    Good work on being the speed run commentator Daniel, hands down favorite person to watch for chess.

    Best chess teacher on the web. The beauty of how you teach is that you reason your way explicitly through the lines, which I am finding imprints itself onto my general play, which helps me to understand most positions I find myself in without needing to remember moves without knowing WHY (this also ironically helps me memorise some of the opening theory). I’m always looking for squares to control, type 2 undefended pieces I can pressure, pins and forks and lines of attack that force them, compact and harmonious defensive formations. Been watching about a year now, and it’s totally revolutionised the manner in which I play and my comprehension of the game.

    Why Daniel’s Speedrun is my favorite UA-cam chess channel?
    He brings us into his though process for every move.
    He is clear and concise.
    He teaches basic but strong smart moves.
    He does not say hello by name to each and every fans on his chat.
    He does not go down 17 lines, maybe just one or two.
    He closes his eyes when calculating complicated future moves and lines ;-D
    I learn the most from this channel. Thank you so much Daniel!

    I would love a video where you get a bad position with equal material (maybe minus 2-4 ish), where your opponent has a stable strategical advantage. And you’re trying to survive it and turn the tables

    • @WrightyFPL
      @WrightyFPL Рік тому +24

      Being equal material and -4 is much worse than being a knight down and -4 though. It means your position is absolutely horrible. He can only recover IF his opponent fucks up. He'll be making a video in hope, rather than being able to teach. Probably wouldn't work

    • @Raidannnn
      @Raidannnn Рік тому +16

      Unironically if u wanna watch someone do this watch Hikaru. Out of openings he’s often a bit worse, maybe not minus 2-4 but he always manages to find a way out. He obviously isn’t aiming to teach, but he has many example games on the manner

    • @skunkdoctor
      @skunkdoctor Рік тому +3

      @@WrightyFPLof course. However, people find themselves in that situation all the time. A GM pretending to be a 1300 does not. I’m not knocking the thrust/idea of Danya’s speedruns and I find them very instructive of course, but I wouldn’t take take this comment to task, either.

    • @WrightyFPL
      @WrightyFPL Рік тому

      @@Raidannnn you make a good point! I personally don't like Hikaru but he would be good for this. Regardless, if you choose an opening that's -1/-1.5, as a GM you can recover just fine. -4 is probably a bit too much at 1300+ where Danya is at on the run rn. But it could work and be instructive at lower eval. This is a "principled openings" speedrun tho so Danya won't choose a bad opening

    For those of you not understanding the early white light sq bishop check on B5 ... it induces blacks bishop coming to D7. Which starts the domino effect of black queen not being able to defend the D file. And the white D pawn wrecks havoc winning first the black D pawn, then black's dark bishop, then Black's light bishop. Then that's a wrap...

      I don't use they/them to be inclusive. There exist only males and females. I use they/them because I don't know whether the person is male or female, and the English word for that is "they".
      In Spanish, on the other hand, there is a group of people wanting to have the language changed significantly to allow for inclusive language, which is laughable, but it's also sad because the movement has unfortunately gained popularity, and I don't agree with changing a language just because someone (or many) want to; languages evolve with the passing of time naturally, much like living things.
      Also, I wouldn't have trouble calling someone a specific pronoun they wanted, but what I can't stand is when they get mad if I get it wrong or "assume their gender". I'm not being disrespectful by calling you "he" or "she" (I can't believe I have to clarify that).
      Anyhow, I've digressed a lot.

    Dear Danya, I both liked and hated this video because it completely exposes my secret weapon, the Modern Scandinavian and especially the Portuguese Gambit.
    Goed to show what a GM knows about the game that you know this pretty obscure line I found from memory without ever playing it yourself.
    However, although you called it the poor mans scandi, this video alone demonstrates the need for positional understanding that very few players have. Even though as white you only played pretty standard, principles moves against this 1300 to make him collapse, had the player known what you were thinking, he could have had a dynamic game that is solely the familiar territory of black.
    I feel the modern scandi when analyzed by the black player, they’ll at worst have an equal position, and at best a completely dominating position resulting from white being in very unfamiliar territory.
    Poor mans scandi, more like the Magicians Scandi!

    Daniel I love your videos they are very instructive and you have that great skill to teach not everyone has that. I got 2 things to say and I'm really curious about your answer
    1- from last night's match Magnus vs Hikaru, there was a match with bishop perpetual check match where Hikaru used all his time to gain advantage, I think Magnus should've take the bishop instead of drawing (revers UNO) because Hikaru had like 3 sec vs 2.30 min. even though he has the obvious advantage I think Hikaru has no chance to win with that time
    2- are you planning to make a speedrun Europe so we can watch online and ask questions simultaneously instead of watching them here on youtube :)

    It’s quite interesting that when his opponent went Nd4 he laughed it off, “well this just gives up a pawn”, but in analysis found it to be the strongest defense. Which makes you think- the only reason he dismissed it as a legitimate move is because he didn’t have enough time to consider the opponent’s other options, and he didn’t have enough time to consider other moves because the opponent played it so quickly. So did the opponent think and decide to play the mature pawn sac that quickly, or did he just play it and not realize he was blundering a pawn?
