- Aerospace Bristol is an aerospace museum at Filton, to the north of Bristol, England. The project is run by the Bristol Aero Collection Trust and houses a varied collection of exhibits, including Concorde Alpha Foxtrot, the final Concorde to be built and the last to fly.[1]
The museum is situated on Filton Airfield and the main exhibition is housed in a First World War Grade II listed hangar,] A second hanger from the same era, also Grade II listed, is used as the workshop and storage area for items undergoing restoration, with Concorde exhibited in a new, purpose-built hangar. The exhibits cover over 100 years of aviation history through two world wars, exploring the role of aircraft in these conflicts, through the drama and technological advances of the space race and on to the modern day.

My partner worked on the development of Concorde from 1962. He was in the development engineers’ department and went on to be personal assistant to Mr Harper. He also worked on material costings and tells some great stories about his time at Filton. He has a binder named Designer Concepts. I think that it should be in a museum.
Had a brother who worked at filton in the 1970s in the paint shop.....this is why I have a vintage BSA motorcycle that has light green undercoat and white topcoat that is good for Mach 2 . It was amazing what you could get from filton aircraft works if you knew the right person 👍
If they added sound effects of it taking off that would sure blot out the sound of screeming kids! They were nice planes and I was fortunate enough to see them flying over me almost every day, followed them on airband & shortwave radio and even watched one go through the sound barrier from Martin Down as it accelerated down the Severn Estuary. Then completely by chance I won a ticket to fly in one for free! That included a quick visit to the cockpit while we were dong 1350mph. Happy memories.
I have 4 kids. All grown. I have 2 granddaughters, but let me tell you, other people's kids, erk the f**k out of me. It's like the parents don't care if their children run around like wild animals. But Matt, that was fun and interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The simulater in the cop pit was cool. I would have loved to have been there with you. 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 Also,Matt, you had a nose hair that was winking at everything. 😉😘🧡🧡

My Grandad worked on Concorde. He died there at his desk in his 60s. I still have the money tin he used to keep things in that he kept on his desk
So glad to see her under cover now. I remember when she spent years stuck by the side of the runway at Filton, exposed to all the weather could throw at her. I did not even realise she was at Filton until we bought our son a flying lesson for a birthday present at Filton. I believe Alpha Foxtrot was the last Concorde to fly, must have been an emotional experience for the crew and people on the ground at Filton when she came in for her a final landing at the place of her birth. Such beautiful aircraft. Back in the 90's I lived in Battersea, and every evening Concorde would come in from New York, she looked stunning banking around over London to line up for Heathrow, especially with the sun shining off her. I also remember years ago driving past Heathrow and seeing 4 Concorde's parked up at Heathrow - a wonderful sight.

I was there at Filton when Alpha-Fox landed for the last time, 20 years ago this coming Sunday! (26th Nov 2003). A day or two later, whilst it was being de-commissioned by BA engineers in the end bay of the Brabazon Hangar, I managed to get in because I knew the security guard. We went inside and sat in the captain's seat with all the lights on and the ventilation system running. There was too many other people around to wander in the passenger cabin, but I'll never forget how small it felt, sat up the front in the pilots seat. Despite the fact that she could never fly again because manufacturer engineering support was (going) to be withdrawn, and it would not be safe to do so because of integrity issues over the metal-honeycomb bonded joints in the control surfaces and other parts, BA were adamant of the fact and pulled all the safety systems (parachute slides etc) and a few avionic bits and the whole lot went in a skip! It was also sad to see the full-axis motion Concorde simulator get a similar treatment. Though it has been resurrected from the dead at the Brooklands museum (clever chaps!) unfortunately it has no motion. Those parents are taking their kids there when they are too young to know the difference!
That was a Smashing tour really enjoyed it ,and good steady unrushed camera work.
Concorde is cool. I visited the concorde museum on barbados a few years back :) we could walk through the whole plane and even sit and test the comfort.
Yeah but this is the UK and we are tight arses and try to control everything... lol

I was an apprentice living on Filton airffield in Barnwell Hall (now demolished) back in 1969 when Concorde 002 made its maiden flight. I managed a flight on the Vulcan which was used as a flying testbed for the RB199 engine (powered the Tornado). as well as various flights on the VC10 flying testbed for the RB211 engine (for the Lockheed Tristar). Wasn’t aware of this museum! Must pay a visit sometime.
In Yeovol Air Museum they have a prototype Concorde, you get to walk all the way through. I found it quite restrictive the seats are really close together, worse than planes of today. Great video
Such was the trade off to have a Mach 2 airliner which would supercruise at altitude (no reheat after a certain Mach... 1.4 or 1.7 .. )
I think aircraft look beautiful they are very impressive.

