-ton crane lifting the car failed due to mechanical problems and toppled over the edge of a cliff at the quarry location where filming was taking place. Fortunately, no injuries occurred because the crane operator jumped from the cab before the crane went over the edge. Days later a larger 80-ton crane was brought in to remove the damaged crane and re-shoot the car drop. In the final edit, elements of the re-shoot as well as footage from the end of Evil Dead II (1987) were used.
It's ridiculous but for some reason kinda funny the rights issues this franchise went through haha
best line hands down! :D
My favorite badass line in this movie is. “Good. Bad. I’m the guy with the gun.”
I hated the change they did with the director's cut, destroyed one of the best lines ever.
I ain't that good
@@ianmac4595 You're right. That version ain't that good.
@@vladyvhv9579 that was the line in the version I had.
Hail to the King baby!
"Well hello Mr. Fancy Pants! I got news for you, pal. You ain't leading but two things right now. Jack and shit, and Jack left town!"
Typical Sam Raimi foolishness 😂
15:37 the "goody little 2 shoes" bit was something my family quoted all the time. One of our favorite movies when I was growing up😂
@JL You laughed at all the best parts :) and your commentary is always funny. Thank you for this gem.
Oh he up for a NICE treat! One of my top favorite movies of all time! Not to mention a poster that was the inspiration for Duke Nukem 3D.
4:06
Yes. Yes it is. And that is why we love these movies.
So Glad you loved this, J! This was Bruce Campbell and his buds, the Raimi Brothers (Sam, Ivan, and Ted) finally getting a chance to make their big screen homage to The Three Stooges, who were a major inspiration to the boys if you couldn't tell. But the story doesn't end here. You have to watch the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series to see what happens next! You won't be disappointed!
I love how the OG trilogy progresses.
The first movie is straight horror, with some darkly funny moments sprinkled in; second movie is like the perfect blend of horror and dark comedy; third is just a straight up action-comedy, with some horror elements still there.
It is kind of like tracing Ash's mental breakdown from all the horrible things that are happening to him.
@@Thane36425 yeah, by the time of Army of Darkness he’s practically reached “Joker” level of insanity, to where he actually enjoys fighting the Evil Dead
Freakin' love this movie
All I can say now is...
Bubba Ho-Tep
"LET'S GET THE HELL OUTTA HE-UHH!"
Finally made it to a premier. Let’s see if I can watch it before work calls again.
Bruce Campbell still plays Ash in the Ash vs Evil Dead TV show that was on Starz. It's a good show
You gotta do Ash vs Evil Dead. Thats the conclussion before the remakes.
Ash Vs Evil Dead follows on from this and is awesome.
Hands down one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. So wonderfully silly 🤪 🤣
"Let's get the hell out of here!"
The slapstick skeletons are hilarious!
The way he hits thise high screams when the book is attacking him absolutely kills me every single time. 😆 🤣 😂
They didn’t just lean into the comedy aspect in this one, they bulldozed into it, and I love it.
Bruce Campbell is over the top cool!
Your reaction to Evil Dead 2 was the best 😂 watching you get excited then jump scurred got my guts bubbling 😂😂
I swear if this movie got the PG-13 rating it deserved (the cartoonish violence in this was totally suitable for teens) and the marketing wasn't so terrible, this would have been such a bigger hit than it was.
It's definitely iconic for a reason, and Sam Raimi directs the HELL out of it. Hands down my favorite Bruce Campbell performance (next to his Elvis in Bubba Ho-Tep, another underrated gem).
I saw this as a kid and it was totally fine for me. Even the scares are mild. It really should have been PG13 at least.
@@LordVolkovabsolutely! Ridiculous, over the top fun that damn near anyone can enjoy!
Bubba Ho-tep is so great! I cried at the end lol. I cry at a lot of movies tho
@@Anweleithat flick is honestly legitimately poignant!
Great effects for the year it was made. Can't believe I was 22😮
I am so happy that you watched this. I told you on evil dead 2 that you were in for a treat Whenever you decided to watch army of darkness. I think it’s their best movie as far as comedy goes.
My favorite of the Evil Dead movies, so many great lines, the levels of humor are ramped up, action and that chin! :D Glad you checked it out!
