I like that you actually spend most of the review actually reviewing the guitar and when you play it's informative of the sounds. Most guitar reviews I find, half the video is just the host showing of his skills.
i guess Im asking randomly but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the account password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Santino Vihaan i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I have this axe. It breaks my heart but mends it at the same time. Eddie put everything he had in these guitars. His passing left me with no excuses. As stated, thanks for such an informative video. It’s spot on.
Probably the best actual “review” of this guitar on UA-cam. I have this EVH in the metallic blue finish and I agree w/you 100% on its attributes and the critiques. I still honestly feel that the EVH guitars get slept on a lot either because of the “in-between” body shape (WG) or in the Striped Series case people just thinking you need to a fanboy to own one. There was a lot of thought and years of development that Ed put into the WG over the years. As a result, the WG models feel “lived in” when you hold and play them. The bridge and board sit back deep into the body and the headstock being compact gives you a feel of greater control over the playing surface. If you stop to examine the various aspects, it’s pretty impressive.
I just got an ice blue metallic one too. It looks like pelham blue to me (A Gibson color). I played a EBMM years ago, and didn't like it, so I never looked at an EVH Wolf again till now. Glad I did.
So, I'd like it if you did a video on the basic differences between the USA and Mexico made guitars. I realize it's a lot, but the EVH website is convoluted at best and you have a fantastic way of breaking down information in to concise and managable terms. Love the channel.
I just ordered one of these, can't wait for it to arrive. Now let me tell u why I bought one, I just returned a Gibson Les Paul Classic because I did not like the sound of the pickups, They would not refund my money because I had it for over 10 days (YEA u read that right, musicians friends has a return policy of 10 days for a full refund for stringed instruments over 2000 dollars.} so they would not refund my money unless I bought another guitar, So I came across this model searching for a new guitar.
It feels more compact because the neck is set deeper into the body. Look at where the narrow waist is on a Tele. It's between the pickups. On this it's on either side of the neck pickup.
Terrific review. Very informative and appreciated you demoing the tone of the pickups w/o doing the chugga-chugga. Nice playing as well and to show off the overall sound.
Great review and demo. Love my EVH WG Special Stealth. I have an EVH WG Standard also and love both of them. Plays like butter. Sounds amazing. I lowered my neck pickup for the reasons you cite here and it improved it a bit. A bit less muddy.
Ah, Honeymoon Suite’s “New Girl Now”! 🔥👍 Great video and very informative. They still make ‘em exactly like this in 2023 and you have convinced me to get one (a lefty version).
I picked one of these up yesterday at guitar center and it felt very nice in my hands it has a fast neck and the pickups just kicked ass I came home and put a bid on one for sale currently on Ebay.
I have had mine for about a month now I just adore it ive played the hell out of it abused the floyd rose with some aggressive dive bombs and refuses to jump tune this is a killer looking killer playing guitar the pickups got a ton of sustain not a real fan of the neck pickup but the bridge humbucker is awesome nice little guitar.
Great video ! I bought two ! This is a brilliant guitar ! Makes you feel you can really play pretty good ! You do not have to fight it ! Buy it ! You’ll be surprised ! Way better then a les paul !
@Craig stealth (black) and striped red with ebony fretboard! Just for fun ( one tuned step down , more easy ) I can even play judgement day on them ! Haha And for the love of god ! Steve vai They’re unbelievable!
He has the switch reversed so that he cant accidentally hit the switch and go to neck pickup. Also when hes done using the neck he just slaps it down and its home. I like it that way it grew on me.
Super awesome review that’s actually about the guitar. Great job mentioning the indent for the dtuna and all other details of this EVH that most other people don’t because they shred too much 😅
I have the left handed version identical to this one. I was fortunate to be able to try it first instead of sight unseen which is common for many lefties as stores don't stock many of those versions that the manufacturers offer. Case in point I was actually trying to find the Striped version in Toronto. I have a Stat and a Les Paul and the Strat is just way more comfortable with the contours for your waist and forearm which the Striped also has since it's a Strat style body. If you look at the Stealth it's flat top and bottom like the LP but it's not as heavy. So like I have to adjust the way I position my left arm with the LP so it's not uncomfortable I also have to with the EVH Special Stealth. With that said, the Stealth sounds amazing. With my little Fender amp with built in over-drive I add a bit more edge from an EVH Overdrive pedal, a touch of reverb, and some MXR analog phase and I'm off.
As a lefty - i have an aversion to black guitars (because for so many years, a black guitar was our only offering) - BUT - that being said, and especially after Eddie's passing, i really want one of these. It looks great - glad you enjoy it Dude. And thank you for the detailed review.
I love that, '' it's all his fault''...Mine's an old Peavey Wolfgang special that's purple. I bought it just so I could play 'purple haze' on it. Best guitar I have.
I agree, the bridge pickup sounds great but I'd have to do something about that neck pickup. Probably a DiMarzio Air Norton, and yeah I'd probably put a Tone Zone in the bridge too lol
