- McKee RV Tech showing us how to connect and tow our Jeep Patriot to a Stehl Tow Dolly. Dolly is able to handle 5000 pound vehicle. Has break light kit and safety break kit.
Straps around the tires need to be checked from inside to not catch any other parts of the vehicle such as brake hoses/pipes etc which can be damaged easily without knowing the risk behind.
That lady is doing very well 👍
You making a simple job hard😊
Safety chains should be crossed to cradle the trailer if it ever fell off
After watching this, I don't think I would do any business with that company!! Or let the guy in the ball cap hook up or sell me anything!!
The first tire doesn't look secure .
They're a local company here in South Carolina. Apparently, they think too highly of their little dolly's because you can't even purchase through them and must go through a dealer.
I think with a 4x4 you are supposed to have the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in park. Putting the t-case in neutral disengages the drivetrain. If you leave it in neutral but don't put the transfer case in neutral I believe you can damage the 4x4 components.
That is absolutely true you always Put transfer case in neutral
Crossing the chains keeps the tongue from hitting the ground if it were to come off the ball.
Tks for sharing. I have a dolly I’m going to use.
Did any body else catch that? The guy who doesent know how to strap tires on the dolly asked: you guys going on a trip? No the rv was getting tired so we put the rv up on the dollys to help push hahahahaha :HERES YOU SIGN LMFAO
We thought about going with a Class A and towing a vehicle but ended up going with a 5th wheel. We might go to a Class A someday. Never off the table.
Tow dolly works great, but it is wider than RV so you are very conscious of staying in white lines especially in narrow lanes or where there is road construction.
that patriot looks like a liberty
Dónde se vende este aparato
The guy hooking it up has NO CLUE!!!!!! You DO need to cross the chains. Had no idea what the safety chains were. And you do NOT want your steering wheel to turn. What an idiot!!!! And he is "teachibg" other people how to use it. SMH
Depends on the dolly if you want your steering wheel to turn or not. The dolly I was going to buy said my steering wheel needed to turn. I agree about crossing the chains though.
Liberty is RWD so transfer case needs to be in natural, not transmission. Yes, the steering needs to be locked.
Chains always need to be crossed,
LOL😂😂😂
@@petenilsen985 I'd still pull the driveshaft.
That guy can't be trusted to do anything. I might have to go to his house and bang his wife cuz he probly fucks that up too!
on strap round buckle go around and back thru before cramming down it want come loose as easy
Please cross your safety chains, many states it’s the law as it is in provinces in Canada.
Doesn't crossing the chains hold up the trailer up off the ground if the trailer comes loose from the tow vehicle? I believe they should be crossed but I don't know much.
Yes. Chains must be crossed. We did our homework after listening to this guy. Also used this as reference on review with rv dealer so others would know to beware of this rv dealer.
I saw a video on UA-cam with a couple of tow truck operators on the side of the road trying to get a jeep that had came off the dolly and went over where the front tires are supposed to sit. It was a white jeep that looked just like this one and it had a blue dolly also. I wonder if that's these folks lol
Definitely cross chains it’s DOT law so if it comes undone it will rest on chains so it don’t drag and those chains on front of dolly are safety chains needs to be connected to sturdy part of car it’s another form of securement Incase straps loosen up or come undone. Good luck and take your time until your use yo towing
You do not want your wheels to turn that's why the dolly pivots in the middle
Not all dollies pivot. The Stehl is one that does not pivot.
@@emartens52 that Stehl DOES pivot.
Edward Martens I have a Stehl car tow dolly, and believe me it pivots in the middle, and not tying off the steering wheel is a disaster waiting to happen because if the tires turn on the surface of the pivoting tray, then it loosens the tie down straps, which can make it possible for the tires to come loose from being attached, due to excessive slack being created, and you can imagine what would happen with the car being loosely & unsafely attached to the tow dolly.
@@treeoflife6386 my straps never loosen. My steering in never locked
MrBlaze256 when I towed a car with my tow dolly, and the steering wheel was not locked, when I stopped to check everything again at the 150 mile mark, the tires had went from pointing strait ahead to being angled at 20-30 degrees, and the straps had became somewhat loosened up, which I never expected would happen. I was lucky that I didn’t miss this check point to see if everything was still in good shape. The thing about it is, you might be safe 99 times out of a 100, but there’s always a possibility of that one in a hundred times that things go wrong, so I live by the rule that “It’s best to be safe, than sorry”!
