I tried to create printables 2 years ago and then i gave up because I thought you had to save every single file and i just thought it was time consuming so i gave up!!! anyway now i no what i need to do lmao thank you so much im going to create some printables now heheh
I've been trying to figure this out for days!!! I've read and read and none of it made sense and no one explained any of this the way you did. Thank you, thank you!! This is so much more simple than I was expecting it to be.
i know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I love any tips you can offer me
This was hands down THE most helpful video on UA-cam, I watched several other videos that claim they would help with sizing but didn’t. You explained it so simply for my brain, now I feel confident I can start working on digital downloads for my store! Also love that you made that chart available to everyone!Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you need anything else. The FB group I run is really helpful for troubleshooting and we love to help each other to kick butt together!
Waiting to be accepted. But quick questions. I’m debating doing PNG vs PDF document. For less confusion the zip files seem more user friendly it’s easier to isolate files but pdf is higher quality. Do you know an easy way to isolate pdf files for instance if they wanted to save a single design a part from the rest, I couldn’t figure that out or how to explain how they would
Thanks for the info. I understand the ratios and sizes, the problem is that when I save a single file of a 3:4 ratio in it´s bigger size....the JPG file is about 10MB, I still need to upload another 4 different ratios....If etsy only let´s me upload 20MB how do I overcome this? I thought of uploading the smallest sizes within the aspect ratios but as for the client user experience....they need to manually scale up the sizes in some sort of image editing software....not a good deal.
Great videos thanks a mil , just a couple of questions, I see people offering a digital print pdf photo in ratios 4:5 , 3:4 , 2:3 and then 5x7 and 11x14. Under the 5x7 it has the iso sizes of A4, A3, A2 &A1 my question is what size do I scale those options down from when saving on Canva pro? From what I understand from your chart is that I would save the image as an A1 so 59x84cm and that way the client can scale down to a A6 if needed? I’m finding the Iso sizes confusing , sorry if this is a silly question! Not understanding the 5x7 and iso sizes in same category! Thank you so much
That's right you could do A1 and the customer can size down appropriately. 11x14 is standalone. 5x7 would also be a standalone because the ratio is actually 3.5:2.5 Hope that makes sense
I understood we could only get 300 DPI quality by saving the image as a PDF print file on canva but this seller is doing them in JPG! Does this mean this seller has not made the prints in canva as canva only exports JPG in 96 DPI as you mentioned in another video? I’m not sure now whether to save as JPG or pdf print 😰 really sorry, until a week ago I never had a scooby about ratios, image sizes , pixels ect. Finding all this a bit overwhelming. I just don’t want to mess it up and be sending out blurry images! Thanks again ❤
Potentially they have converted but unless they're using a program to upscale the print quality will not be what the customer expects. I recommend using a tool like Photoshop. Their built in upscale works well and Adobe Express can even do that for you as well
Thank you for having a slow calming tone😊 everyone else wants to be speedy Gonzales when trying to explain when people like myself mind can't go that fast in picking up what a fast talker is trying to say😹 I've actually learned something 🙂 and now I'm ready to show up and show out ♥️😊 thanks love and may more blessings come your way😊♥️♥️♥️
OML thank you for this I have just started making art and was making the files in loads of difference sizes, what a headache but now I know I don't have to 💖
Thanks for a really helpful video. BTW, the ISO sizes are just called "A" "4". The word "Alpha" is never used when referring to them, as it just comes from the "A Series" of paper sizes.
Thanks Nikki force of habit. I work in nuclear so everything is pronounced phonetically... my brain knows it is AY 4 but I always say alpha because they tainted me forever
Thank you so much for this omg!! i’ve been wanting to start a digital downloads shop for days now but couldn’t figure out how to size my files. I searched for daysss and this is literally the only video i’ve found on this information 🤣
This video is great. I was so stressed out trying to wrap my head around the ratios. The explanation was simple and straightforward. I finally understand. Thank you!
Really thanks for this video. I watched several other videos but this is exactly what i want. The explanation is very clear and easy to understand. Thanks!!
Thank you so much!!! As someone that is starting to work with digital art now this video is a huge help. I was trying to figure these things out for quite a while and your video saved me!

HI, thanks for your great video. I got lost at the silhouette studio because I don't understand how big should my original photos be to make them those aspect ratios, Thanks
Really helpful video! I'm a traditional artist, but this video definitely helped untangle my brain around making sure customers can understand how to get their prints!
I watch several videos trying to get the sizing down. Your video was the most helpful and informative. If would have started here it would have saved me weeks of research. Thank you and you have a new subscriber. Looking forward to following you. Thank you once again for making it easy.
Thank you for sharing, I was confused about what sizes and how to start drafting my projects, since I am not a designer, but thanks to your help, I've got a solution for my question, thanks again, new subscriber !!
