Widmung op. 25 nº 1 (Schumann) - Diana Damrau
- From her recital in Madrid on the 19th of May.
Hard as it is to choose, this is my favourite Lied.
Her voice is just beyond. In addition to this piece, she is by far, the best Queen of the Night of all time. Her "Der Hölle Rache" incorporates a Callas like passion with technical perfection. It doesn't get better than that.
It was on purpose! Schubert's Ave Maria was Clara Schumann's favourite song, and Robert wrote this song for her, so he put in some of Schubert's genius.
WOW! just increadable i dont know how to describe her she is amazing! She is so sensitive and expressive yet at the same time very agressive and forceful
My favourite Lied is every one sung by Diana^^
But seriously now, this really is one of my favourites by Schumann.
Haha, I just sang this for a master class at my high school. She totes just kicked my butt out of the water. Diana inspires me so much; I wish I could steal her voice sometimes. I hope I can sing as well as her at her age.
Diana Damrau is just amazing. And this is a lovely piece, it's so much fun to sing.
@Guadalupefan
Hi! Yes, I love the end when he brings in the Schubert "Ave Maria." I noticed it first when studying this piece as a girl many, many years ago. I can't believe it's an accident. Too much of a coincidence that she's singing about the love of her life and then the very traditional wedding music is quoted. Too cool.
Danke!
@PiscatorMedia Very true! Schumann quotes the Ave Maria. He and Schubert were very good friends, and he loved his work.
@Lilith89ibz "Ave Maria" was Clara's favorite song, and as this song was dedicated (gewidmet) to her, he superimposed the melody over his accompaniment on purpose, for her.
i love hearing germans sing german!
Listen to the last word of the song at 1:50
That's the standard German pronunciation. Go to Wikipedia's "Voiceless palatal fricative" page and listen to it their...
beautiful!
He quotes ave maria because he wrote this cycle (Myrthen) to His wife clara as a wedding gift.
I wouldn't know if that was on purpose, but it is awesome ^^
I just realized- the piano figure that recurs throughout is the same as the wedding song ("Helft mir, o Schwestern") in Frauenliebe und Leben- And am I crazy, or is based on Schubert's Ave Maria figure?
Let's say there are lots of Italians in Ibiza and I hear it verywhere LOL
wait, so I'm singing this now, and I was wondering, are the ich's supposed to be pronounced as ish? I was told that they were supposed to be like this weird h sounding thing like eehhhh.
I always wondered about that!!! So it was on purpose?
If only she was! lol No, they are form interviews she's given. But you gave me an idea ;)
Well, I dooooon't think so LOL But I do have a bunch of pics, yes. I get them from everywhere. Kind of casually. After looking for them for hours, of course lol
Don't get your knickers in a twist! Technically, no, they are not supposed to be pronounced like that if you are learning it and German is not your mother tongue. That's Diana's Bavarian accent. It's perfectly acceptable, but I would not sing it like that. You can do it like this if you are consistent, but I don't think it's a good idea to change what you've learned.
It is crazy to be nationalistic about music. Music belongs to the world thanks to geniuses who happened to be born in a particular place at a particular time. And for each genius there were countless influences of music from every part of Europe.
Not really... That's the kind of ideas I have on my own LOL I'm not sure about having those pics! Are they from the production I've been uploading? Because if they are, I have them.
I don't know, but I guess she hasn't or I would! ;)
@Guadalupefan oh yeah i noticed
No, this is NOT what I was talking about before, Maggeo lol
Stephan Matthias Lademann
Del recital no cuelgues nada, porfa, que me hace mucha ilu colgarlo yo =P
Estoy haciendo otra cosita, mientras. A ver si te gusta ^^
@Lilith89ibz it is on purpose
Soy rara y a mucha honra, vale?
Say the word "human" and hold out the beginning consonant. That's the ideal.
I'll send them now, ok? So you will shut up! lol
I will write an article, but don't be so impatient! Dio, porca miseria! LOL!!!
