It's still sort of.. brain dead that they went this route with a pirate game? Imagine a Pirate Game with the systems of Black Flag, but refined. And the story and vibe of Pirates of the Caribbean, or the Black Sails show. Where you get to be your own pirate, a giant pirate witcher 3. Side with a nation, plunder ships, have 1v1s with the captains. Actually be able to fucking sword fight...
congratulations you're smarter than the lame ass who's in charge of ubisoft ... obviously their #1 goal with this game was to keep development costs as low as possible in hopes even if it just sold average or below average it'll still create them a good amount of profit ... to say this mobile game clone took 10 years to make is absolutely mind boggling , like no joke they must of only had 2 - 3 people working on it if after 10 years this is the end product

This game is going to bomb. Looking at the January 2024 pre-order numbers on Amzon for games releasing this February, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has 4,000 + pre-orders for this month of January, The S.Squad: K.T.J.L has 1,000 +, and Skull & Bones only has 300 +. Yes, only 300 + for January while even the S.Squad: K.T.J.L has 1,000 +. That's bad, REALLY bad since there are much older games that have been released that have better sales than that (EX: Horizon: Forbidden West from January 2022 sold 1000 + for January 2024). Yes, there are pre-order numbers for previous months and pre-order numbers for several other websites / stores and then there are digital pre-orders (which are unknown at this time) but I doubt those pre-order sales numbers are that much higher (and I doubt additional sales for when the game releases and afterwards will be any better). Since this game is online only and depends on servers (where if the servers get shut off, the game is no longer playable) I'd take caution since this game looks like it's going to bomb hard and the servers might get shutdown within a year (not a fun thing since the game is $70, with a $99 special edition. Granted, I'm expecting at least a 50% permanent price drop by May).

Even if Sea of Thieves intrigues people it's not exactly available on Playstation. I don't love the art style of SoT though tbh.

Feel pretty comfortable not owning this game, Ubisoft. I think what people wanted from a pirate game was to build on and refine the mechanics from black flag whilst going all out with a swashbuckling pirate adventure story you could immerse yourself in. Not Sea of Thieves with rtx graphics.

Its not even close to as good as Sea of Thieves.. in SoT you can at least angle your sails, walk around on your own ship, explore islands, go onto an island without a loading screen. Skull & Bones: move the ship with WASD, no exploring, no melee combat, gather wood with a minigame, and last but not least: the healer ship 😂 this game is a massive fail. Sea of thieves on the other hand is a beautiful game, even though the artstyle is not for everyone.

@@shadeygamez3620 the game is objectively bad to the point where people are questioning why it wasn’t just released as a mobile game instead. It is a huge downgrade on a game that released a decade ago. There is nothing extra in terms of gameplay loop that is being hidden for the full launch of the game either. Other than a few more ships that have minor negligible differences, this is the game in its entirety.
Well at least you didn’t waste the other 20 hours in your day…
It’s so crazy that Ubisoft just made word of warships with this opportunity. A true pirate game where you could recruit your own crew mates at different ports with specializations, hunt real treasure on islands, sunken ships, and raiding from merchant ships, fighting mythical sea monsters and legendary pirates ships, would have been an amazing cash cow…
And somehow Assassin's creed 4 is the better pirate game while being an Assassin game... Really goes to show how good AC4 is.
Could’ve saved Ubisoft a lot of time and money just to re-release Black Flag for modern systems

The idea of Black Flag without the Assassin's Creed had so much potential. How did they manage to throw away ALL of that potential? Either Ubisoft is truly delusional in their pursuit of their own GTA online and somehow believe that this is it, or they really don't care about it and are only releasing it because the deal with the Singapore government forces them to. I should be all over another Ubisoft pirate game, but can't see myself ever having the desire to pick this up.
It's interesting how a company that accidentally made one of the best single player pirate experiences to date have 0 clue on how to reproduce it. All they had to do was refine what they made 10 years ago and then if they strictly needed it to be online take some inspiration from successful online pirate games like Sea of Thieves.
The third person formula where you get to climb and explore islands looking for treasure and hidden secrets and dive under water. Maybe refine the whaling minigame and make all this in an open world with the option to play solo or join servers hosting small amounts of players, depending on world size anywhere from 8-24 players. And later down the line maybe add a pvp mode to que up for nice large scale naval battles
This company likely doesn't have any of the same developers that made that game.