I have this guitar and love it, its not for everyone but for me it just feels right, I'm a les paul guy, but ever since I bought this guitar I can't put it down, feels so right and sounds very snappy and punchy, only problem I have with it is the pick up switch is crap, very often when switching between pick ups it with cut out and take a few seconds to come back on, I would have sent it back for another, but didn't want to fool with that, I will just replace the switch with a better one, shouldn't have to do that with a new $1000 guitar but oh well.
What caught my eye about your video is it looks like your standing in my UA-cam studio where I do my guitar tutorials. I have the same artwork. I’m soaking up everything EVH right now and really appreciated your review.
Thank you for such an excellent review. I know I’m late to this conversation, but I have an implied question. My EVH (same model) was mostly unplayed for a few years. I’ve been playing an 80s super Strat with ( I think) whatever DiMarzios were on hand in the mid 80s. I had a decent crunchy sound dialled in on a Vox headphone amp, but when I dug out and connected the EVH its sound was strong but very much cleaner (not much break up). I looked for an “on” switch because the crunch was gone. The dynamics and harmonics popped very nicely, and there seems to be some kind of boost. Obviously I can tweak an amp or buy an EVH amp. I think that’s what it wants. Thanks for listening.
The US made ones are the expensive ones..probably with maple top. Baswood cause cracks in the finish at "stress" places like at the neckpocket tho... because it is a softer wood and "works"a lot.. If I win the lotery I would sure buy the musicman, peavey and fender models..
GREAT review! I am in the market to buy this exact guitar right now so this was a huge help. Would love it too if you can get around to it explaining the difference between the Mex/USA guitars.
Have a Standard (in Zirocote, with caramelized neck) and is a VERY decent guitar for the $$$ - no regrets whatsover. I find the Indonesian-produced guitars I've had have been reliable. Have a new Special on the way (partly due to your video). People make WAYYY too much of an issue with the Mexican vs. USA debate. Having had several Strats and a Charvel from the Ensenada factory, and soon this Special - Fender is and has been making stellar guitars from Mexico. In the end, we're talking about shipping some components 70 miles (about an hour) south of the U.S. border, where all the woodwork is still performed, but all said and done - B.F.D.! Can't wait for the new special to arrive, plus having a nice piece of EVH history to remember his legacy by....
I was like you, never cared for the body shape even back to the original Peavy versions. One interesting thing I saw on Phillip McKnight's channel was how much shorter in length this guitar is compared to a Les Paul. Les Paul shorter scale, but Eddie has a shorter body, so I definitely will have to try one of these. Done a little research on these, the made in Indoensia and China versions have stainless steel vintage (tall narrow) frets like the USA models. EVH decided when they moved production to Mexico that the import versions should not have the same spec materials as USA, because of price difference. This version has nickel jumbo frets, so if you like the jumbo go ahead and grab the current version.
I "Purchased" this EVH Stealth guitar. It's funny, so many people want to use the word "purchase" when they're on TV or the radio trying to sound so official. When you call a friend, do you say "Hey man, I just purchased a cool guitar" Of course not, you say Hey man, i just "bought" a cool guitar. Funny things people say. Good info. I've been thinking about getting an EVH guitar, this Stealth looks great.
I'm pretty sure some of the specials have the same pickups as the standards (aka, they sound the same). The real question is the craftsmanship and quality of the hardwire.
Great vid and information. I played one of these for the first time yesterday and they play like butter. Such great action. I prefer the set bridge model.
I own a Fender EVH and love it for what it is. It's not my only guitar, though. Agree on the front pickup when played through most amps. However, if you play it through a Peavy 6505+ or EVH 5150 III that front pickup is really great for the lead parts where you want a little more thickness in the sound. I think all the EVH stuff works well when you recreate his entire signal chain from Guitar to amp or use a comparable amp modeling solution. As far as where it fits in a guitar collection, It can replace guitars of its lineage, Kramers, Charvel, Jackson, etc... It's a great modern axe that fills the gap for that archetype but doesn't replace your Les Paul or Strat. I've never been one to believe in the one-guitar-to-do-it-all anyway. I think true EVH tone chaser collectors would be more after a vintage Ernie Ball EVH signature as the Holy grail or maybe his Made in the USA Peavey Wolfgang line. Some of those can be had resell for less than a new Fender Wolfgang.
I have this guitar. I love it. But why the toggle switch seems to be "normal" on my model ? It's supposed to be inverted, no ? Down I have the bridge pickup and up I have the neck pickup. Normal. That said, if you push a bit the amp and start playing with the volume knob on the guitar you understand how expressive this guitar can be.
Another thing is how precise the truss rod is along with the screw on the floyd. I was able to set up the action myself with very few moves. never happened before. Quarter or less turn by quarter or less you manage to get exactly where you want.
I love it. Love the understated look and the satin finish. Love ebony boards and SS frets but I haven't got to the fret part yet. I got my first SS feet guitar recently and I'm in love
I have a question for you or someone that owns a Special. When sitting down playing the guitar do you find your right arm gets strained because it doesn’t have a forearm contour?

