As you know I have a P5Q motherboard and that that Marvell BIOS adapter can be disabled. From your video it looks like you're unable to enter motherboard BIOS setup due to this screen, but this Marvell controller is like an add-in adapter card. So this Marvell BIOS loads *after* the PC POSTs, which means you can enter the motherboards BIOS before that loads in. So you just need to disable it. When you see the Blue P5Q screen appear, or you hear the beep after it POSTs, repeatedly hit DEL key and it should enter bios. Once you're in BIOS Go under ADVANCED - Onboard Devices Configuration - Marvell IDE - set to DISABLE and you should be gold. While writing this message, i enabled the Marvell controller (actually i changed to default BIOS settings on my P5Q PC, and windows 10 had a SHIT FIT seeing this new device and it rebooted twice, and now it wants to repair it self. WTF? Best bet turn off that useless controller.
+HUGSaLOT Valkyrie I spam del, press it once, doesnt matter it just gets stuck on the marvell crap every single time.... that's the problem I am having :(. If I could only get into the bios then I know it will work, but it just doesn't.
Know this is old but. If its not bent pins or bad bios chip. Often you can reflux and recook the motherboard to get it working again. You can modify a electric radiator to recook electronics or if you have a tabletop oven big enough for motherboards and other circuit boards that will work as well. As long as it hold constant temperature and doesn't go over temp.
a low cmos battery can do stuff like that. brake cleaner is some strong stuff. id think it would eat the coating on the board. ive fixed water damaged laptops by dipping a toothbrush in alcohol and scrubbing all the circuitry and legs for connectors. a small bit of corrosion or mineral deposits can cause a short that just getting it wet with brake cleaner wont remove. if it was something worth fixing youd inspect every square inch of the board with a magnifying glass
hi brian i like ur videos, I repair pcs for a living. here is trick im sure u havent tried. mix alcohol with flux then use a syringe to inject between smd chip then use a heat gun to reconnect the joints. try it out mate im sure u wont be dissapointed with results if u have done it correctly
Brian, you can try this: check the area around the Marvell controller on the board for corrosion or damage. You may need to reflow the solder joints or run a jumper wire in case of board damage. :P
Nobody's gonna say it? Some have mentioned a bent cpu socket pin and it DOES look like that is a possibility. But usually if a motherboard isn't posting it is usually the motherboard or power supply. Try a different power supply even if a power supply tester says it's good. If motherboard bad - replace it's capacitors, it's easy enough if you can desolder and solder without tearing up the pads or overheating everything. You should have a peizo speaker on the motherboard to make with the beep codes. They sell them cheap cheap.
That's so funny, I am watching your videos and not realizing you are in Japan until this video. I am living here in Oami right next to Togane. In fact I have gone to the Wonder RX that is in your video. :) What a small world!!!! Considering this is a tech video I never suspected you would be so close, and making the tech world even smaller. Another Gaijin!!!! woohoo I love tech and pretty much a tech geek myself, I really love the surfing and laid back lifestyle here. Welcome to Japan from another gaijin!
That is too bad. If you are ever back and want to hit some waves hit me up, not saying that the surf down under is bad or anything. Have a good trip and hope you have an opportunity to come back. I have a friend who is a kiwi :), and you probably would get along...or not. Anyway hope you have a chance to come back.
usually I try hitting reboot instead of shutting down when a board won't post. Then turn off and unplug the machine and take out the cmos battery for like a min or so and put it back in and turn it on and usually majority of the times it posts and boots.
Interesting video, ancient pc parts are fun. After owning them for awhile, they will slowly or quickly remind one to pursuit or stay with the newer tech. Background music at 9:10?