I find Epson Velvet fine art paper to be highly recommended. It comes 8 1/2x 11, 13 x 19, and 17 x22. Most other fine art paper come in these sizes, but they don't seem to match up with standard print size standards. Confused, as I would not like to have to trim paper. If I make art to fit these sizes, providing jpegs in the other print standards seems confusing. I do non-bleed images with white borders. Thanks for any insight.
@@ShootingStarSVG Hi. I have one question. The file you downloaded showed files of between 2 and 5MB. Mine are coming out at anything from 8 to 38 MB. I've got 300dpi at 7200x10800 for the 24x36 for example. I save as jpeg (from psd) as a high res image and get a jpeg of 37mb. What am i doing wrong?
Hi Laurie I would create the zip folder to include all relevant files for your item. If you're having trouble feel free to ask in the FB group (linked in the description) or email me shootingstarsvg@gmail.com
@@ShootingStarSVG Thank you-you are very generous with your time! I’m just absorbing everything you’ve been sharing-which is an extraordinary amount! I currently work within the paper craft industry, illustrating/designing rubber (well, now they’re clear photo polymer) stamps and the low profile metal dies that cut the stamped images out (I work with Adobe Illustrator). I have loved it, but feeling a desire to venture beyond and explore other things- when I got myself a Cricut at Christmas, I realized I might be able to transition into something else that would allow me to evolve creatively, and when I discovered you and your channel here on UA-cam, I about fell off my chair, LOL! Anyway, I’m working my way through your videos, which I appreciate more than I can say.
Thank you so much for the video please could you explain how to upload digital papers like 10 or 20 in a zip file. How do you resize them how many pixels with 300 dip. I really appreciate a lot.
Hello, thank you so much for the file and tips. I am having a huge problem with ratios, how to re-ratio my images without cropping them, do you have a suggestion? 🙏
I see Etsy digital download sellers offering various frame sizes for one piece of artwork. What I don't understand is, let's say a piece has the 2:3 aspect ration--yet these sellers are offering a wide variety of standard sizes (8x10, 11x14, 18x24, etc.), that is, sizes with different aspect ratios. How are they able to do this? The only way I can think of it to put differently-sized white borders around the images, but this wouldn't look good in standard sized frames.
It depends on if it is a full bleed work or not. In this case, if you're increasing size from a smaller photo you will have to use a cropping technique. If not you will have to matte like you said. I always recommend designing in the largest size possible and scaling down from there, never bigger
@@ShootingStarSVG Right. Then I have to assume that these sellers are cropping their images which I don't want to do! So I'm stuck with a limited range of size offerings.
I love your channel and this information is perfect. Thank you! Question: What format should my printable wall art be downloaded as, what would you recommend? Png, Pdf, Jpeg, Svg? The larger I size up (example, 24x36) Etsy won’t allow me to list. They want max 10mb. Ugh. So stressful.
@@ShootingStarSVG Hi again, as you are more experienced selling on Etsy, I am asking you: do I need to add a bleed for posters or cards?? For example, if and I am using the template 24 x 36 in, shall I add 0,5 in each side (24,1 x 36,1) or the customer /print service will know that 24 x 36 has a safe area of 0,5 in on each side, and I just have to be careful of my design within. I don't know if framing a poster/wall art needs or not a bleed and crop marks. Thank you in advance!
Thank you so much for this video!! I have watched countless ones trying to find out this exact info and you explained it so clearly. I appreciate the effort you put into this!
Thank you so much! This was extremely helpful determining essentially my whole future with art prints. They have always been super inconsistent beforehand, but after watching your video I feel like I can be more calculated and it’s less of a guessing game :)
I generally do 15x15 size art board for the PNG on case someone wants to use it on a t-shirt but it entirely depends on the medium you're designing for if that makes sense
Do you have a video on how to zip? And possibly exactly what that means? I've seen a zip file before, so I have an idea, but have no clue how to do it or software needed.
Thank you. How do you resize from different ratios without distorting the art if it's not vectors? For instance, people in a print get distorted going from one ratio to another.
ty im new great chart lol now i just hve to understand it all lol trying to figure out if i should use my New ipad take photos or my old point & click digital camera...of Canvas Acrylic Painting i have done.So new. I tried scan them old printer but Canvas are big cuts the image to much.
It would be a 7:5. I didn't include that one in the chart but you can still use it. It really kind of falls in it's own category like the 11x14 I just don't see it used as often.
I don't have or use Photoshop. Also, I take pics with my iPhone or iPad, but have no idea if the pics are 300dpi or not. Do you know how I can figure out what they resolution is with those devices?
