    Very informative talk. As Hindu scholars gain more experience talking back to the West, their confidence will only continue to grow. This is what is needed at this critical juncture. Keep up the good work. Namaste.

    I am inspired to learn Sanskrit systematically after listening to Ms Sharda's presentation. It's also very satisfying to see Indians researching on Indology. Thank you Madam.

    We need to create a word class institution with these people at the helm. We need to pressurise the Indian government to do it.

      sanch Sanchayan we've to do it it ourselves. at best we can hope that Indian government will give it official sanction and patronage down the line.

    This speaker is excellent! Very happy that Swadeshi Indology conference brings such gems to a wider public. Its the start of a more balanced & fair debate.We can put the pretentious western sanskrit "experts" in their place

    That was a great presentation. She explained, in an easy to understand manner, the shallowness of Pollock's work. She seems to be able to combine modern scientific thinking (concepts such as singularity) with the study of ancient systems of thought.
    It would be great if you could have Sharda do more videos, each a short one explaining a single issue with the clarity of thought she displays. It is likely to have a much wider appeal than longer, more academic discussions.

    I like this lecture. Good critique of Sheldon Pollock. It good to hear about certain Biblical aspects too. It shows how carefully Sharda Narayanan approaches this subject. Well done. Seen on 4th Feb 2020 in London.

    Enlightening talk, we learned a lot . I wonder if Dr.Sharada has written on these topics. Such talks should be published at least as booklets as and when they are delivered, so that we can study them in detail at leisure . The game of Western Sanskrit scholars so called has to be exposed and has to reach a wider Indian audience.

    Excellent talk! There were few chuckles when the speaker said, "... Pollock saw it from rakshas's point of view and not Kalidasa's point of view..." Needless to say what guNas Pollock is imbued with. Hence the chuckles.

    • @shardanarayanan9299
      @shardanarayanan9299 7 років тому +2

      Thank you. There is no word that can be translated as "force" in Kalidasa"s title. Valour and force are very different things. And we cannot doubt Prof.Pollock's prowess in English!

    • @V12F1Demon
      @V12F1Demon 6 років тому

      @@shardanarayanan9299 What if Pollock meant 'strength' instead of 'force'? Would that complement valour? I'm totally unfamiliar with this subject but it seems to me really odd that someone would mix up a title for a case of lost in translation. I've translated a little Italian into English of ancient Roman texts and find that we commit a huge disservice to the source with even small inaccuracies.

    Excellent presentation. "If they derive neither joy nor enlightenment from Sanskrit studies, why do they do it at all?" Somebody needs to ask Pollock et al this question publicly.

      Thank you. Unfortunately Sanskrit studies in the West do not seem to be motivated by healthy quest for knowledge. It is much easier to quantify what the Western Indologists have to gain from such biased studies of classical India.

    I have read few times. I have read Koran few times.
    As for the bible, any intellectual reading of initial 20-30 pages would clearly indicate it was scripted to politically rule some tribals of Arabia in those times. Must have been composed after a couple of Centuries after the death of Christ. The explanation about start of the universe, human race etc can be amusing to read! Women is supposed to have been formed from the left rib of the first man! Rest all stitch ups by different individuals with different ideas about how to expand the following and drive Christianity for the future! The way it enslaves every ONE to be the Sinners by birth and vesting power to Church and Fathers to clear the Sins has led to abuse of masses at a scale and the scale of tragedies untold! Of Course, there is no higher spiritual discussions about the "Self".
    As for Koran, any intellectual unbiased reading would indicate that the subject matters are NOT compiled in Order! Very inconsistent in explaining the 7th Century Arabian God Allah and then for a questioning mind, it can't answer how to grasp that Nirakaar (formless) Allah while that the Allah being merciful and his merciful action is physical! Again, there is no talk about "Self" at all! Heaven is explained as something UP there. While heaven is explained as place with free access to sense luxuries like women and wine in abundance, how that can be experienced post death is not explained! Female is reduced to "a Thing"! Again, so much power vested in the Religious Leaders to punish that in turn the scale of abuse and the resultant tragedies untold! Can go on and on!! As per some of the Muslim Scholars, it is a mix of Judaism and Christianity in theory mixed and forced on masses with Pagan rituals!
    In my view, Scholars in Vedic Literatures need to just focus on researching on possible future evolution by way of bringing ancient wisdom back! And the literature should be Indian Vernacular (because, Indians can easily think in those languages - being their mother tongue!)

