Well Done Mike ... its like watching a RJB Wood turners video ;) ... cant wait to see you do some label casting pens like you did for Bob ... keep it up
Great video! I guess I'm not the only person hurting for space. I rent a basement in a house so I don't have my own garage. My landlord let me use a small corner of the garage for my midi lathe, bandsaw, and grinder. Everything else (casting & mini lathe is in my living room in the basement. LOL. I'm hoping to buy a small house in a year or so. Can't wait to see your build videos! Take care! Kimberly Frans
Thanks for watching Kimberly! Yes, I know the sting of a small shop all too well. Mine is actually 1/3 of a garage. The previous owners converted the other part into a bonus room for the house, which has now turned into the dogs' room. I'm saving for a detached building - one of those rent to own small barns that are pre-built and set on your land. I hope to get a 12 x 40 or something close to that size.
I have the very same drill press and my switch burned out also, I added a regular light switch to it. I wired it and put a couple drops of .CA glue to hold it in place it has worked for a couple years now. I am not saying it's the right way to fix it but it works.
I actually considered this solution myself John. I figured the replacement part was going to be expensive, but it's only $10, I just need to get it ordered - and soon, because I need that press for a job! Thanks for watching!
nice little shop. you seem to be able to do lots of different things for such a small shop. what do you do with the items you make? also, no walk in door? looking forward to more videos :>)
Hi Russ! I am set up to do several things, but my passion right now is turning. I mainly make pens, but I have been know to create segmented vessels, bowls, and other turned items. I try to sell as much as I can to support my hobby, and I give away a lot of turned items as presents and gifts. No, there's no walk in door. It's what is left of a converted attached garage. Thanks for watching! Mike
Thanks! I love that pen vise. I originally started with the Rockler pen vice / blank holder, which was fine for slimlines. As soon as I moved into the bigger kits, that quickly became outdated. There just isn't enough force in their 'vice' to assemble those.
Hi Kris, I'm using Davinci Resolve - an open source video editor. It very robust, and there is a studio version available for around $300, but as long as the free version meets my needs, I'm sticking with it. I've been watching a few tutorials here on YT, so expect some better production value in the future :) Mike
Thanks for the tour. Enjoy your presentations. Keep 'em coming. Dave, Beachmere Australia

John,
That is quite the complement. If I can do half as good a job as RJB, I'll consider myself a lucky man!
Thanks for watching!
Mike
I have the same tool cart. For the price you can't beat it!
Isn't it though? It seems that companies like SnapOn or even Craftsman have forgotten about the hobbyist or weekend mechanic.
Great video nice shop. :)
Thanks David.
It's close quarters, but that just means everything is within reach ;)
Thanks for watching!
