Good old fashioned British engineering , still thriving In Birmingham.
I used to make similar for extruders for the plastics industry. They were done with a milling attachment on the cross-slide. Some were variable pictch. Then linished to a glass finish. They would then be sent out for NITRIDING to be case hardened. They were made of very high quality steel. They ran in precision made barrels.

I did (as a proj engineer) several projects for oil mill clients, mainly crushing rape seeds and sunflower but also coconut. The screw indeed ran in a barrel as you said. The barrel consisted of parallel steel bars fixed in a cage. The barrels themselves were tapered. The oil was squeezed through the narrow cavities between the bars and collected.
@@son-of-a-gun if barrel was also taped then how regular rotational movment of shaft is possible....shaft will tight in barrel and stop rotating like a nut bolt...please clear my doubt
Not that it matters for a screw shaft, but that I could hear that surface finish from here! With a follower steady rest like that, i have to assume the reason the cut was so slow was just due to the machine's power with such a broad cutting surface?

I believe that is the central part of an expeller press used to press edible vegetable oil from oil seeds e.g. rape seed, coconut, sunflowers, palm kernels etc.
Normally the screw is made of surface hardened steel. Oil seeds in contact with the rotating screw are quite abrasive you know!

Нет. А если по всей технологиии, включая азотирование. И шлифовку. И т д . Где то часов 70-90 в зависимости от диаметра и длины. Настоящий шнек имеет разную высоту нареза для достижения степени сжатия и вдобавок переменный шаг! В Украине только завод Большевик имел для этого оборудование. Все погибло в перестройках, незалежностях и т п .

Here we go again... another AMAZING manufacturing video. It's just CLICKBAIT to call these ordinary processes "amazing". What's amazing is that the word "amazing" still works as clickbait!
A cnc screw cutter does this job in just a few minutes.
This is how it was done a few decades ago.
Its never been done like this. They have and still make the "flights" first then they bend the flights, attach them to a smaller tube, weld them onto the smaller tube then weld the flights together making a full conveyor.

Thats the most wasteful and rediculious way to make screw conveyor flights I've ever seen. You can find the flight dimensions online for how to cut flights, bend and weld them all together onto a rod. So why not do that and be correct?
If you look at the finished shaft the flights as such are tappered so it's for compression, if they were making an augur for moving stuff then I would 100% agree.