good video, thanks so much for doing this! I bought an old LGA 1366 Supermicro for $42,00 US, installed a Xeon 6 core 5660, worked well but the Northbridge Chip was hard to cool, and kept getting IO Hub temps of up to !05 to 107C, However I re routed cabling (after watching another tech vid) and now the board will not post, did everything, but no post. Does a no post mean the CPU is dead and the motherboard? I wasted $50 bucks (the Xeon was like $ 9 US -- possibly a bad cpu? ) but not a lot of money to lose since I am learning. Finding old but doable boards and multi cores for next to nothing is a fun hobby
Have you seen eeprom programmers, they allow you reprogram the bios directly to the bios chip. Sometimes you cant flash it from a usb if the bios is corrupt, or you could replace the bios chip altogether. bet you haven't tried that.
I shit myself when that dell had a 6800 cuz I'm using one to watch this video, it's a pretty good graphics card for retro builds. I have a pentium D 945 and 2 gb of ddr2 and a bout almost two terabytes of storage over 4 drives. I'm running dual monitors too!
+Thomas L lool man i got one of those right next to me dumped in the dust since i got an i5 with HD 7670M laptop which heat after 6 hours of gameplay god damn i need a desktop :'(
What are some tips for using break cleaner for cleaning computer parts? Is it really just as easy as dousing it, carefully wiping it down, and letting it dry? Getting it in sensitive areas like cpu pins/ethernet ports/pcislots is giving me the heebiejeebies just thinking about it, but I'm very intrigued.
04:53 Holy shit that's a Chieftech Bravo mid tower (lbx-01-something for the color). I have the black one and all I can say is that they are very good and sturdy for a 2005 case
u need to change boot sequence at BIOS because it try to boot from network card remove CMOS battery for 30 min and go to BIOS settings and change to boot from Hard drive or CD ROM first I am sure that will solve yr problem
Oh, man, bummer. But, as you said, the problem has to be at hardware level. Soldering a new Marvell chip could work, but, way too much work for such an old board. Nice video!! I would love to see you doing more shopping. I love such content! BTW, Was that a Phillips Fidelio X2 at 9:19?
+Tech YES City Oh, I should have guessed, welp, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the info, by the way. Should come handy when I get those cans. My current sound card doesn't have a good headphone amp (if at all) (Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD)
in our country, if the board shows power and display you can pretty much fix it, this guy says he tried everything but didnt mention anything about flashing the bios
4:46 OMG This is officially the only other time in my life that I've seen an XPS gen 4. I found one of those at the landfill around 4 years ago and I can't find anything about it anywhere on the web. I'ts in great shape so Im holding on to it as a collectible I suppose haha... Seriously badass machine for its time though.
have u tried baking it at around 90 degree for around 45-60 min? sometimes u have loose welding connections and fix it like that! even my graphics card is working again if i do this for around 1 week :D
I know you said you didn't want suggestions but just in case you didn't think of this I thought what the heck...did you try removing the cmos battery and reinstalling it or a new one...worth a try
Hey guys, What was the liquid spray he used to clean it? Also what kind of wipes was he using? Im planning to rebuild an old dusty pc of mine for fun and i would like to know!
Did you check the clear bios jumper? I know that usually you cant boot if its on but maybe you have 1 that can but cant move on past it. Usually if a cap is bad its dead and wont even turn on.
If you're selling (or buying) computer components, do it on Ebay, and list your auctions on this buy/sell facebook group. facebook.com/groups/PartsForRepair
Is that a Intel NH82801 I/O controller you called southbridge? Perhaps it is the issue! Cheap and Easy fix, changed one on my Intel Apple Mac Mini for $20 it would not communicate between the cd and hd, but those caps would have to be changed after setting the chip at 420 deg F in an oven for at least 20 minutes, just the same temp to remove it! About my mac, since it is a 2008 they claimed it would not recognize the full 4gb of memory but mine does and is 64 bit!
Can you test more budget mechanical keyboards. I want one but i am on a budget of 60-70 euros. I don't care if they have cherry switches but i want something with good build quality. Thanks.
I liked your videos.. and I didnt sub until you said that about hexen. That game kicked so much ass. I learned years later you could b-hop in that game lol

