- The Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered is a special versions of the compact premium S60 sedan developed to produce less emissions but also more excitement. The Volvo S60 Polestar Engineered competes with cars like the Audi S4 and BMW M3 but does it using a plug-in hybrid system instead of straight engine performance. Basically, the S60 Polestar Engineered uses the same 415hp plug-in hybrid system used in the XC-60 and XC-90 SUVs but in a smaller and more nimble sedan format. The Polestar devision of Volvo then tunes the S60 with added braking power, gold trim, adjustable struts and optimized hybrid system for very good results. The S60 Poestar Engineered can make a run to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds. The biggest problem with this nice looking sedan is the price. In Canada Volvo has a starting price of $80,000, which is much more than an Audi S4 and certainly much more then the new BMW 330e plug-in hybrid with the same 30km electric range.

Shame about the exchange rate, but this starts at $65K in the US. Now, most Volvo dealers will give you at least $5K off for just walking in the door. If you can’t get near $10K off one of these, you’re not trying.
Oh, and the comparison to the Bimmer was a joke right? The Volvo has $20K in suspension, brakes and other upgrades the BMW does not. The fair comparison would be against the T8 R-Design, which starts at $55K USD. The BMW 330e AWD M-Sport, which is comparable to the R-Design, starts at $50K. Similarly optioned, they are priced the same. As mentioned in the vid, the Volvo has over 100 hp more than the BMW. That’s 0-60 in 4.4 secs vs. the BMW’s 5.7; that’s a big difference folks.

The Volvo S60 sedan is the only car that had more comfortable seats than a PORSCHE or any other car I have been in. And try the non-Polestar S60 base, it's under $45,000 CAD. Great car.

I actually configured an S60 R-designed T8 PHEV (not the polestar version) in US website and end up costing almost similar to the highest spec 330e ($59,500~ with destination). I guess that Bowers & Wilkins sound system and that special polestar touches made it pricier than the 330e.

I had a Volvo 2004 S60 T2.5 for 10 years. My mistake was not getting an AWD in the first place and also selling it for $1K after 10 yrs of trouble free experience. The new Volvo’s are awesome looking, but I’m hesitant to buy a Chinese car...yet.

Comparing polestar to base BMW is not realistic. Prisewise, compare their performance models. Betcha the polestar vs AMG price wise is within range

I think the regular S60 T8 is much cheaper than the Polestar version. I think they charge for the breaks, suspension and ....Polestar name.
@Antonio Zamudio where are you getting this information from? It has 400hp like the regural T8 (313 + 87). If it has a bid different power curve I don't know (probably) but the engine internals are the same, the battery and the electric motor are also the same.

If they brought out a fast c30 equivalent that would be fun. In meantime it would make more sense to buy a cheap used electric car such as Nissan Leaf AND a fast audi or skoda to cover long distance express work

But the price went up 30 % since i have bought half year ago .I had pay 249000 reais and now 6 months later costs 335000 reais.
The reason why this is more expensive than a Tesla is because Volvo has a far much better quality, and a higher premium level in the interior. But that it is worth every single dollar, I will not comment.

OK I may not have 300 plus bhp or electric motors but I have a pre China volvo that has 400 nm torque, goes like stink, handles well and cost 70 grand less!..
And yes it has a polestar badge as its been tuned!

BMW M is what Volvo was targeting when they came up with "Polestar" cars.
I never drive geely before, they now own Volvo, should take me a while to figure out how good Volvo is going to be in next generation since I still believe Porsche is a Porsche.
Porsche is owned by VW so is Audi and like 9 other brands.

and i think will go up and up until met the c 43 amg for 500 000 reais

I'm an owner of both these brands and think you framed your price argument on the wrong car. Yes, the Volvo performance model u compared to in the same breath as AMG uses hybrid to get horsepower but compare the price of an M series BMW at $80k then Volvo, while no M car, becomes a more sensible number.

Have Volvo lost control of their balance sheets on that price. Roughly for 10 000 more I can get an Escilator or Lincoln which plays level too. Volvo bean counters have to ask there university fees back. Thx for the wow content and love all way down from South Africa. Stay save

7:46 "is the performance increase worth the huge amount of money?" No. And in any case, Volvo will not be top of mind for customers that prioritize performance. Prediction: this Polestar model will sell in extremely low volumes (less than 100 per year in Canada) and only after deep discounts.

You don't have to get the Polestar version. A much less expensive version looks the same. The R-Design looks almost identical inside.
To be fair u can get the S60 R-design in Canada with effectively the same hybrid system starting at 66 thousand and optioned out in the mid 70’s Canadian I think that’s the best comparison to that Audi S4 and has more power, but the polestar is pricy

Great honest review. I agree, not a fan of the gold accents - although the gold brake callipers are pretty cool. I usually love the Volvos and want them to compete with their German counterparts but I feel the German delivers better value for your money - for $80k? Geez.

While the gold/mustard coloured seat belts are, admittedly, a bit garish, the WILL be much more visible to EMS should you need to be removed from a Volvo S6 Polstar wreck...

Well the regular S60 T8 hybrid isn’t cheap either. It starts at 68.000. don’t know why they got such a bad pricing in Canada. They’re quite well priced (except for the polestar) in Germany (and probably rest of Europe) and you can get great deals on the V60 T6 hybrid
I love the way the new S60 looks.....but that price is ridiculous. That being said, the base s60 would be superb....though is it reliable? hmmmm......
Ever since China purchased volvo prices have gone insane. I've owned 7 with the last one purchased in 2012...no more better options on the market for that price...

D3X yeah just realized the normal one is expensive too. But I’d never go for the Polestar. The S4, C43 or 340i would be my choices
R-Design package. It's not like this Polestar version. This one has performance breaks and Ohlins dampers. I wouldn't need that performance, and maybe this car is too expensive, but the regular one doesn't perform like this one. I would just get a T6 and I prefer the inscription trim.
Benjamin Smith I know, the R-Design is just an optics pack like Audi S-Line or AMG-Line. It’s obviously slower and less sporty than the Polestar.. still, I kinda don’t see the point in the Polestar. Yeah it’s quicker, has sporty suspension etc.. but I doubt it’s that much more special than a R Design or Inscription. I feel there’s a bigger difference between a A4 45TFSI and S4 or 330i vs 340i

VOLVO will destroy their presence in the NA market if they maintain such prices. They are not that popular cars anyway, and now? Nobody in the right mind will buy this with such a price tag. You can buy their used performance models like 2-3 years old for 40-50% of the original price tag, if you're quiet enough sleeping you're going to hear how it looses $$$ every second parked in the garage.
True, i saw an S60 inscription for sell the other day for 24k. this car was never in an accident, had 1 previous owner and only 19k miles on the clock, i still can't believe it.

Nissan GT-R (R35) brake calipers are Gold colored, i think even the R34 was gold.
Don't even need to get a Model 3 Performance for better perfomance than this. A Dual Motor AWD is plenty fast! Even the SR+ is quick. Add to that horrendous fuel economy which seems to affect every Volvo (even the PHEVs from what I can see with 12.4L/100 at 9:08) and it's a no brainer

That's because Volvo is moving toward an hybrid to electric car line. I liked the 5 and 6 cylinder cars but things change.
