@@hydorah MG100FX. It randomly goes quiet, overdrive squeals. Works ok in clean channel with multi effects

@@40sndFan Oh right! Sorry! So the all problems are only apparent on the drive channel? All OK otherwise?

I think you really needed to replace that fan, they are very cheap, it's not worth trying to lubricate them as the bearings will be on their way out. I've had a MG 100 HDFX for years, it has never let me down and it sounds very good for what it is. Probably my most used amp, I've got a couple of valve amps and two other solid state Marshalls, but the MG is always the one I go back to. Once you learn how to dial it in you can get some great tones from it.

Yeah it's a cool amp. That's fan's still going strong you know! Lubricating it sorted it right out

I have three of those heads! So does my buddy, we gigged 3 or 4 of these cabs, depending, and 3 heads, each side of stage!

Answer a question for me (if you can).......why is there an mg 100 dfx main board in an mg 100 "HDFX" chassis ???? I recently bought this similar amp from a private seller and found that the channel selection switch is not functioning correctly. After removing the amp from the cabinet, I found that the main board was not designated as a "mg100hdfx" but a "mg100DFX" instead.
Do you have any idea why Marshall would have done this? Thanks

Circuit-wise, They are 100% the same amp, just the box is different. So the same board is in the combos and the heads

'HDFX' stands for 'HeadDFX', the only difference is this is an amp head and the DFX is a combo. Circuit boards are exactly the same, so no issues there.

I have a mg100hdfx actualy a pair of em but the master volume is very scratchy, would you suggest blowing it out first with aircan or with the suggested servisol can,. I have already got some CONTEC electrical spray lube aerosol but thought it might be a bit thick or the ol' WD40, would you suggest either of these? Oil is an insulator so id have thought maybe not to clean variable carbon resistors with.
its also got noisy fan seems to be endemic with these amps.
I got a four channel amp (prosound) between the mixer (behringer) as someone tld me beter to allow a low gain from seriesing the amps, and then the pair of mg100hdfx amps and theres quite a bit of noise from the mixer when first switched on, possibly input capacitors again?
I dont notice it after it 'warms' up! - though theres no valves.
also the digitech jam man has lost its no 1 slow blues track, is there anybody out there that would be willing to copy their card and post it to me please? ill pay you for a copy if you can do? i found the down load facility on it was slightly faulty and I had to down load each sub routine and 'best guess' patch them together - sort of worked.
but then that pc i was using f'd up and was too dear to replace the disk drives, shame was a toshiba satellite. laptop. so i just use as it is.
    regards Frank.

I would suggest Servisol or any kind if switch cleaner / electrical contact cleaner. You could be on the right track with capacitors. You can test that, let one of your amps warm up then spray any suspect parts with freeze spray. If the noise comes back, that's your bad part. Not sure about the other things. Hopefully someone can help!