Danny Gee I have a P5Q and it had compatibility issues with the ram and cpu I put into it so I got constant blue screens and failed boots. I updated the bios to the latest version and now it works fine.
Did you try turning it off and on again?
Lala Loepsie Did you try to blow on it?
When you reply to a comment one year ago
Society's Trash But I was just continuing the joke
Ha, ha ha :)
Resurrecting old computers seems to be like restoring old cars !
I truly adore these shop hunting sessions :D keep em coming
Brian: Anyone wants an xp key.
XP key: blown out.
5:18 AM, no sleep, greetings from México :D
I'm 5:37 AM no sleep
from the USA
Good to see a video about a M/B that couldn't be fixed.
LOL that scot hall cue in at 9:47 was awesome

+HUGSaLOT Valkyrie this makes sense to me. follow this guide!
+HUGSaLOT Valkyrie I spam del, press it once, doesnt matter it just gets stuck on the marvell crap every single time.... that's the problem I am having :(. If I could only get into the bios then I know it will work, but it just doesn't.
+Tech YES City Damn there's gotta be a way to reset the bios. However by default that Marvell controller is enabled. Oh well trash it,.
i would try this method, the motherboard dons't work so i don't think you will lose soomething
Know this is old but. If its not bent pins or bad bios chip. Often you can reflux and recook the motherboard to get it working again. THUMBS UP FOR THE FINAL FIGHT MUSIC. takes me right back... snif
Man I wish I had places like this near me. Sounds like a great way to spend a day.
Love the video and believe it or not the Tech NO city was much more satisfying. Goes to show that some technology just cannot be saved.

I did not know that you can use break fluid to clean motherboards. You learn something every day'
that crazy russian hacker impression was spot on!
New intro is awesome!
You don't try everything!
1 re-flash bios
2 change capacitor on the motherboard
3 FLASH THAT DAMN BIOS
FLASH THAT BIOSS
maybe he need to change the capacitors
Great vid! Your effort should still please the electronic gods.
I jammed a screwdriver into the CPU pins of a dead LGA775 board. Very satisfying.
+EMPiiRE™ I did that to my lga 1150 board. and my 4770k
Those prices at the store, $250 for a 660 ti? LOL... no wonder it's called Hard Off and not hard on

Also double check AHCI is enabled. Main - Storage Configuration - Configure SATA as - AHCI
+HUGSaLOT Valkyrie I can't get into the BIOS lol.
Have you tried re-flashing the bios at all?
best channel of pc
I picked up a Phenom 2 x6 at Janpara on the cheap. The one in Shinjuku is awesome.
Bryan, I've got to say that the frustration was real, lol.
+zSWiFTz Yeah I think the bios is corrupt, no saving that, unless I want to waste x amount of time.
Interesting video, ancient pc parts are fun. After owning them for awhile, they will slowly or quickly remind one to pursuit or stay with the newer tech. Background music at 9:10?
nice music. remind me of old games from 90's :D
That mobo actually looks pretty good with the heatsinks back on it.
Daragh Haddon it was a pretty high end board in 2008(good for overclocking too, nothing too serious though)
The fps russia reference was halarious.
Awesome junk store! I hope i had one near me.
@2 mins looking at the cpu socket, it looks as though there are a couple of pins out of alignment. May be worth a look.
Uhi new intro? Sounds nice :)
nearly 100k boyyyyyz
That cooler is huge!
+Tech Yes City love these vlogs man. Keep up the great work. It should be Saturday night for you, what's your plans?
+zSWiFTz Watch some movies and chill.
+Tech YES City ahh Netflix and chill? 🤓
+zSWiFTz Nah just relax kind of chill lol
Tech YES City I get it, have a good week man :D

Brian... Linus Tech Tips commands you to put that motherboard in an oven ! Just do it ^^'
Man you are the king
Yeahh mobo can be fix,not the best option but yeah can be fix cool vid buddy
10:32 It looks like ASUS P5 series Motherboard. If it stays on Marvell Adapter thing, it means there is something wrong with PATA controller FYI

0:42 shots fired
Did you guys have Mr Blobby/Live and Kicking in Oz haha? That brings me back to my childhood, along with Super Ted.
I am interesting in knowing what type of thermal compound you use and also what thermal pads are those? And which are better.
Awesome video!

