some context on this album if you weren’t aware by now is that this album is dedicated his partner that died and so a lot of the songs is about their relationship. i’ve heard that it was recorded before he died but the songs are still about him. really powerful either way imo

Yes, I ended up reading about it shortly after listening a few more times. Powerful album I agree, and kudos to him for mustering up the strength to release it. I'm sure it wasn't easy

Loved when you described the vibe of “Everything That Rises” as a “healing” song, and surprised that you picked up that he sounded like he’s been through a lot without knowing the context. Would love to see another Sufjan video (Carrie & Lowell)!

You must listen to his 2015 album " Carrie & Lowell".. his reflection on the death of his mother & existential matters in general. Many consider it his masterpiece. Although I contend Sufjan has had several masterpieces... , including Javelin.

It's funny that you mentioned Son Lux, they actually collaborated with Sufjan (and another artist Serengeti) with a group project called "Sisyphus" They have a really unique album of the same name that is pretty good :D. It's a nice unique blend of each of their musical styles.

I enjoyed the sincere reaction and sensiblity to get the art behind Sufjan Stevens work. Since I heard this album I thought it is one of my favorite albuns of him. And he has such great albuns! I recomend 'Carrie & Lowell', another masterpiece and one that he also wrote from a moment of grief. Who would have thought that we couldn't bring something beautiful out of difficult times?

Funny you mention this! King Krule is my most listened to artist of 2024 based on my Spotify wrapped lol. I wish I has made this channel earlier because I definitely would've reacted to Space Heavy. I absolutely love the album! My favorite songs are Flimsier, That is My Life, Empty Stomach Space Cadet(most listened to), Our Vacuum, & Space Heavy. Also was able to see them live when they came to Brooklyn!

Yo I heavily recommend All Delighted People EP by Sufjan to you. It’s much more acoustic than this and his vocals are a bit different, but I think it’s honestly his best project. Age of Adz is another one with electronic led instrumentals, and it’s wild, especially the closer track.
Illinois, Michigan, Seven Swans, Carrie and Lowell, and A Beginner’s Mind are all very good as well.