Worked at Filton for 11 years , so can recall these Belfast hangars being used for storage or just empty. Plus they had the Rolls Royce spitfire & also Rob lampoons P51 mustang. I guessing where Concorde is was possibly the hangar that BA built to house their spare parts , plus one of the prototype Concordes 002 I think!

Great video. Brooklands museum in Weybridge Surrey also has a Concorde “Delta Golf” and they have tours where you are able to sit on the seats and experience during a simulated flight what it would’ve been like to fly on Concorde which includes lighting effects and seat movement. They also have the only original British flight simulator which was used to train the Concorde pilots, where people can book a gold or silver simulator experience alongside a previous Concorde pilot.
Manchester has one also, but you can only visit the cockpit and sit in the pax compartment. Not complaining mind! I don't believe they have a simulator at Manchester though. It's been a while since I visited.

Can get close up to Concorde at Manchester aviation viewing centre for free less the parking charge of course but I paid £1.20 to see one, you have to pay to get on it and explore but thanks for saving me £20
I remember when concord came to Duxford and my friend and I went on board and the guys looking after it said don't touch anything as it was still live and it was stunning sitting in the cockpit! Then years later I was a member of a fan club and they did a charter flight for those that booked it to go down to Egypt to see the pyramid! It was just fantastic when it launched itself down the runway and in the air and it started to go to supersonic speeds and you felt a gentle nudge as you were pushed back into your seat! It's such a shame it stopped flying frankly!
hey Matt you were kind of right when you thought that the projector was digital but it certainly isn't a "chinese knock-off", m-vision is the company name and they make projectors for home and commercial cinemas, that one you pointed out is called the Laser 18K, a single chip DLP projector with 18,000 lumens (probably why you thought it was bright), oh and it costs £25,500. 🤔🤔

I'm sure someone has commented this but incase they haven't, that hot ' 'antenna' thing is a drain for grey water and is heated to prevent freezing in-flight and then there is a fuel tank in the aft fuse below the hertical stab which fuel is transferred to at high speed in order to prevent an aerodynamic flaw known as 'mach tuck'. Hope this helps!

One of my life regrets in the late 1970,s while serving at Brize Norton Concorde used to do crew training there at certain times well the offer came up of a jolly flight out to the Bay of Biscay for Brize personnel and my name came out of the hat and I turned it down because of an all ready pre arranged trip to the Ideal Home Exhibition with the Mrs on that day she did say after I should have gone of course one of the lads I knew that did go said it was absolutely fantastic
I had the fortunate opportunity to watch the Concord land and takeoff at Pearson international airport in Toronto Canada. It was pretty amazing. I’m betting you would have loved to have flown on that bird, at least once in a lifetime. I know that I did.

Seen it once when it landed at hurn airport , it was spectacular to see .
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I visited Filton on 8th November and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I thought the admission price was very reasonable - especially if you take the time to read the information boards on each of the displays. At least that saves someone taking a wild guess about the display content and and then misinforming their viewers. I spent around 4 hours there, so a little under £5 per hour. Kids ehh, making a noise, old people chattering away and walking slowly, getting in the way of what you wanted to see, I bet they even got a concession entry price - bloody inconsiderate of them all I guess. And all that on top of your free admission by using someone else's returner ticket, so you didn't even pay to go in. How else are quality museums such as this supposed to survive when a tight arsed UA-camr won't cough up to enter in the first place and then gives what I consider to be a fairly poor review of a great museum. Like I said - everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I visited RNAS Yeovilton air museum about 14yrs ago and Concorde was an exhibit. By coincidence it was their open day with many air displays going on, so I had the place virtually to myself to explore. They have an observation area within the museum to watch the comings and going’s of the airbase, from which I watched the Vulcan(one of its last) and the Black cats helicopter display. It was worth every Penny and I only went there as it was chock a block northbound on the M5 and I was sat by the junction for it. Result! 😁👍
Btw it’s a far better museum than Bristol. Next on my list is to visit Duxford to see Bravo November, the Chinook that’s the equivalent to the Millennium Falcon amongst the British forces.😊