1:14 gamer from mars anyone ?
Desoldering the lan chip may fix the problem, or bios flash on usb programmer.
You're very lucky to have stores like that to hit up...
+MerolaC Fidelio X1s, just trying to get an adapter for the O2 so I can enjoy some spacious x1 heaven.
Oh boy. I'm buying one of those soon.
Sorry for my ignorance, but, what is an "O2"?
Thank you Bryan!
o2 amplifier, great amp coupled mine with a modi, frankenstein combo is the best!
+Tech YES City Oh, I should have guessed, welp, I'm an idiot.
Thanks for the info, by the way. Should come handy when I get those cans. My current sound card doesn't have a good headphone amp (if at all) (Sound Blaster X-FI Titanium HD)
I was thinking of Final Fight 2 music before and I hear it in your video, lol
Dat Crazy Russian Hacker reference. xD
Always thought you were in Melbs or Sydney. Exposing my newness.

I wish there was shops like this in maine!!!!
1 move the ram to the 2 slots and check. 2 try to update the bios
5:30 XP? that clearly says Server Standard 2003 lol... (but I'll gladly write it down :D)
Funny, the heat sinks look like the Sidney Opera House.
5:34 AND THE SERIAL NUMBER IS hahahahaha joking
have u tried baking it at around 90 degree for around 45-60 min?

5:30 I want that silver/aluminum case!
I know you said you didn't want suggestions but just in case you didn't think of this I thought what the heck...did you try removing the cmos battery and reinstalling it or a new one...worth a try
+percaine Yeah already tried that.
Tech yes city: *wipes with towel*
Motherboard: "Oh yes harder daddy 😫😜"
Tech yes city "What"
Motherboard: "What"
3rd comment lol - that outro is so incredibly good on the ears
Just for the lols try to put it on water for 12Hrs then in isopropyl alcohol for another 12hrs, then dry it and test it :)

Can you do more vlog like this in japan?
He lives there.
My blobby - holy shit, the nostalgia
Hi, I like your videos... can you tell me whats the spry that you use for clean? cheers from Argentina
Bryan, it will work. Have you tried _____ ___ ______ __ ____ _____ __ _________?
Had P5Q-E die the same way. most frustrating MB trying to fix. I just gave up because it was old.
@ 5:28 is the case I currently use.. The tubes down the sides of the front light blue.
I used the have the same case too :D
Did yours have a temperature gauge and rgb light in the front header?
Inceptual Games Mine has the temp. displayed with liquid crystal on the front panel. But I do not have an rgb light.
That Japan voice in the back + music is making me go watch anime
You live in Japan? I totally judged you by the cover and thought you lived in AUS because of the accent. xD
+Jonathan Bright well Austrailia is very close to Japan
+James Walter a I think he moved, because his channel says aus but that looked Japanese as all hell
James Walter thousands kilometres away actually.. so not that close
And the "high" price tags aswell
I meant relative to the US, should have included that.
If you're selling (or buying) computer components, do it on Ebay, and list your auctions on this buy/sell facebook group. facebook.com/groups/PartsForRepair

LuxorVan it’s an ich10r
What do you use to clean up your motherborads? Please let me know.
It looks like you have a bent pin on the processor socket from the shot at 1:36.
solder in a new bios chip BOOOM!
Can you test more budget mechanical keyboards. I want one but i am on a budget of 60-70 euros. I don't care if they have cherry switches but i want something with good build quality. Thanks.
2:00 wants to fix the board ... starts hittin the damn thing
Have you tried resetting the BIOS?
Set BIOS?
lol Tech NO City , great video
I liked your videos.. and I didnt sub until you said that about hexen. That game kicked so much ass. I learned years later you could b-hop in that game lol