Steering wheel needs to be Locked...... the dolly has the pivot point
This guy showing you how to hook up your vehicle has no idea what he is doing. You want to lock the steering wheel so the straps do not loosen. The plate on the dolly rotates to allow your vehicle to turn. I hope someone else showed you how to do it correctly. t
You are so correct. We lock the steering wheel each time. I called out this guy to the rv dealer i worked with.
Also, that first strap didn't even come down the wheel far enough. It needed to be adjusted.
4x4 disengage ?
That’s not a Patriot! It’s a Liberty.
I just want to know if the tire was low?
Yes, the tire was low.
After watching this. All I can say is run away run away fast and find someone that knows what they are doing
Oh yeah let’s go camping 🏕
Even if you hate campin, ya still gotta go campin....
Me podrían traducir lo que dijo sobre el volante del coche que será remolcado?
Liberty lol but nice video
The guy showing them how to strap down has no clue what he is doing? This is not the proper way!!!
You are correct. Total moron.
Seems counter intuitive, hook up the required 2 safety chains so if it comes off hitch it will keep the trailer with you, then hook up the required safety brake that locks up trailer brakes if it comes off the hitch? All my trailers have the same setup, but I've always felt if my 14,000 lb trailer comes off the hitch, I want to be as far away as possible...
That's scary! Worst dolly hook up video I've ever seen! Some others are pretty bad, but this one is what lawsuits are made of!!!
This guy sure needs a major lesson on how to lace the straps too! Looks like he just ran it through the rings and tightened. The instructions are even on the straps on mine. Shows you exactly how to loop them through. This is BAD! He even has a twist in that driver's side strap! WOW.
the inexperienced RVers are the brains of the outfit....the bearded yardape should not be allowed near anything smarter than himself. which is everything
That is a Jeep Liberty not Patriot
That's a jeep liberty 2002-2007...
I want to buy it
While I hope yall are still alive, and didn't hurt anybody, you should have taken this "HowTo" video down, unless it was a How to NOT hook up a tow vehicle...
8:35 crossing the chains...
9:14 "I'm not really sure what those are for..."
"It's my first time" shortly after.
So I didnot spend time reading all the comments but your steering wheel is supposed to be locked the deck on the tow dolly is supposed to pivot this man absolutely does not understand how things work
I have been told you can't dolly tow a jeep am I wrong
Yes you can, but must be manual transmission. Depends on year made.
You can also pull the driveshaft if it's an automatic. This is how big tow trucks pull semi trucks.
You can also sit in a jeep and give me a hummer!
@@rotaryskratch18 if the transfer case can be put in neutral, should dolly tow OK.
My dad owns a jeep patriot and that's not what it looks like at all that's a 1st gen jeep liberty.
Precio por favor
He probably owes them a transmission!!
I was thinking the exact same thing. Never tow a AWD, RWD or 4x4 without removing the drive shaft. 🤦🏽♂️
@@Funk_Reactions Actually, newer models are building "flat tow mode" into their configurations. This allows the driver to select this option to electronically disengage drive axles, similar to how 4X4's offer "diff lock" option. I flat tow my 4X4 Escape behind my rig, in the owners manuals it contains a section about if you can, or cannot flat tow, or dolly tow your vehicle. The new Ford Rangers and most others offer this function. But EVERYONE should check their owners manual first.
Who got here by searching get out of here scoozy
Fail out of the gate. Listen to the woman.
Donde puedo conseguir aquí en México
Alli por donde vive doña Carmen
Ven para juaritos. Aqui puedes conseguir esta vergota!
The lady should shut her trap and watch
cross your safety chains rookie mistake
Keep in your consideration the size of the straps to cover al least middle of the wheels. Also, follow the women opinions.
Ouch. Those straps are tooooo small for that tire. Dummy
I really hate tow dollies, cant back them up and 2 many issues with rear wheel drive vehicles, having to disconnect the drive shaft and all that
Shake the camera more! :)
typical cust svc, u have a guy who is supposed to KNOW what he is doing and just the opposite is true here????????????/
He doesn’t know how to hook the dolly up
You may want to take a look at UA-cam this is not right
Полная херня !
I totally wasted Video