Hi and thanks for making this video. Very very Helpful. I have an etsy shop selling Linocut Print and now I am working for open an other one for sell printable. I am getting crazy with this sizes:-) and I am a Graphic designer:-) I have still some doubts but after your video much better:-)
I shootingStar, h are you? I am having some technical doubts about the poster design I am doing for the shop. There is anyway I could ask and show you? By email? I can Imagine how many messages you are receiving so if you can't I will understand:-)
This is the most informative video I've come across on this topic. I almost gave up because I couldn't find what I was looking for but you explained it so well😭. Such a simple process. You're a godsend! Thank you so much, Tanya!!🥺
Not that I'm aware of. I think people will apply mats/borders around as they resize to ensure none of the full image is lost. I think it entirely depends on the buyers personal preference
That is normal especially if you're doing a full page print and not something with white space. You may want to consider including a mat if it is messing with the photo at all. Hopefully that makes sense
Great video! I would like to create all the sizes in a 2:3 ratio. If I’m understanding, I will only need to create a 24in x 36in design in CANVA and customers on Etsy can scale down the PDF size if they prefer. If that is the case, then I would like a better understanding of how that would work for the customer. For example, if I sale a 2:3 ratio PDF digital print and my customer would like a 4in X 6in. The customer will open a 24in X 36in PDF digital print and “make it smaller”? I’m having a hard time understanding what the customer will have to do to get their desire size.

Do you have a video on how to zip? And possibly exactly what that means? I've seen a zip file before, so I have an idea, but have no clue how to do it or software needed.
Check out this video on how to ZIP and UnZIP files

Thank you. How do you resize from different ratios without distorting the art if it's not vectors? For instance, people in a print get distorted going from one ratio to another.
I always recommend creating in the largest possible size so the distortion doesn't take place but it entirely depends on what you are creating
Thanks a lot. I get it now. I appreciate..
You are welcome!
ty im new great chart lol now i just hve to understand it all lol trying to figure out if i should use my New ipad take photos or my old point & click digital camera...of Canvas Acrylic Painting i have done.So new. I tried scan them old printer but Canvas are big cuts the image to much.
The iPads have a pretty good camera now. I would try both ways and see what gives you better results.
It’s so great having this chart. Thank you! Which aspect ratio does 5 x 7 fall under? Thanks in advance.
You should be able to right click on the file on your computer and click properties. It will show you the DPI/resolution
Hi and thanks for making this video. Very very Helpful. I have an etsy shop selling Linocut Print and now I am working for open an other one for sell printable. I am getting crazy with this sizes:-) and I am a Graphic designer:-) I have still some doubts but after your video much better:-)
Glad it was helpful! If there is anything you are looking for let me know
@@ShootingStarSVG Really thanks :-)
I shootingStar, h are you? I am having some technical doubts about the poster design I am doing for the shop. There is anyway I could ask and show you? By email? I can Imagine how many messages you are receiving so if you can't I will understand:-)
Happy to help shoot it over to info@shootingstarsvg.com
@@ShootingStarSVG is that an email or I have to go through the website?
Hello, can you tell which color model should we use for designing? CMYK or RGB ?
Thank you, great value ❤️
You're so welcome!
This is the most informative video I've come across on this topic. I almost gave up because I couldn't find what I was looking for but you explained it so well😭. Such a simple process. You're a godsend! Thank you so much, Tanya!!🥺
Glad this was helpful let me know if you need anything else
Great video and well explained!!! Thank you! You save my life!! 💕
So so helpful! Than you :)
Such a great video!
Glad you liked it!!
Do you now have the ratio for the 11 X 14?? Thanks for the information
11x14 is just one ratio on its own
For designing digital prints that will be framed is there a standard margin to be applied around the image so that people can frame?
Not that I'm aware of. I think people will apply mats/borders around as they resize to ensure none of the full image is lost. I think it entirely depends on the buyers personal preference
Thank you so much for this video! Just curious if you would happen to know how to save these different sizes in Illustrator.
This video was wonderful, thank you. But what in the world is an SPG?
SVG. Scalable Vector Graphic sorry for the typo
the numbers that are in the dpi columns.. if using canva, should I input those into the “pixel size” settings?? Please reply 🥲❤️
Also, another UA-cam said that some customers will open the zipped file in a program that won’t allow them to print. Have you had this issue???
Thank you so so SO much for this video! It was really helpful ♥
Glad it was helpful! Let me know if you need anything else
when I put in the sizes from A0 to A6, some are cropped a little bit. Is this ok and normal?
That is normal especially if you're doing a full page print and not something with white space. You may want to consider including a mat if it is messing with the photo at all. Hopefully that makes sense
This is very helpful, thank you for sharing this video!
You're welcome glad it helped!
Hi! what are the landscape sizes for wall art? Do I switch the portrait sizes around for landscape wall art sizes? Thank you?
That's correct just flip the ratio.
Yes the customer would size it down to print from the largest ratio