"I guess even dead people like titties...." Quite possibly THE greatest quote in all of the recorded history of human civilization, LOL.
Jors gf Fb morfor gf DJ bf kn mope sh bc moe fb bc NBC CNN moe😊
My favorite actor in one of my favorite movies. I've seen this at midnight showings more than once, big popcorn in one hand, drink in the other, dead-center of the front row. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is that why it's awesome? Absolutely.
Now you gotta watch the TV series, which continues from this one. Ash vs Evil Dead is pretty damn amazing, as it's a nice mix of all 3 styles the movies had. 2 would definitely win my favorite one, but Army wins my heart for it's over use of effects. They literally went all out with this one, and it's definitely the most fun. Great reaction!
I remember renting this on vhs 📼 back in the day
Now ya gotta add the Netflix series Ash vs Evil Dead to the list. Amazing series for those who enjoy the Evil Dead series.
Also, this has to be a record for "STFU" on this channel, J.
Top tier cocaine cabinet. This movie is unapologetically absurd and is amazing for it!
Maniac Cop is a stellar Bruce Campbell 80's horror gem. Its an always moving slasher film with a packed cast, stellar cinematography & a damn solid sequel.
And Robert Zdar's chin!
@@LordVolkova perfect foil for Campbell's chin.
A sequel that committed the same sin as "Congo".
@@Bluesit32 That took me a second. 🤣🤣🤣
We were in college when this came out, and "Gimme some sugar, Baby" was the most successful pick-up line EVER.
02:02 That's Bridget F'n Fonda! 😂
I can watch ED2&Army back2back on a endless loop. I love that Army is one of the most quotable films out there.
J, I see you finally found your Spaceballs shirt, NICE!
Oh man you have to watch the series "Ash vs Evil Dead"!
This is my BOOMSTICK!😂
I say this whenever I'm either going target practicing with my shotgun or when i'm playing a video game with one. lol
On the scale of bada$$ films, "Army of Darkness" rates really high. Way over the top but a ton of fun.
29:20 - well, at least now we know what Achmed The Dead Terrorist was doing for a living before he went to work for Jeff Dunham.
Can't believe you found that shirt! Love It!
The skeletons are the best part of this movie 😂 im glad J liked this one
I know you don't do TV shows, but you gotta check out Ash vs Evil Dead. It is such a treat, and the episodes are shorter than typical TV shows. 20-30 minutes instead of 40-50 minutes.
IMO the show Ash vs Evil Dead is the best of the franchise. Only 30 episodes over 3 seasons, would love to see it on this channel, perhaps part of slasher saturday
So glad you got to this one, I know you'd love it
GROOVY 💯 😎 Hands down Ashley J Williams is the best character ever created. Now you gotta watch the Ash vs. Evil Dead series 3 seasons all of them are GROOVY. Good show bud keep up the terrific work 👌 👏 👍 😀
Gotta watch Bubba Ho-Tep now.
Elvis and JFK battle a soul sucking Mummy in a Southern Nursing home. More Bruce.
This is honestly one of my most favorite movies of all time. I have seen it so many times I can quote each line by memory. This movie is a level of comedy seldom seen LMFAO Thanks for the watch man!
Im 38 and grew up watching these movies on vhs i applauded the quality ur getting to watch these with
Yes ! Great one . Good fun. Love Bruce Campbell . Glad you got to this one ! 💗
There is more to the Ash story with Ash vrs the evil dead. It's a show, you would love it I think. A lot of "shut the fuck up" moments
Ahhhhh so sad I missed the premiere. J slayed this reaction ❤️
I still wish they went with the director's cut alternative ending where Ash messed up and slept an extra century and woke up in the ruins of the future
The actress playing Sheila played Miss Honey in Matilda.
Aw man. No one ever mentions the Bruce Campbell TV show, Brisco County, Jr.
haha
@@LA_HA Because it lasted only 1 season and had a low number of viewers. Which I was one of. His side kick played Sho Nuff the Shogun of Harlem in the Last Dragon.
@@Stuck-n-da-90s Oh, yeah. It did get cancelled early.
