Great video! Lived in a very pretty Cotswolds hamlet for 12 years. Thought I would never want to leave but the area was becoming more and more like a theme park. People moving in with huge amounts of money to spend on ‘improving’ their homes and not giving a toss about being part of the community. Definitely a two-tier culture based on wealth. Being snubbed by your neighbours because you live in a home of lesser value. Really? That definitely exists. We moved to North Herefordshire and the difference was phenomenal! I think because it’s not an aspirational place to live and doesn’t have the deadly ‘cachet’ of owning a home in the Cotswolds (even though it’s also very beautiful). My family has roots in the Cotswolds going back to the 17th century but I don’t miss it. Some happy memories too though and I do get why folk want to visit!

One of the glories of England and Wales is the paths. An unusual part of our law is Customary Law. If a path has been used since "time immemorial" (in practice since anyone can remember), it becomes a Right of Way, and you cannot be stopped using it. Recently areas (usually high wild areas) have been clarified as having the 'Right to Roam'. Both rights have some obvious qualifications, such as not harming livestock, and not peering into people's houses. Both of these are marked on our official Ordnance Survey maps. You can walk using these rights all over our country; did you see the arrow on the gate telling you this was a public footpath? Looks like you guys had a lovely time exploring. Shame you couldn't stay in Oxford longer - it's a beautiful city. I must admit I couldn't help but laugh at 14:44 'get some b-roll of these sausages, they're gorgeous' aaaaand cut to Richmonds bought from an off license 😂
Oxford was awesome from what we were able to see - just wish we did have longer. Haha yeah I looked up what Richmonds were and an off license. I wasn't familiar with those terms, but yes, that's exactly what happened 😂😂😂
@@michaelandabbey At least you went to the covered market which is really nice. If you're ever back in town, I'd recommend the Ashmolean museum and a few pubs (Oxford has some of the best and oldest pubs in the country). I should have explained that off-licenses are essentially convience stores, and they use distinctive blue carrier bags which is how I noticed. But I enjoyed the sausages comment particularly because buying meat from an off-license is the kind of thing you'd normally do if you were desparate haha!
Why do the American reviewers, especially, have to mention Harry Potter in these videos - these places been here for hundreds of years, demeans them - and when in a foreign country accept the changes and stop comparing everything to America - please please stop trying to sound English! Insulting 🏴
I understand your frustration. It can be disappointing when the history and unique character of a place are overshadowed by pop culture references. Every country has its own rich tapestry of culture and history, and it's important to appreciate those differences. While comparisons can be interesting, especially for us, as we love movies and pop culture, it's essential to respect the local context. I guess the reason we mentioned it was not a disrespectful comparison, we just noted the differences. Never meant anything by the accents and was truly just being light hearted about it. I appreciate you watching the video - it means alot!
@@michaelandabbey Autumn (Fall) or spring, though it can be a bit hit and miss with the weather. The west highlands and islands of Scotland - especially the Isle of Sky, are amazing places to visit, with plenty of guest-houses to choose from and great pubs and food. The marine life and scenery are stunning. Also the south-west (Cornwall and Devon, which have an abundance of great beaches and beautiful seaside villages), the Lake District, which is great for hiking, and of course there are plenty of other towns and cities, each with their own flavour.
There're 160,000miles of public footpaths in England and Wales, and farmers are expected to maintain any gates stiles or bridges on them, and can be fined for obstructing them. The "grocery store" you stopped at is a motorway service area, in fact it's the newest one on the entire motorway network, it's been open around eight years, and the roofs of both North and South bound have won awards for design and innovation. The buildings are invisible from the air. Btw, your "bunny" is actually a hare, a larger relative of the rabbit, we didn't have rabbits in the U.K. until the Romans brought them in the first century. Every churchyard in England has at least one Yew tree, Yew is what the English long-bow is made from, and we had to have a good supply.
Wow, that truly is incredible and actually kind of nice that the farmers maintain them, which is why (I'm sure) the one we stumbled upon was so well kept. The motorway service area was amazing! Loved the layout and it's very interesting that it's invisible from the sky. Lol, I understand the difference between a rabbit and a hare for sure... we just usually say "bunny" because it's more of an inside joke from Abbey and I from the Scooby-Doo movie (just for reference lol). Okay, that's amazing about the Yew trees in all of the churchyards. Truly beautiful. I appreciate all of that amazing and valuable information, truly thanks!
Some bigger Cotswolds towns you’d absolutely love: Cirencester and Bradford on Avon. The latter is in a very steep valley with streets going up the hillsides. The views are to die for, and there’s a TINY Saxon church there. Saxon churches are very rare because they predate the majority of our churches and cathedrals, which were built by the Norman French (after they conquered us in 1066), often by knocking down or extending the original Saxon ones. Therefore, Saxon churches are over a thousand years old.
You certainly picked so great weather. Those paths you walked are all over the Cotswolds and the greater UK. There is no law of trespass and some of those paths date back a 1,000 yrs and more. Hope you come back again @michaelandabbey
The weather was honestly perfect! I've learned that since posting this video, but to us in the moment it felt like we stumbled upon something secret, but absolutely loved it! I appreciate the nice comment and thank you so much for watching. We definitely want to come back soon!

