One thing to note from what you said at 11:00 onwards: Music can be dissected and analysed for its musicality and its totally valid, expected and should never be silenced. You're a musician so you're going to do that, and when you immerse yourself in music like I imagine you do, you're gonna want the musicianship to stand out. On the other hand, the people saying that you'll be DEVASTATED by the song are probably not in your camp. The layman I suppose. I for one would have loved for you to experience the impact that it had on others. The song is pretty by the books but there's nothing wrong with that. It hits for other people in crazy ways. Maybe in a different setting it'd hit for you too. I adore this song, but I also think you're valid. I think i'm making a mountain out of a molehill here but I'm kinda just waiting for work to be over so i'm occupying myself. Thank you for reacting to this song though!
For me this song hit at a very down time. Along with the rest of the album. I wasn't expecting to be asked if I was okay and I wasn't. It helped me and will forever hold a spot in my heart. Much like Disturbeds "Hold on to memories" When a song transcends the medium and infiltrates your heart, the technical side doesn't matter.
I have only been listening to Sleep Token for about 6 months (more of a Tool kind of a guy). I reached a VERY DARK place recently and tried taking my life on 11/11/24. I woke up 72 hours later in a psychotic ward. After getting released, I was in the shower and had my I tunes on random and this song just "happened" to come on. Truly opened my eyes (not to say the thoughts have just disappeared), and gave me comfort knowing I'm not ALONE. Don't think you're a bitch (I appreciate and respect an HONEST reaction), but you should realize that not only are songs SUBJECTING, but music is UNIVERSAL and can SPEAK to soooo many people in sooo many different ways!!!!
Great reaction. I think you need to check out Architects "Doomsday" then "Animals" then "Seeing Red" or some of their older stuff. The lead singer has a great screaming voice and an incredible sing/fry scream combination
So, OK. You want to know how to get cymbals crystal clear in the mix? Record all cymbals before hands. Each one of its own, single hits in several manners, with the drummer. And then mix it in as a crystal clear layer whenever needed. So simple. But works... (Wished I knew this one earlier, but learned a while ago, duh!) As of the song .... well ... A bit bland is a good description. I think they are flattened out by the production to reach pop quality anyway, in each song. Dynamics, ya know. Not that much to say. Oh, I will send you a positive example of a song, that I instantly would hold against something like this, it's another genre, so I don't say it here. Where art is MORE art! 🙂 All the best and have a great week, my dear dudette! ❤
Wow that’s a lot of work to get that crisp sound but honestly it was worth it. The drums sound fantastic. I think we can forgive them as up until now the songs have been pretty solid even if they aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Art is art 😄 lovely to see you pop up in the comments my dude ❤️
Good song, cool band. Reminds Me of many metal ballads of years ago. You may also enjoy the song Love You To Death, by Type O Negative. I hope that all is well. Keep up the great work My Fine Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
I read somewhere that the song could be written from Vessel’s mum’s POV…:.watching him struggle over the years Listening to it again after reading that, completely crushed me 💙
@@SoulSingerDiscovers I grew up listening to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, and Angie Stone, so I know a good soul singer when I hear one. The EP is fire, keep it up.
This one really had to grow on me. When you listen to the whole album back to back, I think it comes as quite a relief after Vore & Ascensionism, and that's probably a factor as to why it is so simple (I mean also given the message). Like you said tho, everyone can have their opinions, Are You Really Ok is probably my least favourite on the album, even though I enjoy it. I feel like you're going to hate DYWTYLM as well 😂 Really curious to see (I personally love it, but my best friend despises it hahaha)
This song hits harder when taken in the context of the full album, both emotionally and narratively. As a single it falls flat compared to other Sleep Token songs.
I love yer HONEST and BRICK TO THE SIDE OF THE HEAD opinion. In truth, the song didn't do anything fir me either. I'm no really a big Sleep Token fan anyway, but I do respect what they do. It's no just my cup of Tea. I know the ST fans will be gathering the lynch mob with their pitchforks and torches, but I'm OK with that. I love the fact that yer infectious laughter and 'don't give a fuck' attitude are still intact. But you look very tired. This is not meant as an insult, but just concerned. Please ease yersel back into yer work load. Don't go 'All Guns Blazing' and do too much too soon! P.S. I bought The Sweet P Sessions on Bandcamp the other day. Other music on Bandcamp by yersel is: Devil's Luck - Melisa Kelly and the Smokin Crows I'm The Boss on Jock's Juke Joint Vol. 4 Live at Her Majesty's Pleasure - Melisa Kelly & the Harmless Thieves Is there more?
I'm a crazy Sleep Token fan 😅 No need to call you something bad...I appreciate your honesty I don't listen to that song that much. For me it's the lyrics. I spent a lot of time (two years now) of being into this band and I have looked at a lot of pics from concerts and fan videos and everything. At some point I could not help but notice two very distinct scars on him. On his left forearm and his right forearm. They are from a su*d*de attempt. When I heard that song I thought that it's from the perspective of a caretaker that found him that day. Well....your honesty just make me write my honest reason as to why I don't like it. It feels like it's too much to handle. Feel free to delete this comment btw. If it's too much.
Yeah, it doesn't manage to touch me either. I'd have been surprised if you hadn't called it bland - I would even call it boring. I wouldn't skip it if I was listening to the album, but I would probably be very distracted and not listening much. I think sometimes songs like this can work very well in the context of an album - especially when sandwiched in between two songs that are more intense rhythmically or melodically, or both. But when listened to out of context like this, it doesn't work for me at all. For me, great, emotional lyrics can sometimes elevate a song to a higher level, but it has to start with the music.
Sadly, this song is about the miscarriage of a baby. It's referred to throughout Sleep Tokens music. This song and Chokehold are, in the traditional sense, perfect songs. Edit: I love your accent ❤
That’s very sad. I wonder what the discussion between the writer and the woman who experienced it was like, seeing as it’s so private. Definitely respect the hell out of the band even if this one isn’t for me 👍
Well performed, well produced, well written and just... well, white people seasoning. However, its a song that sits in the same mood and vibe the whole way through, so i can imagine if you are feeling it at any given moment then you could really enjoy the song and soak it in and be impacted by the lyrics.
@@inviz88 oh calm down Betsy! Are you really feeling hate crimed right now? Is this your holocaust? Someone passively mentioning white people seasoning? You poor, poor minority. Imma call up Martha Stewart and start a charity fund raiser in your honor. The world is such a cruel place

I think the topic of the song calls for the simplicity of the music.
You’re most likely right

Yeah I trust that the rest of the album will have some real bangers in it 😊
Gets me every time! So much passion and pain.

Personally I think they made it simple that way to make the message of the song front and center but thats only my opinion 🖤🖤
Yeah I think you’re right but personally I needed just a little more but they are a talented bunch 💪
The drummer is so damn good.

They did a clumsy sparkly 80s power ballad, and still managed to tear my guts out.
And yes, the song is utterly ordinary. Formulaic…writing and production. But still. Oof.
