I was in an Artist Way study in 1993-1994, it was a wonderful experience. I just gave copies to my grown daughters 🌀

Thank you for this wonderful interview! I did The Artists Way almost three years ago! It changed my life! I believe it is a book that everyone must read and do! I have not stopped doing morning pages since, and my relationship with God has changed profoundly!❣️❤️😍

I have read bits of Jullia's books and come back to them, but the jury is out for me on morning pages. It is great to meditate as a morning ritual but to write all the corners of my mind early each and every morning, I dont know sometimes I feel that could be more traumatising. For me I don't really always want to document this in hard copy. It is not necessarily a way of getting it out of me. I wonder what you think? I understand it is good to clear, but there is some evidence in psychology to show that reliving events causes trauma as well. It does not allow you to move on. Some people I know put things in boxes and close them. Not sure if that is right either. But -------------

Have you worked through the program and done the morning pages on a consistent and continuous basis? I ask because it’s often that I see people write up articles with these concerns but I don’t often see as many people speak about how it has actually unblocked and healed trauma for them as it has for me. For over a decade I’ve done a variety of self help, talk therapy and other forms of therapy, support groups, daily sitting meditation and I cannot tell you how much this program especially the pages as she emphasizes have literally opened my world in ways other support could not. Consistently committing to TAW was the catalyst to my healing from enmeshment trauma and abuse in adulthood as well. They also have helped my ADHD and OCD symptoms. I could attest so much on this. But at the same time I realize that everyone is different and responds to different methods, tools, etc. TAW has clearly become a way of life for me now. My second time doing the program was the first time I fully completed it. Now I’m on a third go and I know I’ll finish. I struggled to finish anything creative or general prior to TAW. Oh, also the concept of uprooting the past... I wouldn’t force recovery on anyone. I 100% understand why some will never do recover. It can be awful and my own at first did push me towards suicide attempt. But I might have gone that path even if I hadn’t had therapy uproot it but other triggers. When we are ready we are ready and it’s a challenging road of work. I have a sibling who will not do any therapy and has all kinds of issues caused by our upbringing. I don’t blame him for not wanting to do anything about his situation. I believe people do not seek recovery/healing until they are in a significant enough amount of pain and suffering that pushes them to want change.

M R thank you for your kind and considered response. I’m reading through again as you say the first is often not enough. Thanks again for going to all this effort and sharing your journey. I agree talk therapies for me go around and around

Deborah Davis I hope it does shift you in any way. I notice even my friends who would take it on for a week or two would experience shifts. They didn’t continue and wouldn’t admit the shifts, but I could see it happening for them. For example one of my friends who is quite depressed and definitely blocked is now chipping away at a procrastinated project with new outlook. They also took the risk and signed up for the program they were afraid to embark on but which is their dream. I think it’s so worth it to give any efforts we deep down do want to do a shot - even if they “result in ‘failure’ “ even the failures in execution of projects as well as the rejections I’ve had have pointed me in a new direction that actually made more sense in the grand scheme of my life as a creative. So we never really know. Many blocked artists just want to plan everything and have so much control ...which is just not how creating works. I also recommend checking out Wu Wei and the Art of Effortless Living. Oh wow is the concept of wu wei incredible for understanding creativity. Hope you reach more expansive territory you obviously want. This is the territory you belong in and as you get a larger trust in the process it just expands. Artists Way first time was magnificent. Now round two this year I am in Week 9. I cannot even tell you how synchronistic life is becoming. Much of this is in synchronicity to what’s even discussed in TAW Week itself. I would have denied it years ago. I would have been skeptical last year but curious. Now I am enthused and trusting more than I ever could in life. Life is becoming more magical - even in a shit financial place etc now I am getting new opportunities I need for developing my craft and so on. I am excited for you!