I really liked that show. Ash in a western setting. hahaha
Army of darkness is the best 1. Bruce Campbell is awesome. Would love to see you watch the t.v. series he made with sam reimi
Freddy is the only one who has fully used the book to it's fullest
Groovy!
Are you gonna watch Ash Vs Evil Dead series in future?
bro, back in the day we hoped so hard to see an ash vs freddy an jason movie. im still holding out
This is one of my favorite movies....gonna enjoy your reaction as always 🤣🤣
“Klaatu barata niktu” (the spell) is of course a direct quote from “The day the Earth stood still” (50’s B sci-fi movie)
Love the channel you guys make great content
My boi has definitely stepped his game up. He's standing on bidness now.
Awesome reaction of my favorite Evil Dead movie!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
There were talks about doing a Jason vs. Freddy vs. Ash Movie back when FvJ came out. Based off the comics. Too bad they never did it. That would’ve been epic
I wouldn't mind a cartoon version with the actors
One of my favourite movies of all time. Don't get me wrong, the original The Evil Dead can never be topped for me... but in a world where many horror franchises killed themselves off by going too goofy, Army of Darkness somehow absolutely *nailed* it. It also ends the trilogy just... perfectly. Hail to the king, baby!
Man, I've been hoping for this reaction for months. I love this movie. I somehow didn't discover it until a few years ago.
I still haven't seen the other movies in the series.. I didn't even know there were others until a couple of years after I watched Army of Darkness.
First movie: Low-budget horror, Ash is the "final girl".
Second movie: A bit bigger budget, Ash becomes the reluctant hero.
Third movie: Still bigger budget, Ash becomes the absolute Deadite slayer we all know and love.
There really was an S-Mart chain of stores in the early 80's. I worked at the warehouse in Richmond Ky. But it went bankrupt a few years later. A couple of brothers owned it, named Rosen I think
if you ever get to see a Bruce Campbell live show where he shows a movie and discusses it, it is a MUST. I saw him 2 years ago coming out of COVID restrictions and he showed Evil Dead 1 and the stories are hilarious.
There is an alternate ending to this movie which is more like the ending to Evil Dead 2. In the alternate ending Ash seals himself and the wreck of his car in a cave, then settles down to drink the potion; he loses count of how many drops he has taken and takes one too many, and when he awakens he comes out of the cave to find a post apocalyptic ruined city and he screams "I SLEPT TOO LONG!".
Thank you for spoiling it for J.
That is the real ending of the film, not alternate one.
There's a second version of this movie called "Army of Darkness: Bootleg Edition". Changes are minor, save for the ending, which I think Bruce Campbell preferred. They also replaced, "Good, bad...I'm the guy with the gun" with, "I'm not *that* good." Or maybe that was the other way around...
That is he real ending that Sam Raimi made.
I love you! You always put me in a good mood!
Bruce is great! He overacted this role to perfection. Dude's hilarious in this film.
I would suggest a drinking game. Take a shot every time he says "Shut the f*ck up.", but at this rate you'd be dead or in the hospital from alcohol poisoning before the end of the video. 😂
I tried it. After 5 minutes, I think I need to slow down!
This might have the most quotable lines of any movie. One of my favorites.
Oh you got the good ending. In the version I have Ash wakes up in the future when the planet is destroyed
Has he done a reaction to Bubba Hotep? He should. Another good Bruce Campbell movie.
Groovy
This franchise revived that word for modern lexicon.
this will be great , if You like it watch the Series "Ash vs Evil Dead" it´s even more gore and Bruce Campbell is the Goat at being an AHole 🤣
The TV show is amazing too. ❤️
Hello from Stamping Ground Kentucky
You're in charge of JACK and SHIT..😂😂😂
1st movie was horror since he was fresh to it all, 2nd movie he snapped mentally and it caused him to lose a lot of his fear, 3rd movie he's just over it.
Sort of shows how fear can make something seem so much worse than it actually is, 3rd movie really shows how they're actually clowns without the fear and intimidation.
So insanely quotable. I love this movie. My brother and I would watch it all of the time. It's what got us into Evil Dead and more importantly Bruce. 👍
There’s so many great lines in this
