As an American I love the idea of investing into Indian economic power and trade with them. We invested into China hoping they'd start establishing human rights (like freedom of expression, religion, and most importantly democratic elections), in retrospect that was naive. India on the other hand is a democracy and while they like the rest of us have their own issues unlike the PRC/CCP they are economically and socially compatible with the free world. I also respect their drive to be a neutral power all of their own, not part of the US/Russian/Chinese petty squabbles, sure they and Russia have their friendly history, just like they have their rivalry with the PRC; but I hope to see trade ties and social ties strengthen between the US and India.
Unlike the Russians who have had 3 governments in about a century the US is stable, we're across the world and don't try to compete for regional influence either, and many Americans have worked with Indians and respect them. Plus it'd really piss off the PRC and that brings me joy.

Since 2016, the Chinese shipping company Cosco has been the majority stakeholder in the Port of Piraeus. The Greeks were forced by the EU to sell the Port of Piraeus after their debt crisis. It is now the largest port in the eastern Mediterranean, and the seventh largest in Europe.

If we compare freight time utilizing traditional sea freight from Mundra to Pireaus via Suez Canal with planned freight via India Middle East Europe Economic corridor, we are looking at approximate four freight days in savings. This trade network is re-establishing the old Indian Spice route which connected the Indian sub continent to the Roman Empire and historically is of much more significance than "the silk route", as a commercial link between the east and the west. Most of the railway network is already available except Jorden which will be built by the Indian Railways with double stack rail technology and track upgrades coming from the US. The port infrastructure is already available as Mundra , Fujairah, Haifa & Pireaus have the necessary infrastructure for handling and storage of containers. The network will have feeder vessels moving container freight from Mundra to Fujairah and back on the South Asian leg and from Haifa to Pireaus and back on the European leg. Double stack 20 ft container trains will be used for the intermodel shipments and the Americans will be assisting with double stack technology which in use in US since the eighties. The average size feeder vessels involved with the sea freight would be 300 to 500 TEU ( 20 ft containers). Using double stack technology, one intermodal freight train of 200 ¬ 250 cars can be designed to safely carry 400 - 500 double stacked 20 ft containers, capable of operating at average service speed of 75 - 100 Kmph therefore i am sure the container traffic generated will be keeping stevedores busy !

Very good. I always found it totally logical for EU to do business with India. For years we have been doing business with China and they still don’t speak proper English. India is closer and with this new Silk Road it’s much more feasible. India will HAVE to make some changes though. Main thing that tourist undergo in India is the price agreements. A lot of Indians tend to change prices after an agreement is made.

Speculating on the potential economic benefits of the corridors, an empirical study becomes imperative. Initial estimates suggest a 40% reduction in journey times from India to Europe and a 30% decrease in transit costs. However, concerns about potential increases in carriage and compliance costs underscore the need for a comprehensive assessment of its advantages.

No one will try to dump IMEC or BRI. They will try to benefits from both. I even don't think southern and Eastern India will be part of IMEC. They will be part of BRI. It is cheaper to them to go along BRI. Currently Tamil Nadu, Kerala access the market through Sri Lanka. The cost for them will be double if they trying to access market through Dubai. There are many interchanging points. Good should go through at least 4 harbors. Furthermore , dropping goods in Pareaus, will put trade 10 years backwards. The eastern europe is at least 10 years behind the western europe. Better to drop the goods somewhere in France or somewhere in Italy

The G20 summits are often viewed as mechanisms used by countries to deceive their populations. During these events, countries tend to boast about the benefits they've secured for their nations, but in truth, many of these initiatives primarily serve the interests of a select group of industrialists. The majority of people tend to see minimal gains. Until concrete action is taken, I will regard these summits as yet another political maneuver aimed at securing electoral victories.