they had a free beta for the weekend of its launch and i STILL didnt download. lol
i wanted a realistic pirate game that handled like black flag with ships ranging from small to large and upgradable with loot from other players or npc ships. Realistic damage like shooting the water line and below when you can will start sinking the ship if it penetrates. The ability to repair be it yourself or command the crew, the best way to put it would be a polished blackwake in an open world or open sea with at least some ai crew on the guns. speaking of blackwake i wish that game got more attention than it did, its such a fun game

Ubisoft already had a perfect foundation for a pirate game 10 years ago... just do more of what AC IV was, but without the assassin plot and you're set, people already love that game so just expand on that maybe? I cannot comprehend why they would go the live service route...

What I dislike about this game is that it doesn't feel like "oh no an enemy ship appears in the fog" but instead it's a clusterfuck of 20 ships shooting all over the place at all times.
Imagine an open world with the possibilities of RDR2 in a pirate game with islands and treasures.
That's what I'm waiting for. Still hoping that Rockstar will develop something like that when they have finished GTA6. I know, I know...wishful thinking.

Limiting everything to ship only gameplay would get boring pretty quick, never mention you cant actually board ships or explore places yourself on foot besides the hub areas.

Why was this so hard to understand for Ubisoft. Blackflag was great and beloved because you got to live the life of a pirate. Yes the ship gameplay was fun for the time, but people adore the game because you get to BE A PIRATE. I want to feel like a pirate not cosplay as a battleship.
That was so kind of Ubisoft to sponsor you some early access of the game just to let more people to sht on the game. Guess we will never get our dreamt pirate game for eternity. Sad even ubisoft cant beat their own game from more than 10 years ago...all they had to do was just put a new pirate-focused story on AC4:BF, updated graphic and expand the ship combat features.
I was kind of looking forward to trying this game, but then you mentioned "no single player" and it's put me off of getting it. It is what it is.
It was announced as a multiplayer focused game bajilion years ago, a PvP competitive game as a service multiplayer. The game was never about single player and I don't know why people still have hype (maybe hope?) for this game.

I mean technically it’s single player in the sense that you don’t have to play with other people. But you will see them around the world. But it’s not forced co-op or pvp. You don’t have to interact with other players you see in the world.

@@nilso597 yea I think it was a good move to do that like you still get the full immersion experience of seeing other ships but still having the choice to pick your play style. I would love to see pvp matchmaking lobbies and not just special events. 5v5 team death match would be crazy.

I been waiting for this game for a long time. I bought the Digital Premium Edition for Xbox afew weeks ago. I love Pirate Games and Movies. I'm hyped for the game

Im into Fighting games like MK 1 but sometimes you just want a game that you can just chill and relax in after a long day at work.
i feel like an improvements to the forts and sea beast and maybe fleets a bit and it will be great

nope we weren't allowed to stream or upload more than a certain amount of gameplay :/ the open beta starts next week though so it won't be long til you can play yourself!
I feel like with the fort point here, your ship was level 11 and the fort was level 10, this means you were doing more damage to it than being on the same level but its damage reduction in comparison to level, when your anything more than 2 to 3 levels above something it will show you just how powerful you really are, this is to give players the feeling that while it is certainly more difficult to fight these higher level ships, its possible but then the same goes for the NPCs vs you to keep some challenge and time taken behind the PVE rather than one popping everything, as most of us should know by now, being powerful over everything else is fun...for about 15 minutes, when theres no chance of us dying left in the game its kind of meh this is the feel I got from the open beta which closed this morning :)
did they up the amount of players that can be in a group? if so that is epic!
Black Flag is more of a Pirate Game than this game alone.
All they had to do ,and I know a lot of people have mentioned this but, take Blac Flag features, add in the new features, remove the assassins and templars, add a Pirates of the Caribbean like story with reference to Jack Sparrow. Like Sea of Thieves.
Years of development wasted on a half ass attempt.
Check out Caribbean Legend - Pirate Open-World RPG. It's based on an old mod that has a huge following and is going to steal this games thunder soon.
I like how they tested the waters (pun intended) of the naval combat in AC3, and then fully implemented it (with roaring success) in AC4, and over the course of ten years....slowly sucked out 50% of what made those games fun.
If someone grabbed me by the shoulders and said "DO YOU WANT TO PLAY ASSASSIN'S CREED BLACK FLAG, ONLY YOU CAN'T BOARD ENEMY SHIPS, OR SWORD-FIGHT, OR EXPLORE CAVES AND AZTEC RUINS!?" I would first tell them: "Please stop yelling at me", and then follow that up with: "No, that's stupid."

