Just found your channel and been ripping through your GOT playlist. probably my favourite reactions to the show thus far. Insightful commentary and honestly some points of view that other reactors (nor myself when watching original airings) didn't have. Your understanding of how this world works has been spot on since day one. Jaime can’t rule Casterly Rock because he’s a Kings Guard. They give up their right to own land or have children. That’s why Tywin threatened Olena with naming Loris to the Kings Guard if she didn’t agree to marry him to Cercei, and why Tywin had to try to trick Jaime into retiring from the Kings Guard (it’s a lifetime position) by threatening to execute Tyrion so he could take over Casterly Rock and further the family line. Cercei is a woman duty-bound to marry into another family so she can’t take over, Tyrion is a condemned criminal so even if the family wanted to give it to him they can’t now, so that leaves Keven Lannister.
Didn't Cersei become Lady of Casterly Rock after Tywin's death in the books though? I could be wrong about that however.
@@darth856 What happens in the books doesn’t matter in the show. She’s set to marry Loris and be the lady of Highgarden. She can’t be the lady of Casterly Rock if she’s Cercei Tyrell.

10:07 It's messed up because Qyburn represents what early science was. It was shunned by the church a lot of times because realistically, you can't find out if something will help someone or hurt someone when it comes to medicine until you try it on a living person. Some civilizations accepted it, others didn't. And a lot of the times it's because science had to be barbaric in order to achieve advancement and new discoveries. The church saw it as an abomination and unnatural, which is what the shows mirrors with Pycelle and Qyburn.

Lord COMMANDER! First I teared up with the loyalty of Bear island, refusing Stannis. As she says the only KING they will follow is a STARK. 😭 And I’ll never forget Sam’s speech. CHILLS. “The commander we turned to when th night was darkest.” Ok, gonna go 🥺🥺🥺cry now…. As you know, Jon’s scenes provide some of the most 😭 emotional.

I understand Dany executing the young ex slave guy. He broke the law. But her mistake was that she should have given me a trial as well. She was willing to give the formal master a trial but not the ex slave? That will be a problem no matter what the situation. Sadly though. I think the young dude was always right about the issues in that city.

From what I understand, when Jaime joined the kings guard he gave up all right to inherit so with Tyrion being on the run and Cersei being a woman, Casterly Rock would be passed onto the next living male which would be Tywins brother

It is more or less like the Robert/Stannis situation.
This is not entirely true. Inheritance always goes first to the eldest living son, then to the eldest living daughter. That would mean with Jaime in the King's Guard and Tyrion in exile, that Cersei would be next in the line of succession, then her children, and then Tywin's siblings.
@@smailom1170 And with Joffrey dead and Tommen being the king, it would be logical to assume Casterly Rock is his to give to anyone he wants, a la Robert with Storm's End. One could assume he would give it to Myrcella, but it may not exactly be considered her right, as the lord is still Tommen (again, a la Robert-Stannis-Renly with Storm's End). So it makes sense to think that Kevan is some sort of regent or castillan of Casterly Rock, until Tommen decides what to do with it, Myrcella grows up and/or has kids.

Casterly Rock only needs a castellan because Cersei is not available as Lady of Casterly Rock because she would rather be Tommen's regent. Kevan even urges her to return to the Rock in AFFC, but Cersei is just Cersei....
Tommen is king but not yet the Lord of Casterly Rock as long as Cersei is still alive.
And as said before the law is something completely different and Tommen can ignore it or create some kind of exceptional case for himself and do the same as Robert did for Renly and Storm's End.

Kevan (Tywin's Brother) does now rule over Casterly Rock.
Jaime is a member of the Kingsguard, he has forsaken all rights to any inheritance. Cersei is a woman, and therefore cannot inherit. Tyrion is a condemned traitor. Cersei's children are also out of the line of inheritance: Joffrey is dead, Myrcella is a girl, and Tommen is set to inherit the Throne. The "main branch" of the Lannister family, Tywin, his children and his grandchildren, are dead or otherwise barred from inheriting Casterly Rock or any other part of what Tywin considered his legacy.
You could make the argument that perhaps Tommen could be both King and Lord of Casterly Rock, but that isn't clear, and even if that were the case, he'd need someone to rule as regent for him while he is still so young.
It's a very complicated dynamic, but speaking purely from a legal perspective, Kevan is completely in the right with what he is doing here.