Great video, Matthew! I've always wanted to see Concorde and I really like the way you do videos of this type; like actually being there. I do agree about the kids; parents just don't kniw how to instill discipline these days. The way society is set up thesr days has to take some of the blame as well. I think it's a shame because if they were well-behaved they could've been developing the interest for future hobbies or even careers, right there. They just don't have the attention span or encouragement, like when I was young. For me, that would have been a great afternoon out with my dad. Oh well ...🤨

If you want to see Concorde there's one not far from there at the Fleet Air Arm museum near Yeovil. It's got a lot more aircraft to look at compared to this museum

was airside doing engineering checks few times(ndt work) got to watch engine start up and push back (stood at distance) even feel the jet wash as it went to taxi out :) .shame it couldn't be kept air worthy

i do love ur video's. i have to say you get so much of your comments so so wrong and makes me smile 😊 have to say its not a pusher its a tug it's called. i used too work at Heathrow in the 80s and 90s around concorde. working at Heathrow i saw concord take of land 100s of times and workers would not bat an eyelid at any plane taking of accept Concorde and wed always watch. i remember the staff carpark was right next to the runway and seeing an dark evening take off was most impressive, very very loud with the 4 after burning flames shooting out the back of 4 engines. wow impessive.
No, the thing that says 'Hot' is not an antennae.
It is a drain mast to let the water drain out of the sink plug holes.
It is heated to prevent the water from freezing.
Hostees were banned from pouring red wine down the sinks because it would stain the paintwork.

I actually went on concorde but never went supersonic just a 1 hour flight around Bristol i think and down the coast but it was still fabulous
At brooklands museum They used to have a peace concorde fuselage. Sat outside the Tea shed This was a long time before the museum was opened. when, British aerospawe'll still there. They did very nice cheese Roblox rolls In the vending machines. Used to run in and grab some. On the way to work at Brooklands

Concorde's take off speed was 217 knots or 250 mph. and reached a cruising altitude of 11 miles..

John Hutchinson was one of the greatest Concorde pilot for British Airways.
The 'downward' facing lights on the wing root are motorised and they fold down and point forward.

Heat from the sun is transmitted via the light (radiative) and not by contact of matter (conductive), mirrors basically reflect the heat. Antenna's are electric like one a posh car from the 80's ;)

The reason that the engines are so small on the concord is because they don't have the big fan blades at the front.
They're purely made out of the compressor turbo segment.
It's also why they were so incredibly LOUD!
The large fans at the front of most other jet engines act to provide massive amounts of air to the compressor segment, and, also through the centre of the engine via cooling veins that run around the inside of the blisk, through exit ports and into chambers on the inside of the blade and then out through carefully crafted holes which act to form a film of air over the blade thus stopping the job lot exploding.
The rest of the air pushed back from the front of the engine goes around the outside of the combustion chamber and acts as a form of muffler...as well as further cooling.
And that is why most passenger jets are so relatively quiet compared to their size.

Engines have massive fans these days such as the Trent 1000 as 70 per cent of the power is provided by the bypass fan making them far quieter and much more efficient than the Olympus 593 Concorde burned 25000 litres an hour mega fuel burn. So the bigger engines are the modern ones.

I worked at the museum on security the entrance you say they squandered is not the offices and learning area is there with rooms for teaching school groups about the aviation history of Bristol then the first area of the museum is prewar through to modern day also touching the displays is a big no no as the oils from your hands can cause corrosion so in future please don't touch I find your pitch to be disrespectful and condescending

Exactly how do you get 'sucked through ' a jet engine?
The whole point of the 'compressor blades ' are to squash the air into tiny combustion chambers where the fuel/air mixture burns ferociously and it blown out through the exhaust !
I have seen UA-cam videos which claim to show people going through a jet engine but I always assumed that it was 'their' way of getting around accusations of 'gruesome content' !
(Before this dead people vids were allowed !)
People have survived due to being wedged in the intake (A-6 Intruder on a carrier flight deck. Pilot shut engine down quickly and the guy was pulled out), however no one has survived going into a jet engine, turbojet or turbofan. The passageways are too small for one thing!
Video is good to see but my good you complaining about the kids and the “crap” video tech in the place constantly. Regarding the kids yes they may get bored and scream but they will remember visiting and maybe one day when they are older will peruse a career as a pilot or in aviation industry of some sorts so for them to visit places like this I feel are very important and regarding the video that they are using in the displays to the eye would be fine with the naked eye but advancements of technology newer software and framerates etc will cause issues with recording especially recording led lights or led screens due to the pulsing of the led chips
