Over the past year I've realized that I keep falling into the same traps in all of my drum fills. Then they all become the same and they sound boring and I end up just getting really frustrated! So thats why I made this lesson (and an entire lesson course) showing you a bunch of different concepts to help you approach your drum fills in a whole new way! I've really enjoyed exploring these concepts and I hope that you enjoy them as well!

I'm not religious but man your fills are righteous.
+Chase Robins haha thank you!
good vid!!!
@@DrumBeatsOnline How do i get that killer sound out of my snare???? One of my favorite videos, and mainly because i love your snare sound!!!!!! And even though I've been playing for 4 decades!! Lol,I love and learn so many different fills from your videos!! KEEP ON ROCKING🤘🤙🤘🤙🤘🤙🤘🤙
Yes u are
One of the first videos I've seen about improving fills that has very applicable advice. Most videos with suggestions are just really weird or have specific fills to try out, but this one has very interesting ideas that have great applications. Thanks for posting this!
+Carlos Murillo I'm so glad you think so Carlos! Glad I could help you out!
I have to agree, actual concepts for fills instead of "just play this". Also actually calling a rudiment for what it is makes those of is in the music education field all kinds of happy.
that snare deserved it's own video. holy crap
Gawd that snare needs a funeral
I absolutely love your snare!!!! How can i get that sound!!! TOO AWSOME!!!
what snare head did he use?
@@mr.crowley7646 it is just a very low tuning of the batter head in my opinion.
I love how he gives theory, gives us confidence that our body will come up with something and then gives us something concrete to use. Genius teaching technique!
Tip number one: Have that stack.
+Mara Contrary Haha just put 2 crappy cymbals together and you should be in good shape!
Good point there.
Drum Beats Online that's what i did! haha
I've been playing for over 40 years and its easy to get stuck in ruts all the time. These are really great tips. You taught an old dog some new tricks. Thank you.
I totally agree, ruts are super common. I'm so glad this was able to help!
Great lesson! Being creative is the most difficult part for me, especially because I'm only six months into drumming. I'm on my way to the rehearsal room, gonna try these things out right away, thanks!
i really liked your video, but what I really LOVED was that tasty sounding snare, sounds HUGE!!
Fil Solano tuned low, open room. sounds like it might be brass too but I'm not sure
Syncopation is the key to a good fill imo.
Agree..he is a great teacher.. he help me a lot.. thanks Gabe for sharing your gift..
A brilliant example how less is more, Well done and great advise.
thank you for this dude some ppl that I try and watch they make it a little more difficult to learn from
Very helpful thankyou..so nice fills
real good advice hands down
and good communication skills
one of the best examples of tip 3 is the 3rd fill of the original Hendrix (Mitch Mitchell) Little Wing, lounching the guitar solo!!! the best silence i know!

Simpler is greater!
THANKS!!!
I really love your UA-cam video I am learning a lot from it
From some less is indeed more... very nicely done.
I have watched a lot of your video's,but as a self thought Drummer of 20 years and being in a family of drummers, my Da, Brother, myself and now my 12 year-old son has me giving him lessons in the garage and has seemed to come almost naturally. It's only now that I am learning to read sheet stuff, but I did spend years on my rudiments that has stood to me. So my point is that when I was younger I got a Pearl world series, after a lot of giging and saving. The 20"bass, 8",10",12" rack toms and 14" floor, and beautiful 12"piccalo,and when you talk about taking things away that is just what I did. I now use, bass,12"rack,snare and floor, and that made me a better drummer,I think. Nice video
U r the best drummer
Great! Thanks!
Thank u so much bro.. it is a big help to us

Hi Gabe, I hope you could do a video on how to do a smooth ride/crash cymbal roll with the different sticks. I find this quite intimidating so I don't use it as much because my sticking might make some irregular sounds or breaking. Thank you.

+Drum Beats Online Same! I was wondering if you are ever gonna make a tutorial on how to fatten your snare drum sound? I hate that reverby snarish sound. (I don't really know how to explian it but I hope you know what I mean)
I just posted a video on a snare tuning trick that can really help get ride of overtones on snare drums!
+Drum Beats Online I saw the video thank you but I can't tune it that way since I have only 6 screws on my snare. Does taping duck tape on the drum work? (I'm sorry for bothering you)