You do know you either drink tea or fruit infusions tea is tea as in tea leaves, fruit infusions are steamed dried fruit bits. This doesn’t take away from your pleasure in imbibing fruit infusions but in the UK they are not tea, maybe for the tourists. If you look in shops or supermarkets they (tea blends and fruit infusions) can be lumped together on the shelves but normally separate! Please! I was so confused when you said you were having tea and poured it into the cup and all I saw was steaming hot clear liquid, so confused I thought you had been duped until you said something like strawberry or some such and knew you meant : Aaah he means a fruit infusion not tea! I’m actually loving your guided tour through the areas in the Cotswolds since I live on the edge of it in Gloucester (pronounced Gloster as in Dr Foster went to Gloster in a shower of rain!) I really hope you enjoyed your trip here, all your appreciation of what you see is evident in all your footage. Cheers People!!!
Having tea like that is definitely new to us. We usually drink either hot black tea, green tea, or herbal teas, and of course here, we do like sweetened ice tea. Regardless of what we had, we loved it, but I definitely need to try it the other way. We really enjoyed our time and it was absolutely beautiful to see!

The Cotswolds stone is fairly unique, but there are villages that look as quaint as these (in whatever the local stone happens to be) the length and breadth of the United Kingdom.
@@jamesrowe3606 I didn’t know that. Not Met those Scottish people. I’m sure there are some English and Welsh and Irish too, but I don’t think they are the majority.

Glad you all enjoyed your visit to the Cotswolds, but it was spoiled for some Brits watching by your half hearted feeble attempt of an English accent as others have alluded to, we don’t talk like that and it comes across although unintentional as you are taking the p#ss out of us, we do it to each other daily it’s called banter, but when a foreigner does it, different story.
I understand completely and truthfully never meant any disrespect. Appreciate your watching the video. Sorry if it was offensive, I truly meant nothing that way. I later found out that it's called a cockney accent and people impersonate American accents as what we call a "southern" or "hillbilly", which to me is comical. Again thanks for watching and truly meant no disrespect.
Really pleased you enjoyed the Cotswolds, Painswick is 4 miles from my home. On thing please, please don't try speaking "English" there is is not English accent as they change every 20 miles or so. You will never sound English to someone who is English 😅
Yes we really did! We definitely will want to visit again soon! Ok noted! I noticed just from London to Painswick I definitely noticed a different in the accents!
That’s a silly thing to say. Every native accent we have in England is “an English accent”. A foreigner saying they’re going to put on an English accent doesn’t imply there’s only one English accent any more than us saying we’re going to put on “an American accent” implies there’s only one American accent. And some Americans (not many, admittedly) can do very good English accents - if Renée Zellweger wasn’t famous, she’d fool any of us. I wish my fellow Brits would resist making such patronising (and frankly pretentious) comments to American vloggers. It’s excruciatingly cringeworthy. You make us all look like a bunch of a**eholes. Fortunately, Americans tend to be very gracious. PS I live just outside the Cotswolds.
@@penname5766I agree, an attempt at an accent is a form of affection and fun. I have a Gloucester accent and find it amusing when people take the piss, just like it's fun to try others, whether in the UK or abroad.

@@michaelandabbey It has been great fun seeing our country through your eyes. The Cotswolds is a lovely area. Well one thing about fast food is we try to see the difference between the quality of what is there and what is at home. And truthfully Wendy’s was a quick stop because we were in a hurry to get to our spot for the evening. Plus I worked there when I was 16 so I was like eh why not. I absolutely loved this vlog! Thank you for taking us with you on this most amazing trip. It all looks like a fairy tale! Loved it. ❤
Thank you so much for watching!
We have used different building Materials over Centuries usually whats to hand , Times move on Materials improve Techniques change. But id Argue in Terms of Beauty the Cotswolds is in Gold spot .
I understand that completely just really admired the architecture and just how things were built
@@michaelandabbeymost of the buildings in the UK were made of wood with wattle and double filling between the beams ( usually painted white unless it's in Kent and southern area were they used to use pigs blood hence giving a Pink effect ) , around the 1600s ish bricks became cheaper so they were used .
Loved your Cotswolds experience, thank you
Thank you so much for watching!
Renting the little house for the team was an excellent idea.
It really was!
@@michaelandabbey Then again, I would love to know how many £££s JKR has brought into the UK through her creation.
Great vid , well edited. Enjoy your holidays

