It is devastating when they don't come home. We lost a cat some years back but unfortunately he was hit by a car, we only found out when we visited all of our neighbors. Now if one of my cats doesn't come home I'm always worried.

Lmao 😂what to do when your cat goes missing?Back when we were kids at my hometown ,We just forgot about them completely and they showed up eventually with a huge belly, pregnant already and us complaining about how and what the hell to do with the 12 kittens following us for food when the stupid mama cat refused to fed them or even wanted to be close to them. She'd scratched their faces and let us humans raise them. Eventually they would die one by one because they wouldn't eat either so all the special milk we'd bought them was a waste after all.

That was a very comprehensive cover of all the things that ought to be done if your cat goes missing. One additional tip I'd add for for especially a kitten gone recently missing is to do an additional search after dusk, and into the night around your home or close neighbours homes. When frightened they may go under a house and sleep through the day, oblivious of your calling ,but emerge at night for catching little things to eat, find water etc. and become visible and responsive again.
Secondly, if the cat remains missing it's even more critical to keep posters at local vets or a main local shopping centre.By then that cat may have travelled a bit further, really is lost and the best option is someone coming across the cat recognising the poster.I reunited a missing for 2 months ragdoll I noticed on my security camera at nights in my backyard and saw a fading poster at my local vets realising it was that cat.I could then tee up with it's owners to come and get their cat as soon as it appeared in my backyard on the camera. Their cat did recognise them as they went out to her and mission was accomplished. This cat had ended up across the freeway with high wooden fences where the owners wouldn't think to search.
Another point for any who may have accidentally hit a cat with their car killing it , it helps to either leave the body on their nature strip for the owner to locate early in their search. Despite the tragic outcome owners are relieved for the closure and ability to properly bury their beloved pet.
The best preventatives are keeping cats in and in enclosures being super cautious of knowing where cats are before opening doors etc..
Regarding cats who are allowed outside more freely by insistence, wether fully or partly supervised is to keep that time in the day up to the earlier part of the afternoon.Towards later times approaching dusk even by a couple of hours cats have independent risky wandering and hunting on their minds plus awareness later that you will bring them inside for lock up so can go too far taking risks.
My sons 2 bengals are now annoyed that their outdoor curfew is so much earlier after one went missing for 20 hours running away from being called in.We'd rather be safe than sorry so it's inside earlier and being played with instead.Or a little leash walk for the one who will begrudgingly accept a leash as a compromise.
REGARDING BENGAL CATS,( maybe even some oriental breeds?), my son has tried every option in cat proofing a fence, yet his large boy bengal will get over every option eventually, including the uncomfortable plastic mini spikes are for him worth enduring the discomfort on paws re going off.Luckily neighbouring houses are fine with him visiting. These 2 bengals became obsessed with freedom once having moved to a beach side suburb with a creek running across the backyards, maximum birds squaking, lots of lizards, skinks, possums even rodents about sometimes. The scents and noises were too compelling, ripping fur out and urinary stress symptoms/treatments in the boy, vomiting and timidity in the girl (now a very feisty confident girl)only stopped once allowed access to this world. No attention, play times or just leash and lock up worked.Even with him working from home since covid.Since some outside time they are very much happier contented cats. Maybe if he'd had this as a first residence and a cat enclosure set up when getting them as kittens they could have possibly been ok with that and not realised they ought to get further out. With bengals it is important to have things fully ready before acquiring them as kittens. They are too lively and needy to have half things ready and work out the rest later.Knowledge in hindsight.

Our cat is not allowed out on his own. He does have a small private area.
Yes very scary to have a cat come up missing l
I’ve seen a few people post in cat groups about losing a cat from the dryer! How can someone leave them open and not hear them in the dryer, only to find the cat deceased.
