She couldn't Believe it when I said YES to this FREE Yard Makeover!

  • A follower from facebook contacted me to see if I could possibly have a look at her daughter's overgrown yard to see if I could help out with a free cleanup. Her daughter actually suffers from a debilitating disability, and is on disability pension. Not only that, she is a single mother who really struggles with her yard. Initially, I didn't think it was quite bad enough to do a makeover, but I decided to go ahead anyway just to help out, all for free. All up, this job took me around 11 hours to complete, including 3 trips to the landfill.

    FAQ's:
    Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
    Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
    1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
    2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
    3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
    4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
    5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
    Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

A viewer-satisfying makeover doesn't have to involve a jungle or a rubbish dump that's bigger than a previous episode. Watching your technique and knowing that your heart is exactly in the right place makes for a pleasing experience. As usual, you transformed the garden with compassion, respect, and empathy -- three of your finest tools that you expertly bring to every episode. Thank you, George.

George, I subscribe to over a dozen lawn makeover channels. You are my favorite. I love the descriptions of the plants, bushes and trees you work with and especially the way you fix things that aren't really your job to do. It shows how much you truly care about the people you serve. Every time I watch you, I see nothing you have missed. I recently watched another who left vines hanging on the fence. Yes, I left a comment about it. It may seem trivial to others, but it's a matter of completion and professionalism to me. You are simply the BEST.

I just started watching your channel and I thought you would enjoy this! I am a 74 year old woman with LPD (lazy procrastination disorder) living in Florida. I have conquered this problem by watching one of your episodes last week when I woke up in the morning. 5am. Ugh. When it was over, I was so inspired I put on my gardening clothes, grabbed my battery powered weed whacker, and went out the door! The possums and raccoons were appalled! I worked for an hour, that's all the battery is good for. That's all I'm good for too.Every morning since, I watch an episode and then go outside. I also have a battery powered lawnmower. 7 days later and the place is starting to look good! Thank you, thank you, thank you! From Cynthia in Florida.

Greetings from the USA to my friend down under in Australia.
George I always enjoy watching your yard transformations on this channel.
Watching you do your magic while listening to some great tunes
Is very relaxing and therapeutic to me.
Sometimes the machine noise can be distracting.
Thanks for giving us the options for either.
I've learned a lot about different species of trees and shrubbery from watching. And look for them while I'm out driving. Before i never paid any attention to that type of thing.
    Wishing you the best.

Does it seem like when "George of the Jungle" looses his yellow and green, he mellows out quite a bit, is it me or what ??
Me thinks that Quince was not going to give up without a fight, No ?? If you listen closely, you can hear the Elephant in the yard next door !!
Wow Mr. George, you did a really nice job here. Well Done !!
On Monday, for the Eclipse, Montreal sits on the Western Edge of The Path of Totality, as the sun comes across our horizon. We will have a 20 story view on our terrace on the roof.

George Of Eden good day. This is yet another great one I've watched amongst the many. I've got a thing about seeing a small yard become so big just because it got the care it needed. Well done.

I'm from the US. I haven't been to Oz in many decades - since the '70s, actually. I nearly went to college there at UNSW. Many of the movies I've watched over the decades have been Australian made, and a goodly number of youtubers I follow are from Oz, and not just landscapers.
I said all that, to say this: I posted a picture of the Hills on my FB and told my American audience that that was the national tree of Australia, and that anyone who thought the Golden Wattle was the national tree was mistaken.
My military friends and relatives who've been, and my FB friends from Down Under had a pretty good laugh. Those umbrella types especially are so ubiquitous in every video, they might as well be the national tree. Y'all should take a vote, George.

It may not have been the biggest and baddest garden, but you sure were impressive making it utterly tidy and neat, and I'd say that was a lot of hard work you put into the renovation, George! I mean 11 hours is not to be sneezed at, and 3 tip runs means a great deal of waste foliage was collected. Well Done! and a nice, satisfying video to watch. :) Thank you!