    There are plenty of excellent Indian scholars of Hinduism and Sanskrit but unfortunately the British gave us an inferiority complex so many Indians, especially of the Leftist persuasion, think that Western scholars are better, which is mostly not the case. Than you, Sharda, for your talk.

      Many British delved into Hinduism with interest. Its the communists and Iskonites and Ambedkarites who needs to open their eyes and realise that seeing Hinduism purely from a caste point of view is their own ignorance.

    And it puzzles me ROHAN MURTHY sponsor of Murthy Classical Library still defends Pollock (brainwashed by N Ram., Girish Karnaad and of course his father ( ex-marxist?) Narayana Murthy. His mother Sudha Murthy visits RK Ashram Manthralaya Even Narayan Murthy made piligrimage to Manthralaya with traditional attire. What is is dichotomy. Sudha Murthy attends lecture by stalwarts like S L Bhyrappa, Shathaavadhani Ganesh

    In my view: One general statement to say, "The Western Languages do not have the words and phrases to explain / cover in depth about any other than the obvious materials / sciences. Hence, those scholars who came from such backgrounds could not grasp to any valuable depth, however they tried, ancient Vedic Literatures (which inherently requires one to develop thinking in that language itself!)

    I like the arguments Hindus used against Buddhism here could be used just as easily against Hinduism itself. More so, even. I mean, who alive today has first hand knowledge the veracity of the Vedas? Who by reason alone would ever come to the conclusion that worshiping all these gods is conducive to anything other than superstition? And saying "we don't accept the Buddhist cannon because they came from rocks and walls" is so hilarious. Taking a figure of speech literally like that isn't a sign of cleverness; it's usually a sign of some form of autism.

    I really don't know how or why is it of any consequence or of any use to talk about what the westerners analyse Vedic Sanskrit Literatures or Literatures in Grantha Bhasha!!
    In my view, the very knowledgeable lady would do a great service to future students and Jijnasus just by putting focus on simplifying the Ancient Theories presented in Complex Sanskrit formulation in to simple statements in current vernacular languages of India like Hindi, Kannada, Tamil etc. That will enable future Students to pursue further exploration in depth in to the knowledge in those Texts!
    I feel sorry to say, lot of effort but of little or of no consequence to future generations who would like to explore the ancient knowledge hidden in those texts!

    So much witch hunting of British. Totally high schooler view point. Why don’t they do this, why don’t they do that
    Whole discussion pretty much sums up mindset of Mimasa and Brahmins. Assume full authority then call others for discussion. Totally out dated concept in this day and age

      This comment is full of emotion, no reasoning, much like the research papers themselves.
      Neither Pollock nor Bronkhorst are British. If the shallowness of their arguments are shown, why does it smart? It is because of the superiority complex of the westerner. In the garb of analysing Mimamsa and offering expert opinion, the westerner is still struggling to understand Mimamsa. They study it only to further their career opportunities, our Saraswati Devi appears as Lakshmi Devi. While nobody will bother with their research writings in the next century with changing fashions and agenda, Mimamsa will endure. It may be interesting to see the intellectual acumen of Brahmin-baiters focussed on analysing tenets of Abrahamic religions in a comparative study and make their views public. That would be good entertainment in the academic world.

      Upright Walking Ape, refute a single point in this video , instead of projecting emotions.
      A very very simple translation which a high schooler CAN make, looking at the word Nakshatramaala, and then further OPENING the book and seeing 27 chapters...... will prevent a shoddy mistranslation into “Milky Way”
      🤦🤦🤦

    Brahmin isn't by birth then you force upanayana on people who are not into any priestly kind of work, then stop doing upanayana declare them as non Brahmins do it for one generation, Hinduism will be back in track, otherwise revival is just a fairy tale, teaching advaita saying that all is one and at the same time maintaining caste hierarchy isn't gonna help.
