- Do you remember your first computer?
This video shows the performance of the top computer brands in terms of market share. Apple dropped by a lot in the late 90s, hence why they brought back Steve Jobs. I did not include them with the "others" because they have been very influential to the computer industry. Those that dropped to 0% were either acquired or left the computer market. Computer brands that sold less than 3% are part of the "others" group, those included brands like Sony Vaio, Microsoft Surface, Packard Bell and hundred others. In the 90s computer sales were based on price and performance instead of style since they were seen as a business tool.
I included popular computers from each year so you can see the progression of computer designs and so you can have an idea of what was selling at that time. I did not include many laptop images because it's difficult to see their progression other than thinner bodies.

My first computer was the Others brand and I loved it!!! 😂Lol No but seriously the first computer I had back as a kid in the 90's was a custom built Pentium II MMX 233 with Windows 95 32 MB of ram, a 24x CD-ROM drive and a 32 bit Video card Expert Color Pro it was called Lol. My dad paid about $2000 at the time knowing that computers were going to be the way of the future. I miss my dad he was the best dad ever!😭
Never had something else then Others. Makes absolutly no sence for me to buy a brand. I am building my own computers and ever did so. Thats the only way to have full control of all the parts.

My first computer was Toshiba Satellite. 2 gb ram, 500 gb hard drive. It was the most costly one that time, and I still have it :)
lucky you my first computer was a Vic 20. 4K ram and a Tape drive.
the first computer that I learned on was an I don't know. We had a Dumb terminal in school. we used a modem to call it. there was a paper print out for the screen and saved our programs on a paper Tape. God I am old.

My first computer was an eMachines T-Series tower with Windows XP Home Edition, running an Intel Celeron, 128 MB of RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, with a CD, DVD and floppy drive 😀
That must've been a dog! My first was a Dell Dimension with 2GB and a 120GB hard drive. Oh, and a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4. It was still usable into the late 2010s!
Toshiba got on the charts selling only laptops. Legendary.
Watching this on my 2011 HP Pavilion notebook. It’s been on almost continuously since the spring of 2011.
My VERY first computer was a Timex Sinclair. It had 1K of memory. NO drive storage, not even tape. You entered a simple program of no more than 1,000 total characters. When you turned it off you could not save the program. Monitor was a TV. It cost $99 assembled or $49 if you wanted to assemble it yourself. Not very practical, but that's how I learned. My computer #2 was a Radio Shack CoCo. Still have it.
My first computer, which I got as a Christmas present 25 years ago, was a clone, which would belong with "others!"
Basically, all computers are clones they were based on the IBM 8088 processer even the ones made today. So, Compaq, HP, Hewlett Packard and ECT. were all IBM clones.

My first microcomputer was Cybernet. It was an American-made model. It enabled me to learn to use Microsoft Windows XP Professional like a computer technician, and it had Microsoft Office XP Professional that enabled me to work higher than just a keyboard specialist (that is, a typist with strong keyboarding skills). In 2017, I bought my first Dell microcomputer, but replaced it with an advanced Dell microcomputer that works great, as you may read my accurately-typed comment. I call my microcomputer my Keyboard, because it is my powerful typewriter. I enjoy using it a lot. Keep the shows coming through!🙂
I didn't realise how popular Lenovo are now - I always assumed they were like 4th of 5th most popular!

The data videos were getting few views so I was trying out other types of videos, but those got even less views. So I would end up deleting them so they don't drag the channel down.
Still using an HP slimline w7 from 12/2011, it is on 24/7/365, only real problem I had with it was the power supply went bad after five years, replaced it and had no problems since, only upgraded the cpu, and the ram!
Hmm, but you know there has been no security support for years. Each time you connect to the Internet, you are easy prey for advanced hackers. Maybe you don't notice this because they use your computer as a relay. Only when the police knock on your door and ask you about internet crimes done with your PC, will you find out?
My first work computer was an Apple 2e, upgraded to the first IBM PC with a HD in the twin cities. My first personal computer I built.