So that massive statue at Braavos is actually not just for show, there are places for archers to sit behind cover and keep invading ships out. Braavos is a cutthroat city, but also one of the safest from outside influences, especially since its home of The Iron Bank, which even Tywin acknowledged as more or less Westeros' IRS.
Ellaria needs to chill out, Oberyn died in a legally sanctioned trial by combat. It sucks and its sad, but Oberyn played himself and realistically, they'd be contending with both The Lannisters and Tyrells, since House Tyrell is allied to Lannister by marriage.
Kevan Lannister would be the regent/steward of Casterly Rock in place of there being no legitimate heir. Tyrion is a wanted criminal and Jaime cannot hold lands as a knight in The King's Guard. I think technically then, lordship would eventually fall onto Lancel Lannister as he's Kevan's legitimate son.
Jon is too much like Ned to take up Stannis' offer, even if it was a damn good one with little to no downsides. I also adore Sam here, he knew Alliser would make Jon miserable and so he endorsed him and made a compelling argument in his favor. Lo and behold, it worked albeit barely. Aemon coming in clutch!

Baristan's right in what he's telling Dany. It's not right to make a virtue out of ruling by an iron fist. You need a force of moderation. We have seen her conquerer. This is the first time we're really seeing her rule and the whole "ruling is lying on a bed of weeds, ripping them out by the root, one by one, before they strangle you in your sleep" thing as Cersei had cynically said, is not going so well for her.

Jon can't be Lord of Winterfell because he's a bastard, unless he is legitimized; but the north would turn into a civil war between factions: Bran, Rickon, Sansa and Arya ALL come before him.

Barristan Selmy telling the Dragon Queen about her Father, while the burden of ruling is already driving her into the same pitfalls. She is in a moral quandry, whether to compromise with the nobles of Mereen or whether to rule by terror? She's growing increasingly self assured, coupled with a growing intolerance to dissent. Rigidity leads to brash decisions. Brienne's quest aaffc and Adod is far longer and completely futile, she doesn't find Sansa. But it would be impractical to waste limited amount of tv time on a wild goose chase, so they shortened it up to having her be rejected by both the Stark children. This is perfectly tailored to the context of a tv show.

I personally think she should've given him a trial, I guess cause he admitted to doing it but I think that atleast privately doing it would look better, and it would also take the responsibility off her hands.

The new Lord Commander Came down to 3 men:
Denys Mallister, Cotter Pyke and Janos Slynt, votes were such that Janos was leading but Mallister and Pyke together outnumbered his yet the two men always disagreed so Samwell went from Sam the slayer to Sam the Player and got them each to throw their votes to Jon Snow... the new LC.

Yeah she has a right to be pissed. At a dead man. Oberyn was more responsible for his death than the mountain was. Aside from failing to end the fight when he clearly could have. It was a fight he volunteered for. On the bright side. His role in ensuring Tyrion had to be executed. Did ultimately lead to Tywin being killed. So even the person he had a vendetta against is dead. This is all on her at this point.

Jaime gave up his rights to Casterly Rock when he joined the Kingsgaurd. Cersi being a woman and a Baratheon by marriage has no rights to it either. We always forget she should have the Baratheon name but being Tywins daughter thru n thru we will only ever see her as a Lannister

As far as Dany goes: My thought then was, wow. I knew potential had been their for her to be a hardliner. We’d seen it. But never against someone we empathized for. Left me with bad taste in my mouth.
In regards to Daenerys executing Mossador, there was no point in giving him a trial because he had already confessed to the murder in front of her. This was also about showing the people of Mereen, former slaves and former masters alike, that the law would be applied to both groups equally. Daenerys had to show the former masters that she would not be more lenient towards the former slaves due to her own biases. As a ruler she can't let herself be clouded by emotion and has to be neutral when handing out a sentence, just like a judge should in a court of law. In the books Mossador is actually an Unsullied and one of Missandei's 3 brothers who were also enslaved alongside her but he's not executed in the books.

Jamie could not inherit because he was Kingsguard, and Tyrion could obviously not either because he was convicted, so Kevan inherited because he was the oldest male in the line.

Yes I love how Daenerys listens to her advisors & she understands what her father was. I love how Kevan Lannister also put Cersei in her place just like his big brother Tywin. Yes Jaime is a kingsguard so he doesn’t inherit & Tyrion is exiled. So yes Casterly rock goes to Kevan as Tywin’s male heir only if Cersei was his only heir it would be hers. Yes greyscale is a terrible disease & princess shireen was one of the only people cured when she was a baby. Love the election & how Sam spoke up for Jon!! She was trying to show that no matter former slave or former master the law is the law & you will be punished. The people didn’t like that tho I think she should’ve cut off his hand or something but I love how Drogon came back when she was in danger. Can’t wait for you to get more into this season!!