They are not big for the stealth model. At least not so big that it would be worth paying 3 times more for the US model. USA has pickups produced at the Fender factory in the USA. They are a little bit clearer. The USA has a 3-strip binding on head and body and frets are vintage and made of stainless steel. There are nickel jumbo frets in Mexico.
These are great guitars period not much of a difference between the USA model and the special, just like there's not much of a difference between the special and the Wolfgang standard
A "dive only" Floyd with a D-Tuna is an interesting alternative : much easier to set-up/maintain than a floating Floyd and you can change between standard and drop-d tunings in a breeze.
@@bobsiburton861 You're welcome. I have a guitar with that setup and I am very satisfied with it. And I would have never bought a guitar with a floating Floyd!
Scott Yecora I have a floating floyd rose and can switch to drop D in an instant too (tone vise drop d tuner). I have a stabilizer so it acts like a hard tail but i can still dive up/down. I have a locking nut and locking tuner so simple string changes. Id never switch to a hard tail floyd rose.

The key to the smaller feel of the EVH wolfies is the fact that the bridge is farther toward the tail of the body.
Great video
Which would mean the body is smaller or else the scale length would be off.

The guitar order is 1991 EVH Ernie Ball Musicman, 1997/98 Peavey Wolfgang then lastly the EVH Wolfgang in 2007.
You can also put a Alnico 3 magnet in the neck up , as the USA 's did later for better sound from the neck. :-)

In terms of sound, do you feel there are any differences between The Stealth and the $500 Wolfgang Standard model?
I'm pretty sure some of the specials have the same pickups as the standards (aka, they sound the same). The real question is the craftsmanship and quality of the hardwire.
All pickups are the exact same specs in all models
Great vid and information. I played one of these for the first time yesterday and they play like butter. Such great action. I prefer the set bridge model.
Body wears out pretty easy where your fingers are
when you pick. Because of the Satin finish.

Yep
new girl now solo at the end very nice sir
I love it. Love the understated look and the satin finish. Love ebony boards and SS frets but I haven't got to the fret part yet. I got my first SS feet guitar recently and I'm in love
Wade Wilson this model does not have SS frets.
The USA models are limited as far as finishes are concerned and you have to settle for the block inlays on the non stealth models
I have a question for you or someone that owns a Special. When sitting down playing the guitar do you find your right arm gets strained because it doesn’t have a forearm contour?
Not at all. Its one of the most comfortable guitars I've tried.
ADDICTED TO GEAR. Thanks for replying. How about the access to the higher frets? I’m used to the Charvels with 24 frets.

Lovely guitar. It's a shame about the price.
hows the finish holding up?
You would have to ask the guy I sold it to a few years ago!
Is this the $1000 stealth or the $3000 stealth?
$1000 one.
Price ?
I want to get one. How do I know which one? Mexico made? USA made? Japan? I don’t want China.
"Special" - Mexican built. "USA" - Fender factory U.S. They haven't made these in China for a while. "Standard" - Indonesia, for the most part.
Is this guitar suitable for players with smaller hands ?
Yes, in fact I would say it would be prefect for that.
Cool guitar! Unfortunately I won’t be guitar shopping again for at least a year.
Sorry to hear that

They are not big for the stealth model. At least not so big that it would be worth paying 3 times more for the US model. USA has pickups produced at the Fender factory in the USA. They are a little bit clearer. The USA has a 3-strip binding on head and body and frets are vintage and made of stainless steel. There are nickel jumbo frets in Mexico.
L for Love!!! Jk cool review
That matte finish isn't going to hold up I see it's already shiny where the high E string is
nice but it`s all in the fingers not the pickup
Shouldn't it be a bass if its name is Wolfgang ?
Is it just me or is the guitar body really small?

Scott Yecora I have a floating floyd rose and can switch to drop D in an instant too (tone vise drop d tuner). I have a stabilizer so it acts like a hard tail but i can still dive up/down. I have a locking nut and locking tuner so simple string changes. Id never switch to a hard tail floyd rose.
When I was running with the devil I asked what he thought of Eddie. he said, and I quote "Edward Van Halen is one of God's Crowning Achievements! 🤘 "
Play Runnin with the Devil properly plz :)
ZblockWoW maybe you can show me how it’s done? ;)
