Bikes with their exhausts down low like this MT are very tricky to capture sound-wise! I'm sorry for the wind noise but since I had this bike for less than an hour to do my video I couldn't experiment with my recording setup to get a cleaner result. I hope you're still able to enjoy the RAW :)

I have a Tracer 700 and with the H2N input level on 5, under the seat, I get a nice sound. Not just from the engine but also from the gearbox.

A MT 07 and a exhaust is always a good match, mainly because if it's CP2 engine.
Technically it's not a crossplane, as a crossplane crankshaft actually news to have 4 cylinders.
This just has a 270° crankshaft. Yamaha just call it a CP2 (crossplane 2 cyl) as a marketing strategy. To hopefully sell more bikes.
But the 270° crank in a parallel cylinder is amazing.

Bit of a shame Yamaha don't build an SP version like the MT09, better suspension, radial brakes, rider modes (track, sport and rain) etc. The CP2 engine deserves better and by the look of it the new R7 has failed!!!

Tried the MT07 and MT09 and came to the same conclusion. The suspensions are way too soft and even scary when cornering aggressively on less than ideal pavement. In my opinion, Yamaha makes bikes with a lot of character but the character comes almost exclusively from their crossplane engine, low weight and short overall gearing. Their bikes need much better suspension and brake components to be considered competitive now. Yamaha has pretty mediocre build quality too, lots of cheap plastic and exposed ugly bits unlike Honda. Feels like they only put money in the engine.

Yamaha really screwed over the 2021 MT-07 owners... The MT-03 and R7 got the upgraded suspension with the upside down forks, the while the new MT-07 still has the same sh*tty, unadjustable suspension.

@@SametALTUNSOY exactly. Yamaha knows they have a good, basic package that’s really competitive on price (the sales figures don’t lie). Most buyers won’t know or care that the suspension isn’t top spec, and the ones that really do care will probs buy better aftermarket components.

I'm all for innovation but what the heck did they do to the design seriously. Even the screen was a signature for this model but now it looks like one of those Honda screens.

E sulla ciclistica anche lì no comment, superiore di brutto. Del resto costa molto di più. È stata la prima volta in cui ho letto che la 660 non è piaciuta granché ....ed è strano perché lui moto ne ha provate e sa guidare...
yea, the Tuono is a class higher and therefore it is not really fair to compare. In the class of the Tuono you'll find the MT-09 engine which definitely is way more impressive ;)
Hey Schaaf! I've got the same bike you were riding in this video but I changed the suspension with Wilbers and now is completely different bike. How do you find Michelin Road 5's on this bike? Can they keep up with your riding style or would you suggest to go with more of a sporty tyre? Thanks
I'd take more sporty tires. The Road 5s are great in the wet but other tires manage to do that as well while definitely giving more stability when riding fast. I'm a big fan of Rosso IV if they have them in your dimensions.
i just got a 2015 model before i had a 2006 honda cbf 500 abs same engine like the honda you had only speed sensor in the gearbox and did not ride for 4 years the mt 07 is the perfect bike for me i know how tyo ride bike but i am rusty and i like more cc i had before and the low end torq thats the most fun of this engine you can win at a trafficlight from most bikes even bigger bikes they only beat you on the highway so really nice bike i think

Nice riding, new to MC so watching good riders with my bike to perhaps learn. 6:37 braking *and* downshifting *at the same time* followed by trial braking into the corner? or was it just regular down shifting?
On the road I don't really do trail braking. On this kind of grippy tarmac it is not necessary for my kind of riding. I'm very gentle and smooth with my leaning
Schaaf how ergonomic of this bike is in your opinion? Is it good for people 185-187 cm height?
Second I heard that pain quality of this Yamaha MT-07 2021 and up is not good. My friend had this bike (2022 year) and after 2k kilometres paint from front headlight (side plastic covers) are gone in edges. In my opinion Yamaha now cut cost on the paint. It is not acceptable anymore. I am suprised because I am Yamaha fan and it is very sad.
I can't tell, sorry. I'm 184cm but I never rode the bike longer than 20min. For short runs it was perfectly fine

The stock exhaust on my 2021 is great. I use it for longer rides so its no fun if it's too loud. It just has to be loud enough for cars to hear you when line splitting...

The 650 isn't the best performing of its class either. Plus I'm not a big fan of "smaller" 4 cylinder engines

@@Schaaf Why are you not a fan of a small inline4 motor? Something like the only asian market Kawasaki zx250r is something I'd love to get my hands on.
Unless you want to go fast small motors aren't for you, but you can use all the gears way better if you're not doing 100kmh in first gear. I can hardly fully use the first 3 gears of my cb500f without doing illegal things on the road.

You don't have to hold on. You just sit and gravity does the rest
The MT-07 suspension isn't even comfortable though. It's soft but you get bounced around a lot because there's not enough damping (on my 2015 model anyway).

Totally agree. I upgraded my Tracer 700 suspension with a progressive, adjustable stystem for 130 euros. Not too expensive and it makes such a difference. Increased stability in the corners; excellent braking under heavy load. Totally transforms an already excellent bike!

As a trident owner and new rider myself, and having learnt on the MT07, I wholeheartedly agree about the suspension on both, the MT feels loose and doesn’t feel as comfortable as the trident.
And with both restricted to 35kW, the trident manages to feel as torquey, but somehow also much more full in the high revs too, the brakes also feel way better, with the rear brake being surprisingly powerful (the MT’s felt too weak).
Triumph really managed to make the best beginner naked, as long as you can avoid looking at the welds on the frame and exhaust (the muffler particularly). Gotta cut corners somewhere I guess.

I rode a second hand MT-07 for a week or so and I had no confidence in the front suspension, it was always like it was trying wonder off somewhere else and not where I trying point it. I own a R7, a totally different beast, a lot of confidence and not at all wobbly even in stock form. Love the torque'y twin which is realistically more than enough to keep one entertained on the street... Remove the airbox snorkel for a quick de-restrict.

Thus is what an Yamaha R7 gonna sounds like. R7 is a lighter more sporty version of the MT-07. Cant wait to see R7s soon with an aftermarket exhaust. Going to buy one if ever I have money.

I loved mine and I totaly agree with your verdict - unfortunately all the goodies went into the R7 it seems. As for the sound, it's not loud but it's not bad either. In fact I could hear it quite well even with ear plugs wearing an AGV Sportsmodular.
