  • The fleet of Traxxas TRX-4 scale and trail crawlers continues to grow. Along with it is an extensive line of accessories and option parts to improve and customize your TRX4 to make it your own. There are some pretty impressive options on the Traxxas parts lists, but this new accessory may just top them all. We got our hands on the new Traxxas TRX-4 All-Terrain Traxx Set and it’s flat out just a cool new way to experience new types of off-roading. The track set bolts right onto any TRX-4 and may only need some minor body or bumper trimming depending on your vehicles. There are also some important tips to keep in mind when you do run these tracks. We go over everything you need to know about these tracks, installing them and we’ll even show you how they work as we tackle some terrain at a local park.

    • @rcdriver

      I don't think it would be a big issue as long as you are alert while driving in those conditions. If you see a track hang up, don't keep driving, stop and fix it. When I got a rock hung up in the track and it came off center, I kept punching the throttle a bit for testing purposes. It's my job to test it for the viewers so if it broke, it broke. But nothing happened, no damage, no visible scars. Just popped the track on and kept going. Just be good about maintenance afterwards and they should be good to go.

Also, would be great for sand, but being on a beach is more rare than being in the snow. Having said that, I still want them. I just don't see myself swaying the $230 pricetag. @rcdriver  5 років тому +2

      @@rckn-rndlwestvirginiarc4388 I didn't fully install them, just put them up to it. I don't think it's totally necessary, but there may be clearance issues, most likely during articulation. There might be some clicking or worse, hang-ups from the tracks grabbing something. But I think the driver would realize it instantly and stop. Traxxas put in the instructions, some bumper, slider and body trimming may be necessary depending on the kit. With the long arm kit however, I don't believe clearrance is a factor on any of the TRX4 models and therefore no trimming. I can probably do a bit more testing and will try to remember to go into extra detail when I revisit the tracks during my upcoming TRX-4 Sport Project series.

    Good review. Like you said, not really meant for the places you filmed. The real test will come in winter, where I bet they outperform tires (in a video, side by side, hint hint). Not sure what you mean by letting the tires acclimate to the outside temperature. I have always found that warm tires perform best, and the colder they get the worse they grip. Oh, and yeah, pretty expensive for Canadians, who get the most snow, ironically.

Because of the length of the contact patch, it cleared some big gaps and pulled itself over some ledges, but they have their limits and type of rock plays a roll too.

    Pretty cool, but with the lift kit the truck looks weird. Way to much space between the track and the wheel wells.

      Yeah, there's a lot of air under there, but no clearance issues. When I do the TRX-4 Sport series, it will have standard suspension set-up and I'll show the track on it.

    • @rcdriver
      @rcdriver  5 років тому

      Yeah, the mud spilling off the sides was cool. I believe the predator tracks are $120 for just 2, plus you need adapters for your truck for $30. So you're at $270 for a full set of Predators. And there is another brands track set on Ebay for $340. I'm thinking the $230 Traxx are the most reasonable route.

    Spotted in the warning "Lubricate with WD-40" WD-40 isn't actually a true lubricant. WD stands for "water displacing" and its main use is as a solvent or rust dissolver. Not to say this wont help in this case I just hate to see products misunderstood.

    • @PetrolJunkie
      @PetrolJunkie 5 років тому +5

      humboldtef I’d probably use spray silicone, let it dry before a run. Displaces water and it’s an actual lube. WD40 is also a brand, with a variety of products, sometimes I wonder if people forget to specify the product.