Appreciate you watching. Not sure I understand the chocolate box reference though
Great vlog, guys. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Y'all come back soon.
Thank you soooo mcuh! We absolutely loved it and would love to come back in a different season too! What would you recommend the best is?
@@michaelandabbey Autumn (Fall) or spring, though it can be a bit hit and miss with the weather. The west highlands and islands of Scotland - especially the Isle of Sky, are amazing places to visit, with plenty of guest-houses to choose from and great pubs and food. The marine life and scenery are stunning. Also the south-west (Cornwall and Devon, which have an abundance of great beaches and beautiful seaside villages), the Lake District, which is great for hiking, and of course there are plenty of other towns and cities, each with their own flavour.
Love you attempts are our accents, you had lovely weather. By the way that wasn’t an English Breakfast. Corn Beef!! Potato? Wtf?
We did have great weather and lmao I don’t know I was told it was 😅
@@michaelandabbey well being from England and being 53 years old i can tell you I’ve never had corn beef or potato in a full English lol
Haha well good to know! I’ve never had it until there
There're 160,000miles of public footpaths in England and Wales, and farmers are expected to maintain any gates stiles or bridges on them, and can be fined for obstructing them.
@@michaelandabbey Damn, I'd have got away with calling you out, if it wasn't for those pesky kids!
😂😂 perfect response
Some bigger Cotswolds towns you’d absolutely love: Cirencester and Bradford on Avon. The latter is in a very steep valley with streets going up the hillsides. The views are to die for, and there’s a TINY Saxon church there. Saxon churches are very rare because they predate the majority of our churches and cathedrals, which were built by the Norman French (after they conquered us in 1066), often by knocking down or extending the original Saxon ones. Therefore, Saxon churches are over a thousand years old.
That sounds absolutely magical and we are notating all of this so we can add it to the next visit (hopefully a longer one too)
Honestly though thank you so much for all of the comments and the insights on things we'll enjoy next time. Very thankful for that!
@@michaelandabbeyYou’re very welcome 🙏 😊
Where can i find the Harry Potter tour in Oxford? The Cotswolds were beautiful. Were there any No Trespassing signs? Thanks for video.
Why would there be no trespassing signs it is not America
Great video. Glad you enjoyed your Cotswolds trip.
Thank yo so much! We LOVED it!
@michaelandabbey Look forward coming back for even more adventures. Lots more secrets to discover.
Oxford is a city. There are lots of areas as beautiful too. Derbyshire has places like this. P.S Sorry but agree about trying the accent 😅
Oh no know it's a city for sure! Just really call everything town by mistake. I'm sure there are sooo many beautiful places - we definitely want to visit more! Lol I understand and I've mentioned to others, I truly meant no disrespect. I really appreciate you watching the video!
The roads are that narrow especially in the West Country (particularly Devon, Somerset and Cornwall) 😂😂😂
Ok! Definitely very narrow. Do they get even more narrow than that!?
@@michaelandabbey Yep the roads in the West Country in some parts are just wide enough for one car and the wing mirrors touch the bushes
I’m actually loving your guided tour through the areas in the Cotswolds since I live on the edge of it in Gloucester (pronounced Gloster as in Dr Foster went to Gloster in a shower of rain!)
I really hope you enjoyed your trip here, all your appreciation of what you see is evident in all your footage.
A Lovely Couple well Group actually.
Thank you so much and thanks for watching!
Forget trying a strange accent.. Brits know you are an American when a grown man calls something "Cute" just go with the flow and enjoy an English pub and a more sensible pace of life
Lol I get it and I guess we were thinking it was very nice there. I do agree a very sensible pace of life and that's what was so peaceful about it. Appreciate your watching the video!
Excellent filming/editing!
Thank you very much!
I'm no wild life expert, but those 'bunnies' on the tin look more like _hares_ to me!😀
Haha well same thing 🐰
The Cotswolds stone is fairly unique, but there are villages that look as quaint as these (in whatever the local stone happens to be) the length and breadth of the United Kingdom.
That's amazing. It definitely was beautiful!
We don’t drink our tea black as a rule. Yuk.
Oh really!? I’ve never added cream or anything to it!

Oh really!? Well I guess it's something I was told but good to know! Regardless we loved our stay.
We watched the movie Euro Trip while we were there and they met the soccer fans and then later found out it was called a cockney accent...didn't know that in the moment, but we never spoke like that around anybody while there. We really did enjoy the trip and I do appreciate you watching the video!

Fair enough haha. But thank you very much for watching it and enjoying most of it!
Mate Lose the English Accent or Trying to do an English Accent, apart from that all good.
Yeah, I got as far as 11:12 then quit, couldn't stand the offensive accent.
@digidol52 Only offensive accent was him Trying to do a Dick van Dyke .
Appreciate your watching the video. Sorry if it was offensive, I truly meant nothing that way. I later found out that it's called a cockney accent and people impersonate American accents as what we call a "southern" or "hillbilly", which to me is comical. Again thanks for watching and truly meant no disrespect.
Appreciate it, and thank you for watching! We know, we know, we really love the English accent and obviously meant no disrespect at all.
@michaelandabbey That was a Cockney with a speech impediment Mate
@@penname5766 Then you must have very weak ears.
@@penname5766I agree, an attempt at an accent is a form of affection and fun. I have a Gloucester accent and find it amusing when people take the piss, just like it's fun to try others, whether in the UK or abroad.

Why eat Wendy's and McDonald's? Try things that you can't get at home. And the English impressions... it's not great.
Well one thing about fast food is we try to see the difference between the quality of what is there and what is at home. And truthfully Wendy’s was a quick stop because we were in a hurry to get to our spot for the evening. Plus I worked there when I was 16 so I was like eh why not. We certainly enjoyed the local places on the entire trip but you focused on the two instances we got fast food.
