Amazing SouthIndia Rameshwaram Journey
Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island of the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is situated to the South-East of Pamban and is about 18 miles west of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The town was destroyed during the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone and remains uninhabited in the aftermath.
Adam's Bridge, also known as Rama's Bridge or Rama Setu, is a chain of limestone shoals, between Pamban Island, also known as Rameswaram Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, India, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka.
Rameswaram is a town on Pamban Island, in the southeast Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s known for Ramanathaswamy Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site with ornate corridors, huge sculpted pillars and sacred water tanks. Devotees bathe in the waters of Agni Theertham, off the beach east of the temple. Gandamadana Parvatham is a hill with island views. A chakra (wheel) here is said to bear an imprint of Lord Rama’s feet.

Last year we visited Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi. We stayed in a hotel close to Kalam Sir house. It was wonderful visiting the house which is converted in to a memorial. Dhanushkodi feels surreal with pure blue sea all around.

Dhanushkodi is a beautiful place where you can see vast sea. The place was destroyed by a flood in 1964. Heard a train got washed away.
For people who want to visit this place, reach Rameshwaram and from there you get many vehicles that can take you to dhanushkodi.
Poojas are also done here. At noon times you can see the top of the Shiva temple that got submerged in the flood.
As Rameshwaram is one of the 7 holy places to visit , it is visited by a lot of North Indians. You have NI style hotels, eateries and even most vendors are fluent in Hindi.
Do enjoy this place.
On the way you get to see 2 seas on either side of the road. One calm and the other roaring. Enjoy.

I still remember it very well, as if I had visited it yesterday.....
I was there in Mid December 2019. Rameshwaram Dhanushkodi.... I can't describe the holy feeling I had when I visited this Places,, the feeling of Ram setu was so divine, though we couldn't get a chance to see ram setu. I miss it so much and had promised myself that I will visit again this place once more in my lifetime along with my future partner.......
While reaching dhanushkodi u get to see Vibhishan Mandir too on the left side of the road.
Very good to see Dhanuskoti the last ending point in our Map, thankful to see & enjoy the spot where our late Hon'ble Kalam saab born in Rameswaram, thank God bless u all!

As a fisherman from Ceylon we love all the seas . We use to visit Katchatheevu festival freely without any restriction. From Madaras Egmore railway station BoatMail train runs upto Thanuskodi and have to board a ferry Boat to Colombo (Talaimannar) .
As my grandfather is from Nuveraliya he use to enjoy the memories of Venice of South India Thanuskodi. Mandabam Camp was the busiest station. At that time only the people of both the countries lived happily.

British treated Andaman and Lakshadweep as part of India where as the distance between bottom south Thanuskodi and Thalaimannar.is only 22 Km.

Actually Danushkodi is also part of Ram Seth. Many people/historians do not recognize/realise it. People look for the Ram Sethu that is destroyed and not what is left behind and so glaringly visible to the naked eye. The whole strip is man made and not natural. The only purpose of the land strip is to connect with SriLanka (of course the tar road was laid by the govt recently). This land was not built by any govt (maybe reinforced but not entirely built from scratch) but by Ram as it is written in great detail of its construction in history which British consider myth. You are lucky to reach and see parts of India which even 1% of Indians have not seen. Great work bro!

I can see sea waves only at one side of the road....so strange....but wonderful
because winds generally blow in one direction..so here its evident wind is blowing across the road, so on the other side its taking the waves towards the sea n not back towards the road.
One side is Indian ocean and other side is bay of Bengal. Indian ocean is called as male sea it is vigorous and bay of Bengal is female sea it is calm. They both confluence hear in dhanuskodi. There is a belief also that all Indian rivers from ganga to Kaveri join and enter Indian ocean here. It is a sacred place for all. The ganga yatra will only end by pouring ganga water here. Lot of mythical stories are attached to this place.