I hope they continue to improve and add to the game. Need some better rewards than cosmetics

I'd be pissed if the forts were destroyable in less than 15 minutes. Straight up. That would feel so bad and immersion breaking. It is a giant fort.. Game is much better than people are saying in my opinion.
i think it was early tomb raider i was thinking, why can't she open doors and walk inside? and then one day a game, i forget which, did this, open the door, walk inside a building, go upstairs.
why do we have all these "board ship" black frames, and why for every occasion?
This whole idea of hitmarkers, damage numbers popping up as you're doing damage, a main hub area that i care nothing about where we walk through each other or the over the top hud doesn't seem right to me. It feels so 2014. It is just another Ubisoft game

I have to give them all the credit for giving the players the game for free before they buy it OMG ! Tomorrow 8 Feb there is a a few days free beta world wide test for the players to make up there own mind if that want to buy this game or not... Wow they have a lot of confidence that people will like it and buy it. Unlike a game that just came out that blames the gamers and reviewer's for not likening and buying the game. You just have to love them for this :)
they shouldve just remade black flag without the assassins/templars story. and added multiplayer, like elite dangerous-style. done. id buy that.

might be a nick pick, but what i don't like about the game, is that it feels too clean. too shiny and it feels like a kid's imagination. if they actually wanted to make it realistic, it would be so much dirtier, the ships would be darker, your character would be completely dirty due to mostly being on your ship. and so much more.
also i like the pieces of eight inspiration from pirates of the Caribbean at worlds end

Ubisoft had the BLUEPRINT with Black Flag…..yet they FK it up so bad, we get this ?This will probably be another FLOP….all we wanted was Black Flag, create your own pirate, great story and adventure….make it an epic RPG. No sir…..we get this…..
the factories don't make sense, because 2 players could own the same factory when they meet up in the same lobby.....

If the ship combat is fun that's all I care about personally. I wouldn't pay full price for it but I'd get it on sale if that part is fun. And I like the idea of trade routes
Ubisoft games are always great when they are on sale for like 20-30 bucks
Recently got Immortals fenyx rising for like 5 bucks and it was totally worth it, so imma wait for this one as well to drop in price

I want a pirate game that has the base of Black Flag, the storytelling of Witcher 3, some nice gun and swordplay and exploration with ship combat. Just an awesome pirate type RPG.

Although I'm pleasantly surprised Ubisoft actually mamanged to slap together a somewhat coherent game from the disasater that was the SnB development, it still doesn't look worth of 70 dolla AND asking even more for battle passes and cosmetics.
So hostile takeover mode is a 4 player high score wins...that means for every match/or turn or whatever you want to call it only 25% of the players will win leaving 75% percent of the players will lose 100% percent of the time...how is that supposed to be fun? How many ways can they fuck this up?
Looks like a F2P game to me.
I’m going to get it no matter what. They know exactly what to do with live service games look at the division 2, they managed to provide outrageous amounts of content without needing to purchase anything more than a base game and dlc. Season passes are only necessarily for vanity purposes and from what we’ve been shown, there’s enough vanity and free content for us to enjoy. A lot of players don’t understand that this game has been redesigned with each new director and has suffered public consequences and lack of confidence from them. It’s not the developers fault that this game took so long to exist, it’s strange to say but I’d defend skull and bones strongly because they are willing to present the abundance of content we can access in early to late game. Plus it’s cheaper on pc for the platinum version. By a whopping 25 dollars or pounds. Being critical on a game that’s publicly admitted its downfalls due to redevelopments is unfair. Just be happy that Skull and Bones is going to try its best and that no matter of it falls short, we can all admire the elements of the game that do work.
