Is it possible you've beaten the 'bad winner' curse with this one? Lovely colours, the ironstone has a great warm contrast with the cold fire of the opal. Wonderful.
Beautiful stone! I love your choice of keeping the matrix. So many beautiful stones are far removed from what where the original pieces. Beside not every beautiful thing has to be changed to remain a beauty! Great video! This one was my favorite😍😍
If the face is large enough it is always worth removing annd the host stone in the face but in this case it was getting pretty tiny so went for the eye look.
Good pick on the first stone ;) I'm surprised you went with a metal container or pan, I'd be concerned about dropping an opal on it and having it crack. You have convinced me to get some Boulder finally! Won a super cheap parcel from eBay and am very pleased with how it looks! Cheers Roy, It has turned out beautifully!!
With the water its very unlikely that the opal will slam straight into metal so I'm not too worried about it. Good luck on the boulder opal journey. Its good fun.
I do believe that you are looking at petrified wood! You can see that the "ironstone" does NOT have any of the characteristic divots or patterns of color change. There are clear rings along the side, and wood grain lines. The wood became hardened by, most likely, silica, which also created the spheres in the center, resulting in opal! I have a lot of knowledge about gemology--not only the different names of stones, but their physical and chemical makeup, how they form, the different host minerals that make up a gemstone--but fossilization as well. By the way, my state gem happens to be petrified wood! Shout out to Washington, the most beautiful state in the nation! You have something quite unique here. Increase that price accordingly. Your plan of action is perfect, as well! Love your channel! I learn so much from you, and I hope that the information I give helps you as well. Keep going, bro! You're a legend!
Could well be. Its always hard to tell with such a small piece. My fave video on the topic is this one (ua-cam.com/video/QvrcJdTlRQ4/v-deo.html) which you might also find interesting. It is quite common to find petrified wood in the same area so it happens quite a bit.
Great job Roy, lovely stone, Nick has some awesome stuff. At one point can you do a video on Boulder a beginner would get, I see people carving lovely deep opal, but the reality is thin uneven stones are what most start out with. Thanks for sharing
Outstanding the choice i made won the day. Excellent results. Looking foward to see how you do the treatment on the other pieces. I"ve been checking out Phil at Opal Mills with his method. Pretty cool. Thanks very much

I wasn’t always a fan of Boulder. You’ve changed my mind! Love this! It’ll make a beautiful ring.
I do hope so. I normally don't like rings but this one is destined for.

I love the pairing of the dark ironstone with dark blue opal. Really works well together.
That turned out wonderfully! Absolutely love it. The banding on that ironstone is really pretty, too.
Glad the ironstone turned out to not be the sandy stuff.
Oh goody! I loved this one best! [settles in with a snack and some tea]
Many choose this one and it turned out quite nice.
Great video as always boss! Looking forward to the next one already!!!
Will probably be boulder. To many good pieces not to jump straight on the next.
@@RoysRocks I just ordered some bolder opal ...my first try at it...wish me luck...I will keep watching you to learn what I can of course 😉

Wow! Thankyou for showing us this little gem. I've had one very similar and did exactly what you had done. Wonderful. 🤗
Great minds think alike 🙂👍
Beautiful stone Roy. I'd love to see that piece bezeled in a silver ring in the future. Keep up the good job mate. Love from Sweden.
Thanks man. This will be set one day for sure. Just finding it hard to get into the jewellery making game at the moment.
Wow what a beautiful gem!!!
Nick Hoops rarely disappoints.
Hey that's amazing Roy and the colors seem to have depth it's brilliant 🤠
Its got a real nice blue in black intensity to it which I always love.
Very nice, that bright blue is awesome 🤘
I do love a dark blue on ironstone.
Good pick on the first stone ;)

Hey a vote I chose that the stone turned out, neat. Ty for the video Roy.
Yeah the winner curse didn't get us this time.

Yeah im looking forward to setting it.

Most of my boulder pieces are quite low budget and beginner like this one. I could do a few more gamble style pieces though.
@@RoysRocks I should send you some of mine, none Nick Hoops, they are tough to cut, almost painted lady, no real depth of colour
Like a painted lady boulder opal? I think i have some similar. I'll dig around and show you what I do with it. Definitely a different strategy.
That looks nice...you know what works well for beveling that bottom edge when the time comes to set it in a mount...diamond files 😀😉😜😄
Haha. I just get a coarse sintered on to it and it's done in seconds.
It’s gorgeous
Thanks. Helps to get great stuff from Nick Hoops to work with.
Great video, lovely colour be cool to see you do the bezel setting
I'll probably be needing the help of the opal mills for the setting part.
@@RoysRocks give it a go its great fun not too tricky

Oh yeah almost forgot about those bits. I should get them shaped ready for treatment.
Nice job on the plastic tray. I fed mine, my opal chip! Never put an opal in the bowl that you feed your dog from.... 🤔🤣
Yeah that'll never happen here... I hope.
Güzel çalısma olmuş dostum..🤗
Thank you my friend.
Ohhh so pretty! I like th pattern on the sides..shame.to cover that up
Yeah it is a bit sad. Some ironstone has beautiful patterns and is definitely underrated. Claw setting could avoid that but that looks much harder.
Chirp!!! Better late than never. ;)
Yeah this one had a delay.

This was a slightly tamer dingo but still a savage beast to an innocent plastic tub.
You don’t change your water on every nova stage ?
Nah typically not. Haven't had any cross contamination problems with them yet. It's what makes them beat diamond paste for me.
Can you get me some of the blacklighters secret polish..... Pretty please.
I should get in touch with him and see if I can stockpile the stuff. Could break it up for viewers.
@@RoysRocks if you get some I would love some, I got some cerium oxide off eBay and it just isn't cutting the mustard. Lol
@@tennillelogan7059 Just not getting the mirror finish you are after?
@@RoysRocks nope, it does come up all that shiny.
@@tennillelogan7059 Ah thats disappointing. We will have to fix that.
I always keep my stones submerged, just because I hate wearing masks
I always wear my mask anyway. To young for health issues.
