In this video, I have shared my experiences of Rameswaram & Dhanushkodi. During my visit to Rameswaram, I went to the villagesof Rameswaram & spent some time with local fisherman & villagers.
Rameswaram, (also spelt as Ramesvaram, Rameshwaram) is a town and a second grade municipality in the Ramanathapuram district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located on Pamban Island separated from mainland India by the Pamban channel and is about 40 kilometres from Mannar Island, Sri Lanka. It is situated in the Gulf of Mannar, at the very tip of the Indian peninsula. Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, is connected to mainland India by the Pamban Bridge. Rameswaram is the terminus of the railway line from Chennai and Madurai. Together with Varanasi, it is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.

Same! I went there by cycle ( a very good and solid Atlas, price 300 Rrps, with a big round silver light in front) in 1980-81! At that time, no road, no vehicules, no shops, nothing! I slept in a small palm hut which was a tiny chapel on the left side . Not a single soul, nothing but me, the sand, the ocean, few sea birds...Next morning, with 2 dry biscuts in stomach I went up to the very end of the sand , no people, I was alone! with the Great Infinity ahead! My cycle trip started from Kolkata following the coast up to this point, 6 months, sleeping outside when necessary!

Dude, it was a tsunami like huge waves wiped out Dhanushkodi leaving only 4ppl to survive.. took away the town due to a volcanic activity inside the ocean.