I've always wanted to try an Others.
At work I have an acer and my coworkers use HP too. At home I still have a Fujitsu Amilo and an Apple MacBook Pro. I had an Lenovo ThinkPad but gave it to my aunt.
Got my Dell in 2008. After few upgrades and replaced parts still just as quick as anything new Ive used today

Having built a custom rig, I have successfully bought a PC from “others”. And hope my LG gram too comes under “others”
My desktop is an Asus and my laptop is a Lenovo, so that puts me at the bottom of the list and the top of the list at the same time hehe! My 1st computer was a BBC Micro from 1981, from the early age of home computers. If we're talking the era in this video (1996-2023), then my 1st PC I had was from a local PC shop, so would have been classed as 'others' on this list. It was a Pentium II with 350MHz, March 1999
My first computer was a Commodore VIC 20. I then upgraded to a Commodore 64 and then an Amiga 128. My first PC type I had was a Radio Shack Tandy 3000 NL I bought in 1989.
Someone should do a video that starts way earlier to include commodore and such
I am really amazed that there was no MSI which is very popular among gamers
But gamers are not popular so, and their setup pc are very expensive so 🤷
My first was an Atari Mega ST with 2MB RAM and a 30MB external HD. But it had built-in MIDI ports!

Interesting how “others” declined suddenly in the last 8 years. Uncannily like what happened to the car industry a century ago. Hundreds of car manufacturers went bust leaving only the dozen or so well known brands we know today.

My first computer was a Commodore 64. Then later in the 1990 I bought a PC clone built from a local puter builder called BetaComp. Then in the 2000s i built my own AMD system.Now I own a Gateway laptop and HP desktop.
I'll never forget the day Lenovo overtook PlusOthers to become the number 1 brand.
2014 - The 'brands' started offering deals to the big firms, the firm I worked for went Lenovo, great laptops even back then and so cheap nearly everybody had one in the company.

9 months late but since you asked: My first 'computer' was an Amstrad PCW8256. My first Windows based computer was a Dell Optiplex with 4 GB of ROM and 256 MB of RAM. It had an Intel Pentium 4 (2.4 GHz) processor, which sounded big at the time. I also had no idea how close Apple came to falling out of the game altogether, Jesus.

My first computer was a notebook, Acer Aspire 5742 G, run with Windows 7, I buy this for around 600 € in Jan. 2011. I still use it until today with Windows 10, but some parts are broken.
Mine was a Tosiiba Notebook.
Its OS was Windows 98 SE.

I own a Acer laptop and I love it. The only thing I hate about it is that the touch pad for it stopped working but that's okay because I prefer using a mouse instead anyway. I don't understand why its on the bottom of the list.

I think others is largely the generic no name pc clones that were budget options. They were sold at electronic stores or online.

'Others' should have small enough combined share to stay at the bottom of whatever list size you are following through time. It's a bit silly if it moves up and down the chart, and it's beyond ludicrous for it to be at number one for nearly the whole time. Imagine if the chart show announced that the number one in the singles chart was a combination of literally all tracks available to stream, download or buy, other than those we already played between 40 and 2 in the Top 40.
I would assume Dell was first, with all the corporate partners they have.

Gateway was super big back in the day and should shown on this video. it shouldn't be just under others.

In 45 years I have had tones of "others" computers and non with a brand
286 16Mhz with a 44MB MFM hard drive and a green monitor. The monitor displayed in green only... which I thought looked nicer than the Red ones. Oh... and 1MB of ram running DOS 4.1. First upgrade was to put in an "Adlib" sound card... :)
Did you add in the 8081 math coprocesser? Had that on my first 286 along with the 40 mb hard drive. All that space, how will it ever fill up?

I’m kind of surprised Apple isn’t higher, but I love the effect of the bars changing as years go by.
Large businesses and colleges don't buy Macs, they're too expensive. Those are the biggest buyers.
And with Windows being good and many people being used to it - not many people see the need to switch to Apple.
@@CaptainGizmo My local school district growing up were always huge Apple customers and even still there were way more PC's overall. All the dedicated computer labs and the engineering lab in the highschool (where they taught CAD and photoshop) had Macs, but the regular classrooms, libraries, and administrative offices had standard Dell office PCs.

Interesting how the companies that make the worst computers/laptops got the first two places.
I knew others was in trouble due to the rise of the laptop and demise of the desktop PC. I'm surprised how long it took others to be overtaken. Currently I've got a Lenovo gaming laptop and a home built desktop PC which would be an others. I'm shocked Dell isn't much higher given every work computer I've got is a dell in a large hospital. Dell has most of the business market.
