I wish I got this, this hit really hard after loosing my mom in a similar way. For a second I thought I would get this moment. I was looking through my voicemail for some reason. Then I saw it. It was short but a voice mail from my mom. At this point I really needed it. So I listen and it was a pocket dialed. I waited for something, anything. It ended. Nothing said, just a pocket dial. I wish sometimes the movies were real.

Sorry for your lose mate. That pain will always be there, you learn to live it, but only in time. As Rooter said - And you'll always miss him. But he'll always be with you, as long as you remember the things he taught you. In a way, you'll never be apart, for you are still part of each other.

I always interpreted Marvin’s death as the universe taking its revenge on Marshall for lying to Lily about seeing Barney’s doppelgänger. Once they actually find the real doppelgänger, they still can’t get pregnant, which is what that whole episode is about, but then the universe begins a literal countdown and it doesn’t stop once his dad dies, but it stops once specifically Marshall finds out, finally granting him the ability to be a father… at the cost of his very own. Gave me chills when I put that together on the second (maybe third) viewing of HIMYM.

Love Lily's acting, Neil and Jason are great too. I cried the moment Lily got out of the taxi. It must be hard to tell someone you love the last thing they want to hear. This is heartbreaking, yet part of life that most of us would have to go through.

I wasn't close to my father. He was an angry abusive alcoholic like his father. So this scene doesn't hit me in the way it hits most people.
I have kids of my own now and I don't drink or anything. My kids adore me though. Their faces light up when they see me. So when I pass I worry about how it will effect them.

My dad died of a sudden ruptured aneurysm on. 10 December 2015
Quick death, little pain, no warnings. One minute he’s fine getting ready for an average boring day, next minute he’s gone.
I’ll never see him age, decay, never remember him as anything other that a young fit cool guy.
As I watch my grandfather decay through dementia I’m greatful that my father will never suffer such a fate. Like JFK, marlin monroe, James dean and heath ledger, he went in his prime. That’s how I’ll always remember him.
No drawn out hospital visits, because he didn’t know about it so he wasn’t afraid of it.
He was 46, in his prime, 4 months from seeing his daughter’s wedding, 3 years from his first grandson, 5 years from his first granddaughter. 7 years from his step daughter’s wedding.
And worst of all, he was 4 years late for The Irishman, if he did show up in 2019 to see it Al Pacino would look at the camera through the screen and say “you’re late!”

Marshall's wife and friends saw Marvin Sr as the good role model of father since Marshall always praised him unlike their father, Ted's father can hold forever commitment with his mom(divorced), Robin Sr always look down Robin because her gender, Lily's father always make stupid things (like bet) and Barney never know his father until he found out Jerome is his dad.