Is this about Silk Vs Spice?
Time to forget about both and look at them from the utility perspective.
China is already a factory of the world. Manufacturing and trade are the backbone of their economy and the reason behind their success. China is $18B economy boasting $3T in foreign reserve.
For China trade with US, Europe and Middle East are critical.
China's geographic situation is not very favorable for trade with Europe & ME. It makes lot of sense for China to seek alternative routes to Europe & ME due to cost & time benefits as well as strategic consideration to derisk by diversification. This applies exclusively to their road/rail building plans accross the coutries in Central Asia and ME plus CPEC.
India's geographic situation is quite opposite and it is well placed to reach ME and Europe through sea route interms of cost and convenience. Proposed IMEE corridor offers time saving to reach Europe. Cost disadvantage more than offsets the time advantage. At the present volume and level of trade between India and these 2 regions, the existing maritime routes are quite adequate. Any deficiencies that India is facing at present; are of internal origin and related to logistics - port capacity and road/rail etc.
Perhaps when India's economy touches $10T mark with $3T by way of trade it would feel the need to add additional routes to service trade with Europe. That would fall in the time line between 2030 and 2035. Therefore good to start now.
The main connectivity issue for India has been with central Asia and Russia. The IMEC doesn't address this.
The IMEC doesn't challenge BRI and doesn't help in trade with Russia.
The real challenge and threat for India and US comes from China's string of pearls strategy. IMEC is neither a counter nor a better alternative to address that challenge.
The two countries involved in IMEC, UAE and Saudi, are not going to be the major beneficiaries. That leaves Jordan, Israel and Greece all of which have limited scope to exploit this more than the rent earning potential of this project which will be due only after the corridor becomes operative.
European partners in IMEC will not have overwhelming advantage after balancing out time gain advantage over cost disadvantage.
Corridor is not just about transportation of goods. It is about connectivity which means ability to channel movements of goods as well as energy and communication lines. It is also about strategic derisking by means of creating alternatives. It can also be the means of facilitating the integration of chain of economies which are not very involved in trade etc due to historical and political reasons. Chances of success for any given corridor will be more based on solving the risk perceptions and on opportunities for aligning trade and strategic interests that it will create for countries rather than cost and time considerations alone.
Middle Eastern giant economies have identified the need to establish infrastructure, services & soft economy before oil gets exhausted. They have vision to transform into a sustainable global economic hub. They want to offer capital and connectivity to attract and support global commerce. They are willing to be partners in creating and servicing the regional network of economic corridors. These networks have commerce, communication and strategic potential to integrate the economies worldwide.
In the current assessment the urgency for the newly proposed corridor is not overwhelming. It is more about creating distraction for China's BRI.
Interesting days ahead. Good time to speculate. 😴

This IMEEC route will benefit only India in South Asia/South-East Asia, USE-Saudi-Israel in West Asia and some Countries in Europe and Africa is out of all equation. Then how come it is even compared to China’s BRI where 139 countries are signatories of BRI project with $1.9 trillions.

India Middle East European economic corridor will be a highly successful corridor. This corridor is formed with the betterment in trade and commerce of all the countries involved and also for the region. Chinese belt and road initiative was with China's self-interest in mind. So the Indian Middle East corridor will perform much better than the Chinese corridor.

Now 4 months later, any milestone achieved for this IMEC?
Indians just talk and talk and talk. Change topic. And talk and talk and talk. They talk so much that they forget what they talk about before. And I bet that in couple years, they will come up with the SAME IMEC IDEA, give it a new acronym and call it an exciting new project. And then they will talk and talk and talk. Repeat forever.

All this hard work for nothing as the port of Piaeus is owned by China. So you have to dock in Chines (Piaeus) port for a pretty sum each and every time. If the idea was to make China rich Congratulation you will achieve that. 🤣😂😅Also if I were you I would not slam China that much as you may have nowhere to dock. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Guys, this is big give away to Adani ports....Modi went to Greece after BRICS for Greece ports including Piraeus and Alexandroupolis....They knew chinese shipping giant COSCO is ahead in the game and owns stakes in major ports all over world including Greece...Haifa port is also under Adani...since 2017 benjamin netanyahu Modi private beach talk...in the name of cheaper cost and challenging BRI, they might be looting money....we have heard about NRI Vinod Adani but they also uncovered that few Chinese billionaires and business men are involved with Adani.... unless Congress or some other party comes to power....the world will not know much.... instead of Chinese looting indians, we will be mostly having Adanis looting Indians...plus Chinese will have full access to our data anyways....This is not something to cheer for 100 percent...Be careful what we wish for !!
