Pleasure to watch! It would be great to see how you prepare to a journey like this or to any other XC flight. Maybe a tutorial on what apps you use, how to you check the weather and what do you look for? For a beginner like myself having it in a video tutorial would be highly beneficial.
You're giving us bits here and there when you insert cuts showing the weather apps, but a dedicated video tutorial would be priceless!
Thanks! I'm looking forward to the next adventure!

Nice one Ben! I'm so loving your channel and I'm always learning from them. Thank you! If you get a gap in flying, I'd love to hear about your own journey in paragliding, how you got to where you are at your skill level and about your relationship with flying the south island

Great video. Would be nice learn how to take off like you. How do you take off with wing almost folded without a line tangle?

Thanks! I put it on the ground in a mushroom and pull the tips out to make sure there's no cravatte as long as you have the leading and trailing edge clear it should come up clean even from a small ball. Takes a bit of practice and some ground handling but is my prefered method when there is wind or if the ground is sharp and unforgiving for the canopy.

Mate this is awesome! I live in Wanaka and have always seen paragliders around but mistakenly assumed they were just floating about for fun haha! This style of xc touring sounds much more appealing to me than the guys doing the acro stuff for example.
Have you done any videos on risk / danger mitigation? It sounds like you plan things pretty carefully so would be interested to hear your thoughts as obviously there's been some serious/fatal accidents over the years which I must admit has kinda scared me off from getting involved.

Yeah I'd be lying if I said there was no risk, but it's like most things it's as dangerous as you make it. I like to compare it to riding a motorcycle, you can ride a scooter nice and slow in safe conditions around town or you can ride a 1000cc at 300 kmph in the rain... also the more experience skill you have the faster motorbike you can safely ride, in varying conditions. It's the same for flying paragliders.
The key thing for safety is understanding the weather, it's not overly complicated to learn to read the forecasts to understand when it is and isn't safe to fly, they teach you all of it in the paragliding school.
It's an amazing place to fly here, I'd recommend going to an introduction day, they show you all the kit explain how it all works and you get to have a go at launching and landing the glider off a small hill!

Great vids! How do you like the Frace for volbiv? What’s good and what’s annoying? Did you already try the new BV1?

Yeah I like the Frace or Vol Biv, it has heaps of storage, packs really small and only weighs 1.5kg!! I don't have the BV1 yet, hopefully next month, looks amazing though, very similar but with some thicker material, more storage and solar panel attachments for the pod 😎
