Exactly!!!! I worked on it all day today. I really am enjoying this one. It’s more fun building a fun simple car. A super fancy car with expensive parts and paint is way more stressful!!!!
I say paint the 65 satin black and put some white 15” steelies on it. With the chrome trim it will look rad! Also I although I’m old school, I say go with the new heads; take the headache out of the equation. Nice work brother! Save them old girls!
Congratulations getting down and dirty past The 65 is a solid little car. If it was me I would go with the aftermarket heads with them having the accessories holes give you options and the double humps are good swap meet parts
I agree. I think the 63 is going to get that 350 with a set of Promax heads. Put that with the Saginaw 4 speed. Drop that in there. Basically the 63 will be a good cruiser.
I worked on it today. I’m really enjoying it. It’s like building a fun car is actually fun. When you build a super fancy car with expensive parts and paint. It’s way more stressful!!!! lol.
Down and Dirty on the road again!!! 🎉🎉 I think all your troubles were worth it ! Just look at 1964 Chevelle is saved !! How much better could it get?? Great Job Steve !!!
Thanks Jerry! Yep Down N Dirty is officially saved!! Cars like that don’t usually make it. Usually end up stripped and then crushed. So I feel pretty good about it!
You didn’t mention on the fuelie heads that the combustion chamber is 61-63CC and will bring up the compression ratio on a first Gen late block 350 to 9-9.5. Which is great for pump gas…….But I think you’re low on the rebuild costs on those heads. The exhaust seats need to be changed over to hardened type. My estimate would be $1K to $1.3K………..So get the aftermarket aluminum heads with 61-63CC chambers.
@@macho4x4warlock98 I believe the 462’s are closer to 64cc chambers. The 261’s are lower. But either way. I believe the way to go is aftermarket. As much as I would rather keep the fuelies. I think the way to go is aftermarket. 🤷♂️
That 65 could be a nice car the roof don't bother me I worked in body shop for right at 40 years ive fixed alot worst. I'm really glad every thing worked out with down and dirty.
As of right now…… I have clean Arizona titles on every car!!!! Super happy!!! I think my buddy can beat that roof straightish. Good enough. It will be a race car. Fun street car. It won’t be a 6 figure show car. 🤷♂️ I’m ok with that
Nice Car! You don't see many 100 Series 2 door cars as most were 4 doors. If you do put that 406 in it I hope you have some slapper bars back in the shed to help that car hook up!
I do like the simple 100 series cars! I think the smaller back window looks good! I’ve had two of these cars. My buddy jason has built like 4 of them. So I’ve got a soft spot for them for sure. I think the 406 will be fun in here!!!
I have a set of Double hump heads all ported out, exactly like those. Stainless valves 202/ 160s. screw in studs and guide plates. I only used them to break in flat tappet cam. the guides are bad. A set of aluminum heads would be nice.
Well… hey…. We aren’t all perfect!!!! I’m kidding I’m kidding!!! I’ve built many cars that weren’t chevys. They are just my personal preference. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
On these early Novas, I’ve always wondered if you could ditch the upper control arms and towers And replace with a strut ? Maybe later model Nissan or GM?
They do make adjustable coil overs that bolt right in place of the stock springs. I’ll be installing a set of them in the next week or two. I’ll do a video on it. They are made by a company called Aldan American go check out their website and stay tuned. I’ll be doing that video here soon. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
LIL Nova can be someone's clean race car. But it too much for the first guy $ vs resale does not make sense for you. But the next guy can take it to next level.🎉🎉 Just get her back to working with a little v8 nice 👍
The long wait was do to the mistake you made. A box of Krispy Kreme donuts with a bow on it sitting on passenger seat is required for fast service 😁...
Those heads used to be bad ass cool but then the 80’s came along 😂 get some alum ones, Bondo some camel humps on the front and paint em orange. That what we used to do in the late 80’s 😂😂👍
I mean I’m sure they would work fine for that 350. But…… the roller cam and springs…. Screw in studs and guide plates would be preferred….. so I’m torn….. 🤷♂️
Early 90’s we got a set of Air Flow Research heads. Car went from 14.5 to 12.80. They were disguised as I mentioned but oh yeah they were super expensive.
Sell the fuelie heads to a Boomer while they still think those are the sh!7 and use the five hundred the Boomer paid for those towards something way better. If the plan is to sell the '65 then probably think about putting the 327 or a 350 in it because those 400 blocks are getting hard to find. Unless you're sick of the 400s?🤷 I doubt someone is going to pay more for the car because there is a 406 in it vs a 355 or other.🤔 If it were me as a potential buyer I would want the car to look good moreso than it being fast. Making it fast is the fun part, making it look good not so much. But that's what I think and I would guess you as well? Can't wait to see how it ends up.😎👍
@@tackettshoh Well it's ultimately up to you, let the 406 go because it's ready or pull that 283 out you might have from underneath the bench and get that one ready to go?🤷 Dealer's choice.😁 Plus if you get something else ready to go that's more videos you can make.😎👍
@@tackettshoh Another thing is the first time you do a spirited first to second gear shift with that saginaw 4 speed the 1 - 2 synchros are going to get blown out from the torque of that 406. That transmission can't even handle the torque of a warmed over sbc 350. A warmed over 283 with 305 (416 casting) HO heads or 305 Vortec heads even better. The 416 heads flow as much as the Vortec heads after being ported. Vortec 305 heads can be ported to 260 cfm intake 190s exhaust would be better with that transmission. They sell dome pistons for 283s to get the compression up. Flat tops will only be 9.2 to 1 with 58cc chambers or if you get the EQ sbc Vortec 305 heads those can handle being milled to use flat tops. Have them milled .040" and that will get you to 10 to 1. Top it off with a genuine imitation rpm airgap daul plane intake and a 600 or 650 4bbl of your choice. A 1202 or 1203 Summit 4/7 swap flat tappet cam would be a great match for this combo. Will make good hp but not so much torque to take out the saginaw. I would guess right around 300 to 325 hp with the EQ Vortec 305 heads milled .040" with flat tops. And about 270 to 290 with the 416 heads milled .040" and flt tops. Or to get the compression up with dome pistons you could use the sbc 350 Vortec heads to get to 10 to 1. Or the Bay of e cheapie special aluminum heads that are 185 or 195cc runners at the most with the dome pistons and shoot for just under 11 to 1 because aluminum. Just make sure to use self wicking green loctite to glue the seats in just incase. Lapping in the valves to make sure they seal wouldn't be a bad idea either. Try to get 1.94"/1.50" valve heads if you can or notch the block if necessasary for 2.02" valves, the 1.60" should be ok. With a .030" overbore 283 block that is 3.905" might work with 2.02"/1.60" heads, never measured it so.....? With the above using the aluminum heads if you want it more radical you can go with a solid flat tappet cam with a single plane intake to rev that puppy to 8,000 rpm where the peak hp will be with the head flow with a cam in the .600" lift area. This will be close to or above 400 hp with around 300 ft lbs. This would be a very fun combo but will need a 4.10 or more gear because it will be a bit lazy down low so the gear will correct that. Manual transmission combos that can rev to the moon are very fun to drive, you don't need sbc 406 torque in a 2,800 lb car unless you're building a burnout machine or a drag race car. Try road racing with one of your cars you'll probably like it, especially with an engine that can rev.😎👍
